Chat Transcript

Three weeks are in the books and still plenty of Fantasy talent available on most waiver wires.

Senior Fantasy Writer Jamey Eisenberg will help you put in the right waiver claims when he stops by to answer your questions on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. ET.

Feel free to submit a question now or stop by on Tuesday afternoon!

09/29 Chat with Jamey Eisenberg
(09/29 15:00 PM) Hey guys, let's get started. There are a lot of injured running backs this week, so check out Playing the Waiver Wire this week for a breakdown of who to add. OK, here we go, and remember the last 10 minutes will be rapid fire style.
(09/29 15:00 PM) Richard, Dallas, TX - Hello Jamey, I'm thinking about possibly dropping Laveranues Coles for Andre Caldwell, 14 team, non ppr league. Should I be patient and ride out Coles or make the move? My other WRs are Andre Johnson, Megatron, Sims-Walker and Stuckey. Thanks.
(09/29 15:02 PM) It's not a bad idea to cut Coles at this point, but I'm not sure about adding Caldwell just yet. You might to look for help at another position since you're pretty set at WR with Johnson, Megatron and Sims-Walker for now.
(09/29 15:02 PM) Richard, Oxnard, CA - Hi Jamey. 10 team, 1/2 pt ppr league. With L.Robinson injured, looking at replacing him. Who should I replace him with - Breaston, Garcon, Caldwell, Bess or Nate Washington. My other WRs are Megatron, R.White, Steve Smith (NY) and Hester. Gracias.
(09/29 15:03 PM) I would rank them in this order: Breaston, Garcon, Bess, Washington, Caldwell in a PPR. If you haven't heard, Robinson is likely out for the season.
(09/29 15:03 PM) James, dallas - Should i make this trade? I give Calvin Johnson and Michael Turner for Larry Fitz and Chris Johnson..Oh and it's a ppr league
(09/29 15:03 PM) That's a good trade for you. Fitzgerald will catch more passes than Calvin Johnson, and so will Chris Johnson over Turner. In a PPR, this is a good move.
(09/29 15:04 PM) ugaian, atlanta, ga - would you drop mendenhall for either of these players (coffee, ricky williams, fred taylor) would you drop derrick mason or lee evans for garcon(colts)
(09/29 15:04 PM) I would definitely drop Mendenhall for Coffee right now with Gore out three weeks, and even Williams is better than Mendenhall as well. I would hold onto Mason because he's more consistent than Evans and Garcon for the rest of the year.
(09/29 15:05 PM) Andrew, Moncton, NB - Canada - Hi Jamie... looking at week 4 who would you start as TE Olsen or Keller? Also I have Ray Rice replacing Frank Gore, I'm trying to grab Coffee off of waivers but if I cant would it be worth grabbing Knowshon Moreno and dropping Johnny Knox? PS. You guys at CBS have a great Fantasy team. Thanks, Andrew
(09/29 15:05 PM) Thanks for the kind words. I would go with Olsen this week since the Lions struggle with tight ends. I would also grab Moreno over Coffee, but either would be great. I can't believe Moreno is available.
(09/29 15:06 PM) Clint, LA, CA - Should I trade James Davis while people think he'll have value and what about Cadillac? Im kicking around the idea of those two and S. Holmes for E. Royal and S Jax
(09/29 15:07 PM) I think that's a fair trade to give up Davis, Cadillac and Holmes for Royal and Jackson. Jackson is obviously the best value in the deal, and if Royal can turn things around, he'll be a notch below Holmes. Davis could obviously improve if Jamal Lewis remains out, but with Harrison there, Davis might not reach his full value until next year.
(09/29 15:08 PM) Bert, Storrs, connecticut - Do I keep Antonio Bryant on my bench til he gets better? or drop him...i have sims-walker, randy moss, and devery henderson(which ill only use as a flex when the saints have a good match up) Available wide receivers in my league include mason, burleson, garcon, and gage...thanks for the help
(09/29 15:09 PM) Yes, drop Bryant. The QB situation is a mess, as is Bryant's knee. I would much rather have Mason and Burleson, and you might want to drop Henderson as well and add both. Burleson is third in the NFL in targets among receivers at 30.
(09/29 15:09 PM) Barry, Maryland - Really tough decision: Should I drop A. Bradshaw or Greg Olsen from my bench to pick up Glen Coffee? Also just a general comment: Sometimes it stinks to have a great bench, because its too hard to drop anyone for a waiver pickup.
(09/29 15:10 PM) No, don't drop those guys. Bradshaw has more value for the season, and unless you have a stud TE in front of Olsen, you'll want him also. Now, if that TE is say Clark, Gates, Witten or Gonzalez, you can drop Olsen for Coffee. But don't jump on a player simply because he's out there and give up on someone who is already proven.
(09/29 15:11 PM) I cant believe it, Alternative Universe - Is Cedric Benson a solid RB2 who is match-up proof? Will he produce against Baltimore when the time comes?
(09/29 15:11 PM) Benson has become legit. After doing well against Pittsburgh, he should be considered a must-start guy with the exception against the Ravens. That will be his toughest test, but the Bengals are doing good job blocking for him and giving him the ball. He's doing the rest and proving to be quite successful.
(09/29 15:12 PM) Doug, Grand Rapids, MI - Thanks for the great chats & podcasts! 10 team / PPR league - looking for a RB4 from these available RBs: F. Jones - DAL A. Bradshaw - NYG D. Brown - IND L. Washington - NYJ J. Strewart - CAR L. McCoy - PHI L. White - TEN (recently dropped) (Currently own Slaton, R. Brown & D. McFadden) Thanks!
(09/29 15:13 PM) Those are a lot of standout guys on your waiver wire even for a 10-team league. I would rank them in this order: Brown, Bradshaw, Washington, Stewart, McCoy, White, Jones (because of his injury and he doesn't catch the ball).
(09/29 15:13 PM) Justin, Parts Unknown - Should I consider trading my Donald Driver for Cedric Benson? Is Benson the real deal this year? My RBs are R. Brown, McFadden (losing faith in him very fast), M. Lynch, L.White. My WRs are Fitz, R.Moss, R.Williams, Driver, L.Evans, and Manningham.
(09/29 15:14 PM) Don't lose faith in McFadden just yet. He should play well this week against the Texans. Yes, if you can get Benson for Driver, make it happen. That's highway robbery at this point.
(09/29 15:14 PM) Scott, Fort Lauderdale, FL - My RBs are Forte, Ronnie Brown, Ray Rice, Sproles and Lynch. I need a WR b/c I have Roddy White, Calvin Johnson and Braylon Edwards. Roddy is on a bye this week so I need a WR bc my Defense is on a bye also so I cannot pick up a WR this week. A guy sent me a trade where I get Roy Williams and I give him Sproles. Should I do it? My league is no flex, no ppr, no pts for return yds, and we play 2 RBs and 3 WRs.
(09/29 15:15 PM) That's not a bad trade even with Williams struggling the past two weeks. Before you make the deal, I would shop Sproles around the league to see what else is out there. When you get an offer, sometimes it doesn't hurt to look around for something else while the deal is pending.
(09/29 15:16 PM) Cannonball, Bilbao, Vizcaya (Basque Country, Spain) - Hi Jamey, I'm in a 10-team PPR league, w/ 3WRs & 2RBs (no flex). My questions are: which WR out of Braylon Edwards, Sims-Walker, & Garcon will come out on top this season? Also, which starting RBs, if any, will be surpassed/overtaken by their backups as the season progresses? Many thanks, man!
(09/29 15:18 PM) Let's focus on the first part of the question and go with Sims-Walker. Garcon's fate is tied to Anthony Gonzalez, and if he remains out, then he will be the best. But since Gonzalez is scheduled to return, Sims-Walker has more value than Edwards, who has a terrible QB situation. As for the second question, you have to look at Fred Jackson, Ahmad Bradshaw, LeSean McCoy, Darren Sproles, Willis McGahee and Donald Brown as some of the options.
(09/29 15:18 PM) timoleon, toronto - PLEASE, Jamey!!! Begging for some expert advice here... As a Colts fan, I've been offered A. Gonzalez, P. Garcon, K. Moreno, and S. Smith (CAR) for Colston and Braylon Edwards. I'm a bit light at RB and my other WRs are Wayne, Sims-Walker, and Bennett.... Is my relentless fandom being preyed on or is this actually a good trade? Thanks!
(09/29 15:19 PM) You should definitely make this trade. Moreno is on the rise and gives you a legitimate reserve RB with the chance to start during a good matchup, and Smith makes up for the loss of Colston. And the Gonzalez-Garcon combo is better than Edwards. This is a steal on your end.
(09/29 15:19 PM) Boris, Buffalo, NY - With Warner on a bye and Hasselbeck questionable for week 3 who should I pick up - S. Hill, Favre or Orton?
(09/29 15:20 PM) Favre is definitely the way to go with this group. He should be throwing for the end zone a lot against the Packers.
(09/29 15:20 PM) Zachary, Oakland Park, FL - Who is the better pickup off the waiver wire - Pierre Garcon or Mike Sims-Walker?
(09/29 15:21 PM) I would lean toward Sims-Walker. He has been a huge part of the offense the past two weeks and has a great matchup in Week 4 against Tennessee. And going forward, he won't lose his job but Garcon could once Anthony Gonzalez comes back.
(09/29 15:21 PM) Will, Hartford, CT - Will Portis be a legit fantasy option for the rest of the year?
(09/29 15:22 PM) He's not looking that way. His injuries are mounting and the offensive line is falling apart. If he has a big game this week against Tampa Bay, look to trade him while his value is high. Right now, you won't get much for him.
(09/29 15:22 PM) Daniel LaRusso, Reseda, CA - I have both F. Jackson and Lynch in a 14 team league. What was once a handcuff/insurance pick up is now a potential complication. How do I use them in Week 4 and beyond? Flex one of them?
(09/29 15:24 PM) Well, you can't put Fred Jackson in a body bag just yet, and don't sweep the leg on Marshawn Lynch. You won't get much production from both this week because Miami has a solid run defense, but obviously you don't have many options with a 14-team league. If you have to start one this week, go with Lynch and see what happens going forward.
(09/29 15:25 PM) Jonny, Sacramento - Should I drop Tashard Choice for Glenn Coffee? Was Tashard Choice a one-week stop gap? or after Monday night's game, should we expect more chances for Choice?
(09/29 15:26 PM) Choice could be outstanding, but it depends on what happens with Marion Barber. If he comes back this week then Choice will be limited to about 10 carries. Coffee, on the other hand, won't lose carries at all. I'd rather have Coffee going forward in case Gore's injuries linger.
(09/29 15:26 PM) Tom from Philippines, manila Philippines - this week who should i start....Tom Brady or Eli Manning?
(09/29 15:27 PM) You have to keep starting Brady even with Eli playing well. You don't want to have Brady on your bench the week he does go off. He has a tough matchup this week, but the Giants should lean on their running game against the Chiefs. I would still start Brady.
(09/29 15:27 PM) Rich, NY - Portis is useless right now and so is Jonathan Stewart. McGahee and Buckhalter are both available, should i drop Stewart for either?
(09/29 15:27 PM) Yes, drop Stewart for McGahee. You should have done that a couple of weeks ago, so good thing he's still there. McGahee is doing what Stewart did last year which is score touchdowns as the No. 2 RB.
(09/29 15:28 PM) David, Great Neck, NY - I know you always consider matchups. Aaron Rodgers or Shaun Hill?
(09/29 15:28 PM) Stick with Rodgers. The Packers could be throwing all day in this game, and I like him better than Hill, who could be handing off to Coffee all day.
(09/29 15:29 PM) John, Chicago IL - Please HELP on this one!!!!! Thinking of picking up Choice or Coffee. I have Berrian, Braylon Edwards, and Chris Wells that I am thinking of dumping. My starting backs this week are Addai and McGahee, my other backs are on byes. What are your thoughts. Please respond I need a little help on this one.
(09/29 15:30 PM) If you can afford the hit at wide receiver, drop Berrian and Edwards. You can drop Wells also but you'd hate to see him start playing well toward the end of the year. But yes, Choice and Coffee have a better outlook going forward based on the injuries.
(09/29 15:30 PM) Joe, Lake Grove, NY - I drafted T.O., TJ, and Braylon and at the moment Mario manningham is my best WR. Is it worth waiting on these three guys or do I make a move now?
(09/29 15:31 PM) I think what you should do is hope one of them has a good game and then start shopping them around the league. If not, you're selling low, which is never a good thing. But yes, you might consider looking to trade if you can get an upgrade in return.
(09/29 15:31 PM) Charles, OKC - Jamey: How is Antonio Bryant looking for this coming weekend? Is Vernon Davis a better start than John Carlson this Sunday?
(09/29 15:32 PM) I'd stay away from Bryant if you can. His knee is not good, and the Bucs are going to start Josh Johnson at QB. As for Davis, he looked good last week, but I'd have a hard time benching Carlson for him based on who is better, even with the matchups.
(09/29 15:32 PM) Joe, NY - I have the oppurtunity of picking up Willie Parker, or Glen Coffee this week but I am not sure who to drop, Ricky Williams, Mike Bell, Lendale White, or Beanie Williams? Also, do you think Beanie will ever produce?
(09/29 15:33 PM) I would drop Bell and White for Parker and Coffee. How is Parker on your waiver wire?
(09/29 15:33 PM) Jamie, Norway, Maine - I know that it's only week 4 of a 17 Week season but what type of value should i be able to get for Brenk Celek?
(09/29 15:34 PM) You can probably get something solid in return, but we're only talking about a TE in a year where there are plenty of them. Still, he's played great, and he's worth a No. 2 WR or a No. 3 RB with upside.
(09/29 15:35 PM) david, windsor ontario - would accept this trade: he sending me brandon jacobs ahamad bradshaw and hinz ward for percy harvin fred jackson and michael turner.
(09/29 15:36 PM) I would stand pat. The Giants RB options will give you a headache each week, and with Turner you're safe starting him. Even Jackson could have value going forward if Lynch struggles or gets hurt. And Harvin isn't better than Ward yet, but he's looked good so far and is worth holding onto.
(09/29 15:36 PM) BearsFan, Chicago - Jamey, I have both Jay Cutler and Forte on my fantasy team. They are taking points away from each other. Do you think i should trade one and if so who?
(09/29 15:37 PM) It depends who else is on your roster. You'll probably want to hold onto both until Forte has a big game, and then you can consider shopping him around to see what's out there.
(09/29 15:37 PM) ALEX, CHICAG, ILL - PLEASE AMSWER MY ?. IS IT SAFE TO START Marshawn Lynch THIS WEEK???PLEASE PLEASE
(09/29 15:37 PM) No, I would not start him against the Dolphins. They have done well in run defense, and Lynch should be rusty.
(09/29 15:38 PM) john, Seattle - Brady and Forte for Flacco and Wayne? Make this trade?
(09/29 15:38 PM) I'd rather have Brady and Forte going forward. I still have faith they will turn things around.
(09/29 15:38 PM) Alice, Maryland - Jamey..please help. I am dismally in the basement of my league this year. Would you pick up Sims-Walker off the waiver wire and drop Antonio Bryant or Royal? Will they both continue to disappoint?
(09/29 15:39 PM) I would rather have Sims-Walker than Bryant. We said Bryant was going to be a bust this year, and that was before he got hurt. His knee is a mess and his QB situation is just as bad. Sims-Walker has much more upside.
(09/29 15:39 PM) Patrick, Albany, NY - I p/u Coffee this week. Is he a better flex play over Addai and Grant?
(09/29 15:39 PM) I would make that call. I love Coffee's matchup against the Rams. He should have a big day.
(09/29 15:40 PM) Brian, Burlington, Ontaro, Canada - At what point is it time to give up on Darren McFadden? I would pick up Glen Coffee but I'm 7th on the waiver wire priority and it seems Coffee will be picked up. Would it be advisable to pick up Tashard Choice?
(09/29 15:40 PM) You can't drop McFadden because he has a great matchup this week against the Texans and should do well. But if you can drop someone else for Coffee or Choice, that's definitely a move you should make.
(09/29 15:41 PM) Jeff, St. Louis - Trade Steven Jackson for Steve Slaton and Cedrick Benson (.5 ppr)? Thanks
(09/29 15:41 PM) If you can get Slaton and Benson for Jackson you should definitely do it. That's a steal on your end because Slaton will come around and Benson is on fire right now.
(09/29 15:42 PM) Landiss, Ontario, Cali not IRVINE !!! - In a PPR and PPC League should I trade Mark Sanchez & Pierre Garcon (me) for Tony Romo and Vernon Davis. Cause my TE Tony Gonzalez has a bye this week Thanx Love the Podcast Too
(09/29 15:43 PM) Haa, the Tim in Irvine references never get old. That's something all our podcast listeners know about. That's a good trade to sell high on Sanchez and Garcon and pick up Romo and Davis. You can then try to flip Davis after this week or drop him for something better.
(09/29 15:43 PM)sideshow, Windsor, Ontario Canada - Whats the deal with Steve Slaton? Is he someone I should try to trade for while his stock is low?
(09/29 15:43 PM) If you can get Slaton cheap, that's the move to make. I think he has a breakout game coming this week against the Raiders, and I like him going forward. He'll start to run better as the season goes on.
(09/29 15:44 PM)Jason, Nashvegas, TN - What to do with Jonathan Stewart....should I drop him for someone more productive like Donald Brown or Julius Jones. (fyi...my RB depth is thin)
(09/29 15:44 PM) Yes, those guys are playing better now, and Brown has more upside. I don't know how those guys weren't drafted.
(09/29 15:45 PM)Lialeh, Virginia - Hi Jamey. Need your help? Last week you said hold onto Mike Bell. Still a good idea? I have one slot open in my lineup what order would you put these guys in for their respective categories: RB's Glen Coffee, Fred Taylor,Tashard Choice, Jerome Harrison / WR's Kevin Walter, Breason,Nate Burleson?
(09/29 15:46 PM) It's time to drop Bell. RB: Coffee, Choice, Harrison, Taylor and WR: Walter, Burleson, Breaston.
(09/29 15:46 PM)James, Ottawa - Hey Jamey, I'm looking to pick up the Bengals DST this week off of waivers. Can you mention three or four other DST's worth considering if I am not able to get Cincy? Thanks
(09/29 15:47 PM) For this week, I would look at Houston if Washington or San Francisco are unavailable.
(09/29 15:48 PM)Joe, Fremont, CA - Jamey, In Dave’s Fantasy & Reality yesterday, he talked about how the strategy of getting a WR early in drafts this season might not pan out. I followed the strategy to a “T” in my 3 leagues getting combinations of Fitz/R. Moss, Wayne/Jennings, and in my keeper league I had Smith (CAR) and picked up Ochocinco and Royal for my first two picks. While not all of those receivers are struggling as much as other, they’re not exactly putting up 2008 stats and therefore are not anchoring my team to wins (Through three weeks, only one of my teams has scored over 100 points...barely). Dave didn’t offer any insight into what a winning team might look like going forward. Do you see players like Steve Smith (NYG) and Desean Jackson anchoring teams going forward, or will the "studs" step up?
(09/29 15:49 PM) This is a great question Joe. It would be hard for any owner, myself included, to bench Fitz, Moss, Calvin Johnson or Steve Smith (CAR) in favor of someone of lesser talent, but as the season goes down, it's a move you might have to consider. I think the studs will step up, and I hope it happens. Keep your fingers crossed because the talent has to win out eventually.
(09/29 15:50 PM)Justin Brain, Coral Springs - Will Joe Flacco Be a top 5 quaterback this year?
(09/29 15:50 PM) He's looking that way. I'm about to offer Flacco, Calvin Johnson and Ray Rice for Steven Jackson and Greg Jennings. What do you guys think?
(09/29 15:51 PM) OK, rapid fire with the lineup questions for Week 4. Go ...
(09/29 15:51 PM)Pat Jenkins, Columbus, Ohio - Should I use Tom Brady against the Ravens this week, or Brett Farve against the Packers? Thanks!
(09/29 15:51 PM) Brady
(09/29 15:52 PM)Matt, Louisville - Best bye week filler: Caddy, M. Bush or L. White?
(09/29 15:52 PM) Bush
(09/29 15:52 PM)Dmitry, chicago - Hill or Sanchez this week?
(09/29 15:52 PM) Hill
(09/29 15:52 PM)derek, SD - cotchery or sims-walker?
(09/29 15:52 PM) Sims-Walker
(09/29 15:52 PM)GM, Tampa - Which 2 to start this week? Portis, McGahee, or Sproles?
(09/29 15:52 PM) Portis if he's healthy and McGahee
(09/29 15:52 PM)Kyle, Weymouth, MA - Reggie Bush or Willie Parker?
(09/29 15:52 PM) Parker
(09/29 15:52 PM)Mark, StL,MO - Romo or Flacco?
(09/29 15:53 PM) Romo
(09/29 15:53 PM)Greg, ca - Manningham or Steve Smith NYG?
(09/29 15:53 PM) Smith
(09/29 15:53 PM)Darin, Los Angeles, Ca - Is Steven Jackson a good start @ SF?
(09/29 15:53 PM) He's iffy. It depends who else you have.
(09/29 15:53 PM)Arthur, Berlin, Germany - What's with the lack of a podcast on Monday? I always look forward to your guys impressions of the games. Also, do you realize that the "podcast" link on your site doesn't have any of the new shows anymore? I have to get them from itunes.
(09/29 15:54 PM) I'll look into that, and we're recording today because Dave and I were working from home Monday.
(09/29 15:54 PM)derek, SD - thomas jones, choice, coffee, and mcgahee? which 2 start
(09/29 15:54 PM) Coffee and Choice but only if Barber is out.
(09/29 15:55 PM)jonz, pittsburgh - crayton sims-walker-marshall- pick 2
(09/29 15:55 PM) Sims-Walker and Marshall. Hopefully last week was a sign of things to come.
(09/29 15:55 PM)Mike, STL - Dropping Patriots DST, should I pickup the 49er's or Bengals this week?
(09/29 15:55 PM) 49ers
(09/29 15:55 PM)Tim, Dayton - Nate Burleson or Mario Manninham for Flex?
(09/29 15:55 PM) Manningham this week.
(09/29 15:55 PM)Andrew, Galesburg, IL - Parker, Moreno, Grant this week?
(09/29 15:56 PM) In this order: Parker, Grant, Moreno
(09/29 15:56 PM)Mark, Stl,MO - Is P. Thomas a good play this week?
(09/29 15:56 PM) Iffy. The Jets run defense is good.
(09/29 15:56 PM)Help Me, Please - Olsen or Vernon?

(09/29 15:57 PM) Palmer
(09/29 15:57 PM)Paul, Montana - Rank the rbs: Bradshaw, LT, Moreno, Lendale, and Choice
(09/29 15:57 PM) Bradshaw, Choice, Moreno, White for this week with LT out.
(09/29 15:57 PM)Ryan, MA - PICK ONE which WR would you start ? Ted Ginn, Devonn Bess or Issac Bruce????
