Chat Transcript

Who is in and who is out for Fantasy Week 5?

Fantasy Writer Sergio Gonzalez will stop by to answer your lineup questions on Monday, Nov. 23 at 4 p.m. ET.

Feel free to submit a question now or stop by Monday afternoon.

11/23 Chat with Sergio Gonzalez
(11/23 16:03 PM) Hey everyone, thanks for chatting with us.
(11/23 16:04 PM) Let's get this thing going. A lot of questions today.
(11/23 16:04 PM) Conrad, Knoxville, TN - Thanks for the ever-producing knowledge, O Wise Serg. Should I drop Grant Hill or Wilson Chandler for Nocioni (some good matchups coming up) or Ilyasova (recent hotness)? Also, Perkins is killin me this week, should I replace him with Frye as my 2nd C (behind Hibbert)? Also, do two of those forwards I mentioned seem a better option for Week 5 (avg-based) than TJ Ford? Thanks for any guidance...
(11/23 16:05 PM) I love Ilyasova while Andrew Bogut is out. He'll be gone possibly for a month, so I think it's worth cutting ties with a run-of-the-mill option like Chandler, who has really been a bit of a disappointment. I would actually sit Hibbert and Ford. Hibbert is struggling since Troy Murphy returned and Ford has gotten off to a horrible start this year.
(11/23 16:05 PM) Mac4tux, New York - Thanks Serg. Keep the great advice coming! Especially after yesterdays Knick's game Serg, I'm loosing faith in Ray Allen. His trade value is low, should I hold, drop or bluff my way out?
(11/23 16:06 PM) I would hold on for now and hope that you could sell high when he gets on some sort of a hot streak. The Celtics are playing well, but we've seen a statistical malaise so far this season out of Allen and Kevin Garnett.
(11/23 16:06 PM) Milad, Iran - Hi my man Sergio!I traded D.Jones-D.wade-A.Randolph for B.Roy-L.Scola-M.Ginobili,did I do a smart move?thanks!
(11/23 16:08 PM) It's tough to trade Dwyane Wade, but I think you made out all right. Roy is near the level of Wade, and Scola and Ginobili outweigh Randolph and Jones.
(11/23 16:08 PM) Mark, nebraska - I enjoy all of these chat that you do with us. I have a question about who to start Eric gordon (MIN,@IND,@DET,MEM) and Gordon will not play tomorrow night or Thabo Sefolosha (@UTA,MIL,HOU). Thank you
(11/23 16:10 PM) I would take Gordon's three possible games this week over Sefolosha's mediocre four.
(11/23 16:11 PM) to, neb - my gurads devin haris, jenning, parker. i need another to start i got rip or ginobili. goth hurt who do i go with. i don't wanna drop any other players. also. forwards: melo, ariza, loul, jamison , garnet, rich jefferson. which four u think i should start.
(11/23 16:12 PM) You are going to have to go to the waiver wire at guard unless you want to risk taking a zero. Neither player is guaranteed to play this week. At forward, I would start Melo, Ariza, Jamison and Garnett this week. Deng plays just two games.
(11/23 16:13 PM) walter, ny - will return of antwan jamison effect gilbert. areanas production?
(11/23 16:13 PM) No, Jamison will take away from front court players like Andray Blatche and Brendan Haywood and possibly some from Caron Butler. We've seen Arenas/Butler/Jamison all thrive together in the past before, though.
(11/23 16:13 PM) david, texas - should i start c paul this week . whats going on with ginobili should i still hold on to him or drop him whats the status with him.
(11/23 16:14 PM) Don't start Chris Paul. He is out indefinitely, but it sounds like he could be out at least another week. Ginobili is banged up, but is well worth stashing if you can afford to carry him.
(11/23 16:14 PM) robert, michigan - garnet or jamison ?
(11/23 16:15 PM) Jamison. Garnett is just not the Fantasy stud he once was. He is putting up just around 13 points with 7 rebounds per game. Jamison, once, he gets back to full strength, is more likely to get back closer to 20-and-10 than Garnett is at this point.
(11/23 16:16 PM) sam, nj - ty evans? whats the status?
(11/23 16:16 PM) Tyreke Evans has a sore ankle and a sprained finger. He considered a game-time decision Monday, but with four games this week, we think he's a safe play.
(11/23 16:16 PM) Crabby, Indy - I have a press conference at 5 PM to announce my 4th Forward for this weeks head-to-head match up. Udonis Haslem or Wilson Chandler?
(11/23 16:17 PM) Go to your press conference and announce with full confidence that you will be starting Udonis Haslem. Even with the three games against four, I like Haslem to be around 10-and-10 this week with Chandler being around just 12 and 5.
(11/23 16:17 PM) Yoni, Germany - How is Lee's comeback affecting the performance of your start of the week? Are you sold on Lee or is he now downgraded to scoring option #4 on a terrible team?
(11/23 16:19 PM) Good question, Yoni. For those of you who don't know, my start of the week is Chris Douglas-Roberts. I think the main options for the Nets are going to be Harris, Lopez and CDR and Lee will battle on the second tier with players like Terrence Williams and possibly even Rafer Alston. I like Lee still, but I think CDR has entrenched himself as a go-to guy.
(11/23 16:19 PM) Will, HN - I like Monta a lot with Jackson gone, would you agree that he could see a decent spike in scoring?
(11/23 16:19 PM) Absolutely. I also like Stephen Curry, who has seen an increase in production his last four games.
(11/23 16:19 PM) Peter, Green Bay, WI - Good afternoon Sergio! I am looking to trade one of my big men (Howard, Bosh, Nene or M. Gasol) for a much need PG (I have Rondo, Rose and J. Terry). My trading buddy has Paul, Williams, Jennings and J. Johnson. What kind of 1-1 trade could I offer?
(11/23 16:21 PM) You could look to cash in on CP3 while he's hurt. You might be able to start him for another couple of weeks, but if you are willing to bite the bullet with Howard in the hopes of CP3's long-term production increase, you would no longer be "much-needing" a PG.
(11/23 16:21 PM) Danny, Nyc - 2 questions. Caron butler or Jeff green this week in average points league. Also kaman Kidd or j rich at my last spot. Thanks Sergio you are the man.
(11/23 16:22 PM) Caron Butler suffered a bit of an injury Monday in practice. That's enough to make me say Green there. I really like Dallas' matchups this week, but I think you still have to go Kaman while he's putting up near 20 and 10 numbers.
(11/23 16:22 PM) D.Jones, N.Ogden UT - H2H Point system, start Peja or R. Brewer?
(11/23 16:23 PM) Even with the two games, I'd go Peja over Brewer who plays three games. Peja has been on fire since Chris Paul's injury.
(11/23 16:23 PM) Rob, Palm Beach Gardens, FL - Love the Tweets!! Need to play two of the following this week: Felton, Mario, J-Wil, and/or Conley. Who would you suggest? Any idea what is happening with Raymond Felton? Best
(11/23 16:24 PM) Thanks, Rob. For those of you with Twitter. You can follow me (@CBSGonzalez) on Twitter. As far as your question, I'd ride the hot hand with Chalmers over Williams and Conley. Felton's production is lacking as a result of a weak offensive scheme in Charlotte, but he's far better than Williams and Conley.
(11/23 16:25 PM) chinoXL63, London - I've been changing my mind all day. Start or sit for the week? Choose 2 (All have 3 game weeks): Odom, Landry, Diaw, Millsap, and Hickson...
(11/23 16:25 PM) Diaw and Landry. Odom is struggling with Bynum back. It's a toss-up between Hickson and Landry, but i like Houston's matchups a bit more.
(11/23 16:26 PM) stephen, collingswood, nj - sergio - is it worth adding dunleavy and dropping jason williams? my guard play is pretty strong (kobe, joe johnson monta, stuckey) so williams would be a util guy at best for me
(11/23 16:26 PM) Absolutely. The long-term appeal is much higher with Dunleavy. If you are starting Williams at any point, you are probably going to be looking for a better option anyway. He's a one-week fill-in at best.
(11/23 16:26 PM) Robin Lopez, Phoenix - Is my brother going to play on Tuesday? Sit him or start him?
(11/23 16:27 PM) Worry not, Robin. I think your brother, Brook, will play despite tweaking an ankle in Monday's practice. He even joked a bit with reporters after the injury and the team didn't even think it necessary to have him undergo an X-ray. You should probably call him and ask, though.
(11/23 16:27 PM) mark, omaha - I have been offered LaMarcus Aldridge for Rudy Gay. What do you think, I have Gay? Thank you i enjoy these talks and appreciate your assistance.
(11/23 16:29 PM) That's a good one. Personally, I like Gay a little more. Aldridge has been quietly under-performing this season and every step Greg Oden takes in the right direction has the probability of taking a chunk out of Aldridge's value. Gay is having an excellent all-around season after taking a small step back a year ago.
(11/23 16:29 PM) Ryan J, Indy - Is JJ Hickson worth keeping on my team for the long run? I am pretty weak at points i have Oden and BWallace on my team already but also have Gasol,Okur, and DWest. I like the fact that Hickson is a SF,PF,C in my league too but i just think i might be looking at him as better than he is going to be in the future. My real question is do you think his minutes will stay at 30 and do you think he will keep his starting role?
(11/23 16:30 PM) I don't know about Hickson's long-term prospects, especially with so many front court options (Varejao, Shaq, Ilgauskas) in Cleveland, but I do know he's worth activating while he's got the hot hand. I think he's going to keep playing while he's producing at this level and as soon as he stops, the decision will be made very easy for you. Ride it out while you can and consider selling high.
(11/23 16:31 PM) charles, cali - i dropped morrow for dunleavy.. what do u think
(11/23 16:31 PM) I think Dunleavy could be a while before he gets back to producing at the level he was before his injury. He's missed a long time and would need at least a couple of weeks to get back into game shape.
(11/23 16:31 PM) Justin, Austin, TX - Would you start Caron Butler (just found out he is injured, but do not know extent) or Jermaine O'Neal (bad matchups) in a H2H format as a flex player for Week 5? I also have Carl Landry (also bad matchups) and Chris Duhon (bad start to season).
(11/23 16:32 PM) Butler is day to day, but the injury doesn't sound too bad at this point. I'd stick it out with him. He basically just had to leave practice Monday, that's all.
(11/23 16:32 PM) Joe, Twitter - I have Iverson on my roster. What would you do with him at this point? Drop him? Do you think He'll sign with another team soon? Thanks.
(11/23 16:33 PM) The longer Iverson is out, the less his chances are of signing with another team. What we saw with New York is that nobody wants the "headache" that would come with A.I. His chances of playing a big role somewhere are real slim in my opinion.
(11/23 16:33 PM) And thanks for following me on Twitter, Joe.
(11/23 16:34 PM) Mark, Va Beach, VA - Better week 5 play Moe Williams (3games or Marcus Camby (4 games)? Total points.
(11/23 16:34 PM) Marcus Camby.
(11/23 16:34 PM) Brandon Roy, Portland, OR - Are you at all concerned with my slow start to the season? I myself am choosing to blame my idiot coach.
(11/23 16:35 PM) Your coach is trying to work with you. He's benched Andre Miller again because you don't think you work well with him. He also says he's giving you the "keys" to the offense so that you can handle the ball almost like a point guard. I think you will be just fine. I'm surprised you don't know this.
(11/23 16:35 PM) Anthony Randolph, New York, NY - Will I ever be unleashed? Don Nelson needs to retire. Heard he just got pneumonia...wonder if that's his cue to leave for good.
(11/23 16:37 PM) That's not nice, Anthony. Coach Nelson is a little under the weather and will miss Tuesday's game, ironically, in Dallas. We all hope he's fine, but you are right, as long as he is your coach, you will be up-and-down.
(11/23 16:37 PM) Mike, Tallahassee,Fl - I was offered a trade of Brendan Haywood for Bogut in a 12 team h2h. I have Okafor, Camby, and Chandler as my other bigs. Wondered if you thought it was worth it to move the always injured Bogut.
(11/23 16:38 PM) You can find Brendan Haywood-type centers off the waiver wire. Hang on to Bogut and his frustrating injuries for his upside.
(11/23 16:38 PM) Kevin, New York, NY - Look into your crystal ball. What do you see about Mcgrady in 2 weeks?
(11/23 16:39 PM) I see many medical exams ahead. T-Mac will have to prove he is 100 percent healthy and without any chance of a setback before returning. It also appears that coach Westphal doesn't want to screw with his current rotation. There have been reports of bickering between player and coach.
(11/23 16:39 PM) Ersan Ilyasova, Milwaukee - Am I for real? Can I continue to produce even when Bogut comes back? What are your projections for me going forward?
(11/23 16:39 PM) You were putting up decent numbers even before Bogut went down. I think you'll be much more consistent while Bogut is down, but eventually your numbers will return to being erratic. Make the most of your minutes while you can. You are an excellent start in Fantasy leagues this week.
(11/23 16:40 PM) jason, indiana - who is the best choice?? Rudy Fernandez, Morrow, or Harden for this week
(11/23 16:40 PM) Fernandez has stepped up his game recently and the team is relying on him as its scoring presence off the bench with Andre Miller not doing much. I'd go Fernandez.
(11/23 16:40 PM) michael, CT - Sergio, Is KG ever going to take more than 12-13 shots a game??? This is getting ridiculous!!!....outside of the Knicks game where he was ice cold (and of course chucks up 15 shots) he comes out strong in Q1 and then disappears!!!.....should I hold or attempt to trade?
(11/23 16:41 PM) I think that if you can trade him based on his name, you should consider doing so. It looks like he's playing on cruise control and he's no longer needed to do it all on a team that has so many options.
(11/23 16:41 PM) mac4tux, New York - Serg, Thanks for answering my question today and for the good advice.
(11/23 16:41 PM) You are welcome.
(11/23 16:41 PM) Amare Stoudemire, Phoenix - Why am I such a bum? Why can't I grab more than 5 rebounds? Will I get better or is this about what I will do all year long? What are some reasonable trade targets for owners looking for big-man stats?
(11/23 16:42 PM) Amar'e. Don't be so hard on yourself. You are averaging 19-and-7. If you can get yourself a guy like Brook Lopez for, well, yourself, go for it. But I wouldn't be too worried about it.
(11/23 16:43 PM) Jason, indiana - 9 category roto league, is it time to cut Andre Miller loose and add Nate Rob
(11/23 16:44 PM) It's tough because Miller can be so valuable with his assists. But things don't look good for him in Portland. Robinson, at times, could be a well-rounded Fantasy option, but he is not exactly in the good graces of coach D'Antoni. I think Miller's potential for assists should buy him a little while longer in category-based play.
(11/23 16:44 PM) Ku, Toronto - I'm in a very deep league. I would like to know how these players would pay-off in the long run and any projections. Can you tell me more about these players: Taj Gibson, Omri Casspi, Marcus Thornton, Tyler Hasnbrough, J.J. Hickson, Rodney Carney. Thanks man!
(11/23 16:47 PM) Gibson is playing well while Tyrus Thomas is out, he can get you around 10 and 7 when he's going well, but he is struggling with his shot. Casspi had a big game the other day, but he's too erratic to trust. Thornton has some value while CP3 is out. Hansbrough is going to find it hard to get minutes while Murphy is healthy. Hickson has good scoring ability and a starting job. Carney is getting more minutes since Marreese Speights went down and is worth a flier. I would rank them Hickson, Thornton, Gibson, Carney, Casspi, Hansbrough.
(11/23 16:47 PM) Mark, Va Beach, VA - Whats up Sergio? Pick 1 for week 5 Troy Murphy (3 games) Moe Williams (3 games) Marcus Camby (4 games) Thanks
(11/23 16:48 PM) I'm guessing this is a cumulative league. I'd go Camby.
(11/23 16:48 PM) James H, New Haven, CT - Another question Serg. Dahntay's playing fantastic lately, but with Dunleavy coming back soon, should I look to trade D.Jones while his value is high? Or do you think he hasn't peaked yet and he is worth keeping around?
(11/23 16:48 PM) Yes. Absolutely. It would be a great move on your end.
(11/23 16:49 PM) James H., New Haven, CT - Hey Serg, thanks for all your tips. Picked up CDR and Dahtay off the waiver wire a few weeks ago and it's been sweet! My question is, should I trade my Ray Allen away? He's been performing terribly and Celtics don't even look dominant anymore. I was thinking a Ray Allen for Russell Westbrook trade. Also, in your waiver wire report this week, you suggested picking up kenyon martin. Should I drop Landry in favor of Martin?
(11/23 16:50 PM) You are welcome, James. He is another player, like Garnett, that you could trade based on his name value. The Celtics just don't need him to carry the scoring load and we're seeing a much more spread out distribution of shots in Boston where Allen may never get back to his elite scoring days. He'll have a big game here and there, but I don't see him being more than a low-end No. 2 guard.
(11/23 16:51 PM) As for your second part of the question, I would start K-Mart over Landry in a cumulative league this week, but long term I still like Landry a lot better.
(11/23 16:51 PM) RJ, Jupiter - Drop J-Wil for Harden? I need a long-term guard.
(11/23 16:51 PM) Not a big fan of J-Will in Fantasy. Harden has a much better long-term ceiling.
(11/23 16:51 PM) Big Al, NC - Yo Sergio!! I just saw that Carol Butler missed practice today. Who do you recommend for this week (average scoring) - Butler, AK47, Gallinari? Thanks boss!!
(11/23 16:52 PM) I think Butler will be fine. He just had to leave practice. I would go Butler still.
(11/23 16:52 PM) Gary, CT - What's up Sergio - What side of this trade would you rather have. Gilbert and Gallinari or Boozer and Harden
(11/23 16:52 PM) Gilbert and Gallinari
(11/23 16:52 PM) Ben, Milwaukee - Hi Sergio....what have you heard about Bogut's injury? Should we expect it to be more towards the 2 or 4 weeks?
(11/23 16:53 PM) He posted on his Twitter yesterday that he is rehabbing, but still no update as far as a timetable. Let's put it right in the middle at three weeks for now.
(11/23 16:53 PM) Rye, Toronto - Hi Sergio, which guards would you recommend? Redd, E. Gordon, D. Jones, T. Evans, A. Miller and A. Brooks. Which 4 would you start? Thanks!
(11/23 16:53 PM) I'd go Evans, Brooks, Jones, Redd
(11/23 16:54 PM) Gordon's groin injury still scares me. Redd is going to be limited early on, but at least he'll play.
(11/23 16:54 PM) Batman, Gothum City - I was wondering if Manu has a chance of playing this week cause he smacked my little brother and I wanna smack him now.
(11/23 16:55 PM) That's real funny! I don't think you'll get your chance at revenge until next week, though. Funny stuff.
(11/23 16:55 PM) Tom, Phoenix, AZ - Hey Sergio, first you have the best job in the world! Second, Brand does not seem to get any respect these days in the fantasy world but I am not sure why. Is this because he has a history of injury or not getting consistent minutes to begin the season? What kind of numbers do you see Brand putting up this year?
(11/23 16:56 PM) Thanks, Tom. Actually, if you get a chance, check out our most recent Fantasy Pick and Roll podcast from today. Jamey and Eisenberg discuss this at length. I do think Brand can be a productive Fantasy option down the stretch, I just think his minutes and touches will decline some when Marreese Speights returns. I think Brand will stay around 17-and-7 for now and then could drop to around 15-and-6.5 once Speights returns.
(11/23 16:57 PM) Ronny, Starkville, MS - someone dropped Andrew Bogut in my league (12 team h2h 9 categories with TO) My team: Durant Pau Gasol Al Jefferson Monta Mo Williams Gallinari Chalmers Rip Udrih Hughes Ben Wallace Jones A. Randolph I was thinking maybe drop Wallace for him? what do you think?
(11/23 16:57 PM) Hurry up and do that before it's too late.
(11/23 16:57 PM) AJ, MA - Which two would you sit this week out of this group: Felton, Alston, Fernandez, A Miller, Conley
(11/23 16:57 PM) Miller and Conley.
(11/23 16:58 PM) Aaron Brooks, Houston, TX - Will I break out this year? I've been frustratingly up and down so far.
(11/23 16:58 PM) Yes. I called you a breakout coming into the year and I'm sticking by it.
(11/23 16:58 PM) So many famous people in the chat today. I like it.
(11/23 16:58 PM) Mike, Chicago Illinois - Should I use Marvin Williams or Peja Stoakovic
(11/23 16:59 PM) I'd go Williams right now. Both are hot, but Williams has the added game over Peja.
(11/23 16:59 PM) Jay, Michigan - What do you see ahead for Spencer Hawes? He shows flashes, but then I hear Sacramento is looking to trade for a C. Is he still in Westphal's doghouse from skipping the summer league or what?
(11/23 16:59 PM) They don't seem to like him very much in Sacramento and the way they've handled him this season has been atrocious. He's a very talented center, but I think he's going to be up-and-down this year.
(11/23 17:00 PM) Gordon, NY, NY - Which Gordon do you like better for a H2H league. Ben or Eric?
(11/23 17:00 PM) For this week. Ben since he's not injured.
(11/23 17:00 PM) Dave, La Grange, IL - Should I start Maggette, Beasley or Marcus Thorntan don't laugh.
(11/23 17:01 PM) HAHA. Just kidding. That's not funny at all. I would start Thornton and Beasley this week.
(11/23 17:01 PM) That's all we have time for this week. I wish I could get to everybody.
(11/23 17:02 PM) I've been answering questions on Twitter a lot lately. I'll keep answering questions there until lineup deadlines tonight. Follow me at twitter.com/cbsgonzalez
(11/23 17:02 PM) Good luck with all your teams this week!
