Matt Holliday returns to Cardinals' lineup on Saturday

(3:45 pm ET) Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday returned to the lineup for Saturday's game. 

Holliday was held out of the lineup for Friday's game, suffering from an illness. 

He'll bat third in the order. 


Dodgers activate Yasmani Grandal from DL, send down Chris Heisey

(3:40 pm ET) The Dodgers announced that catcher Yasmani Grandal was activated from the seven-day disabled list prior to Saturday's game.

Grandal suffered a concussion, but he completed a minor league injury rehab assignment and is ready to return to the team. 

To make room for Grandal, the Dodgers sent outfielder Chris Heisey to Triple-A. Heisey hit .111 in five games with the team. 


Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo off against lefty Saturday

(3:39 pm ET) Rangers right fielder Shin-Soo Choo is grabbing some pine Saturday against Boston left-hander Wade Miley. Choo is  11-for-58 against southpaws this season and 0-for-5 lifetime against Miley.

The absence from the lineup is his first since April 29.

Choo has cooled since a tremendous run. He is batting .167 (3-for-18) over his last six games.


Rangers DFA Tommy Field to call up Alex Gonzalez

(3:33 pm ET) As expected, the Rangers called up Alex "Chi Chi" Gonzalez to start Saturday's game.

To make room for Chi Chi on the roster, the Rangers designated infielder Tommy Field for assignment. 

Gonzalez was 3-5 with a 4.15 ERA at Triple-A Round Rock. Field was hitting .195 in 14 games for the Rangers. 


Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts benched Saturday

(3:28 pm ET) Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts is out of the lineup Saturday at Texas. He has been dealing with a forearm problem caused on a hit-by-pitch Thursday, but he played Friday.

His absence could be due instead to a horrible slump. Bogaerts is hitless in 15 at-bats since a 4-for-4 performance Sunday.


Royals send down Paulo Orlando to make room for Alex Rios

(3:25 pm ET) The Royals announced that outfielder Alex Rios was activated from the disabled list on Saturday. 

Rios had been out with a fractured hand since mid-April. 

To make room for Rios, the Royals optioned outfielder Paulo Orlando to Triple-A Omaha. Orlando was hitting .241 with one home run seven RBI. He had a league-leading five triples, however. 


Red Sox DH David Ortiz back in action Saturday

(3:23 pm ET) John Farrell was good on his word - he has put Red Sox aging slugger David Ortiz back in the lineup for the Saturday night game against Texas.

Ortiz was benched for the last two games to work on his swing. He is hoping to rebound from 1-for-20 and 3-for-31 slides.


Royals OF Alex Rios back Saturday after seven-week absence

(3:15 pm ET) What was anticipated is finally a reality - Royals outfielder Alex Rios is back in action. He is starting Saturday night against the host Cubs.

Rios has been out since April 13 with a fractured left hand.


HBP knocks Nationals slugger Bryce Harper out of Saturday start

(3:12 pm ET) A sore back has cost sizzling Nationals left fielder Bryce Harper a start Saturday night in Cincinnati, per MASNSports.com.

The issue was the result of a hit-by-pitch off a fastball thrown Friday by Tony Cingrani.

Harper owns a five-game hitting streak, during which he has two home runs to give him 18 on the season. He boasts a sensational slash line of .328/.468/.733.


Royals 1B Eric Hosmer, 3B Mike Moustakas set to sit Saturday

(3:01 pm ET) Royals sluggers Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas are both catching breaks Saturday against the host Cubs.

The former has started every game at first base this season while the latter has missed just three at third base.

Both are in mini-slumps. Hosmer has not managed a multi-hit game since May 14 and is 9-for-44 during that stretch with no home runs. Moustakas is batting .200 in his last seven games.
