by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(7/23/2014) Cubs pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada struggled Wednesday against the Padres.

Wada allowed five runs on five hits over four innings. He struck out four and walked four. The Padres were on to Wada early. Yangervis Solarte drove in the game’s first run on a triple, and Carlos Quentin added a sac fly.

Wada was able to compose himself for two innings, but allowed another run in the fourth. Things continued to unravel in the fifth. Wada walked the first two hitters of the inning before giving up a run-scoring double. He then issued two more walks, bringing in another run. Wada got himself out of the inning, but was replaced in the sixth.

With the loss, Wada dropped to 0-1 on the year. His next start will come against the Rockies.

Padres need to be overwhelmed to trade Ian Kennedy
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7/23/2014) The Padres have told some teams that they would need to be overwhelmed to trade pitcher Ian Kennedy, CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman reports.

The Padres have already dealt Chase Headley and Huston Street, but they are looking for a substantial return in order to part with Kennedy or Joaquin Benoit. The Yankees are one of the teams reportedly interested in the Kennedy, though the Padres could decide to hang on to the starter. He owns a 3.62 ERA and 137:37 K:BB ratio in 129 1/3 innings.

Ian Kennedy picks up a win Wednesday against the Cubs
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Kennedy pitched out of trouble a number of times, and only paid for his control problems in the fourth inning. After putting two hitters on via the walk, Kennedy gave up a three-run homer. He would settle down after that and toss two more scoreless innings.

With the win, Kennedy improved to 8-9 on the year. His next start will come against the Braves.
