Sean Doolittle secures 16th save Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:38 pm ET) Athletics closer Sean Doolittle recorded his 16th save Tuesday, striking out one in a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish off his team's 7-4 win over the Astros.

Doolittle may have uncharacteristically issued two walks in his last four outings, but he hasn't given up a hit in six straight appearances. He owns a 2.59 ERA, 0.64 WHIP and 69:4 K:BB ratio in 48 2/3 innings.

Evan Scribner records first win Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:35 pm ET) Athletics pitcher Evan Scribner picked up his first win of the season Tuesday, striking out two in a 1-2-3 eighth inning in his team's 7-4 victory over the Astros.

Scribner (1-0) made quick work of the Astros, needing just nine pitches to get through three batters in the eighth. The A's offense then came through for six runs in the top of the ninth. Scribner owns a 1.69 ERA, 0.56 WHIP and 3:0 K:BB ratio in 5 1/3 innings.

Chad Qualls blasted for five runs in blown save Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:33 pm ET) Astros pitcher Chad Qualls was rocked in a blown save Tuesday, giving up five earned runs on four hits and one walk in two-thirds of an inning in his team's 7-4 loss to the A's.

Qualls (1-2) was handed a 4-1 lead going into the ninth inning, but he let the A's tie the game with two outs before being removed with two runners still on base, both of whom would come around to score. Qualls owns a 3.19 ERA and 33:5 K:BB ratio in 36 2/3 innings.

Scott Feldman tosses seven one-run innings vs. A's
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:30 pm ET) Astros pitcher Scott Feldman didn't factor into the decision Tuesday, giving up just one earned run on five hits and three walks in seven innings and striking out one in his team's 7-4 loss to the A's.

Feldman gave up a fifth-inning solo home run but was otherwise able to navigate through baserunners to end a three-start losing streak. The bullpen denied him a win with an ugly ninth inning. Feldman owns a 4.39 ERA and 62:35 K:BB ratio in 108 2/3 innings. He's slated to take on the Blue Jays Sunday.

Jeff Samardzija gives up four runs vs. Astros
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:30 pm ET) Athletics pitcher Jeff Samardzija didn't factor in the decision Tuesday, surrendering four earned runs on six hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings and striking out seven in his team's 7-4 win over the Astros.

Samardzija gave up a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning, which was his fifth home run allowed in his last four outings. He's managed to win two of his five starts with the A's, giving up just one earned run in each of his two wins. Samardzija owns a 2.92 ERA and 130:35 K:BB ratio in 144 2/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Rays Monday.

Glen Perkins surrenders run in 26th save Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:29 pm ET) Twins pitcher Glen Perkins gave up a run on two hits Tuesday but came away with his 26th save in his teams' 2-1 win over the Royals.

Perkins gave up his first run since July 2, and he's now surrendered multiple hits in three straight outings. The hits haven't slowed him down, however, as the closer has successfully converted eight straight save opportunities. He owns a 2.78 ERA and 56:8 K:BB ratio in 45 1/3 innings.

James Shields walks four in loss vs. Twins Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:26 pm ET) Royals pitcher James Shields was stuck with a loss Tuesday, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and four walks in six innings and striking out five in his team's 2-1 defeat against the Twins.

Shields (9-6) hadn't walked more than three batters in a start since June 3, but he still managed to deliver his fourth quality start in his last five outings. Unfortunately, he's just 1-3 over his last eight games. Shields owns a 3.50 ERA and 125:33 K:BB ratio in 149 1/3 innings. He's slated to take on the A's Sunday.

Kyle Gibson fires seven scoreless innings in win vs. Royals
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:25 pm ET) Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson surrendered just two hits and two walks in seven scoreless innings while striking out seven to earn a win in his team's 2-1 victory over the Royals Tuesday.

Gibson (9-8) has mixed ugly lines with excellent performances over the last month, and he bounced back from a six-run loss in his previous start to turn in a scoreless line for the second time in his last three games. Gibson owns a 3.94 ERA and 61:32 K:BB ratio in 114 1/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the White Sox Sunday.

Ryan Webb picks up win Tuesday vs. Angels
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:23 pm ET) Orioles pitcher Ryan Webb earned a win Tuesday, giving up two hits and striking out one in a scoreless inning of work in his team's 7-6, 12-inning victory over the Angels.

Webb (3-1) has had a rough July, giving up seven earned runs in 5 1/3 innings, but Tuesday's win was a ray of sunshine for the reliever. He owns a 3.67 ERA and 34:9 K:BB ratio in 41 2/3 innings.

Cory Rasmus serves up walkoff home run Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:21 pm ET) Angels pitcher Cory Rasmus gave up a walkoff home run Tuesday to take the loss in his team's 7-6, 12-inning defeat against the Orioles.

Rasmus (2-1) gave up a hit and a walk in the 11th inning but was able to keep the game tied. He then surrendered the decisive blast to the leadoff man in the bottom of the 12th. Rasmus owns a 2.28 ERA and 21:7 K:BB ratio in 23 2/3 innings.
