Birth of son has Oswaldo Arcia sidelined Tuesday

(5:44 pm ET) Twins outfielder Oswaldo Arcia is not with the team Tuesday in Kansas City. He stayed back for the birth of his son and will rejoin the his teammates Wednesday, per the St. Paul Pioneer-Press.

Neil Ramirez headed to disabled list with sore triceps

(5:42 pm ET) Cubs pitcher Neil Ramirez, who was sent down to the minors last week to rest his arm, is going on the disabled list with a sore triceps, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The injury is not believed to be serious and could be related to fatigue. Ramirez has been excellent in his rookie season, which is also his first year in relief work. He owns a 0.96 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 36:10 K:BB ratio in 28 innings.


Michael Saunders set to take BP Tuesday

(5:41 pm ET) Mariners right fielder Michael Saunders is closing in on a rehab assignment after missing nearly three weeks with a strained left oblique, per MLB.com.

Saunders was scheduled to take batting practice with the team Tuesday. If all goes well, he will head out on a minor league rehab assignment. Though he is already eligible to be activated off the disabled list, he is unlikely to play for Seattle until at least the second week of August.


Jayson Werth should be available off bench Tuesday

(5:32 pm ET) Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth should be available off the bench Tuesday and could return to the lineup Wednesday, masnsports.com reports.

Werth is dealing with an ankle injury, but it's not considered serious. He has hit .284/.376/.445 with 12 home runs and 58 RBI in 380 at-bats.


James Paxton appears set for Saturday start

(5:29 pm ET) Mariners left-hander James Paxton appears all but set for a return to the mound Saturday in Baltimore. He has been recovering from a lat injury since making his first two starts of the season.

Paxton is slated to throw a standard bullpen workout before the Tuesday game in Cleveland. That stint would follow a 78-pitch rehab outing Sunday for Triple-A Tacoma.

"We'll see what happens (Wednesday)," Lloyd McClendon told the Tacoma News-Tribune. "Then we'll make a decision. Everything up to this point has been great."


Soreness pushes back timetable for Ryan Hanigan

(5:19 pm ET) Rays catcher Ryan Hanigan experienced soreness in his oblique Tuesday, which pushes back his timetable to return to the team a few days, per the Tampa Bay Times.

Hanigan, who had been expected to come back by Friday, has been out since July 8.


Matt Cain to see Dr. James Andrews

(5:17 pm ET) Giants pitcher Matt Cain scheduled to get a second opinion on his injured elbow from Dr. James Andrews, 95.7 The Game reports.

Manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday that Cain's elbow wasn't improving and that he would likely undergo further testing. Out since July 9, Cain will wait and see what Dr. Andrews has to say before determining the next course of action.


Giants add Travis Ishikawa, Juan Perez

(5:12 pm ET) The Giants announced several roster moves Tuesday, with first baseman Travis Ishikawa and outfielder Juan Perez joining the team from Triple-A Fresno.

To make room for the two batters, the team has designated second baseman Tony Abreu for assignment and optioned first baseman Adam Duvall.

Ishikawa hit .206/.263/.382 in 34 at-bats with the Pirates before being released in April. The Giants picked him up a few days later, and he has hit .271/.349/.446 with 11 home runs and 45 RBI in 240 at-bats with Fresno.

Perez has had a few stints with the Giants this season, hitting .156/.208/.267 in 45 at-bats. He has performed much better with Fresno, hitting .333/.397/.496 with three home runs, 17 RBI and seven stolen bases in 117 at-bats.


Kyle Gibson ready to roll for start against Royals

(5:11 pm ET) A back issue that prevented Twins rookie right-hander Kyle Gibson from making his last start has subsided enough to allow him to pitch Tuesday in Kansas City.

Gibson hopes he can perform getter than he did in his last five starts. Despite throwing six innings of shutout ball against Kansas City, he has allowed 20 earned runs on 34 hits in 24 1/3 innings during that stretch.


Josh Rutledge misses second straight start Tuesday

(5:07 pm ET) Rockies shortstop Josh Rutledge was held out of the lineup Tuesday against the Cubs due to an upper respiratory infection, according to The Denver Post. It was the second straight start he missed.
