Alex Cobb strikes out 12 in win vs. Brewers
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:15 pm ET) Rays pitcher Alex Cobb put up a big line in Tuesday's win, giving up one earned run on three hits and two walks in eight innings and striking out 12 in his team's 5-1 victory over the Brewers.

Cobb (7-6) has been very impressive in two straight starts after striking out 10 in seven scoreless innings in his previous outing. Now 5-0 over his last six games, Cobb owns a 3.54 ERA and 92:28 K:BB ratio in 96 2/3 innings. He's slated to take on the A's Monday.

Will Smith takes loss Tuesday vs. Rays
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:12 pm ET) Brewers pitcher Will Smith was stuck with a loss Tuesday after giving up four earned runs on two hits and three walks in one-third of an inning in his team's 5-1 defeat against the Rays.

The only out Smith (1-3) was able to record was on a sacrifice after the leadoff man reached base via a walk. Two doubles brought home two runs, and Smith walked the bases loaded before being removed. He owns a 3.72 ERA and 65:24 K:BB ratio in 48 1/3 innings.

Matt Garza tosses seven one-run innings vs. Rays
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:12 pm ET) Brewers pitcher Matt Garza didn't factor in to the decision Tuesday, giving up one earned run on five hits and two walks in seven innings and striking out two in his team's 5-1 loss to the Rays.

Garza surrendered just a solo home run in the sixth inning while facing his old team, but the offense couldn't muster more than a single run before the Rays broke the game open in the eighth. Garza owns a 3.74 ERA and 100:43 K:BB ratio in 139 2/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Giants next Tuesday.

Scott Elbert designated for assignment
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:02 pm ET) The Dodgers activated pitcher Scott Elbert from the 60-day disabled list Tuesday and immediately designated him for assignment.

Elbert was working his way back from three elbow surgeries over the last two years, but he was an effective arm out of the Dodger bullpen in 2011 and 2012. The team will likely hope he passes through waivers so he can continue to work towards full strength at the minor-league level.

Aroldis Chapman locks down 23rd save Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:51 pm ET) Reds closer Aroldis Chapman picked up his 23rd save Tuesday, striking out one during a 1-2-3 inning to close out his team's 3-0 win over the Diamondbacks.

Chapman has managed to record at least one strikeout in each of his 33 outings this season, helping him post a blistering 67:11 K:BB ratio in 33 1/3 innings. He owns a 2.16 ERA and 0.78 WHIP and has converted 92 percent of his save opportunities.

Dillon Gee gives up five runs in loss vs. Phillies
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:48 pm ET) Mets pitcher Dillon Gee took a loss Tuesday, surrendering five earned runs on five hits and three walks in 6 2/3 innings and striking out two in his team's 6-0 defeat against the Phillies.

Gee (4-4) surrendered solo home runs in the third and fourth innings before coming out of the game with the bases loaded in the seventh. The bullpen gave up a grand slam to take away Gee's quality start. He owns a 3.77 ERA and 53:21 K:BB ratio in 76 1/3 innings. Gee is slated to face the Giants Monday.

Cole Hamels excels in eight scoreless innings vs. Mets
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:48 pm ET) Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels was at the top of his game Tuesday, giving up just six hits in eight scoreless innings while striking out eight and walking none in his team's 6-0 win over the Mets.

Hamels (6-5) has seen his name come up in trade rumors, and he showed Tuesday why it would take a massive offer to pull him away from the Phillies. He has turned in five straight quality starts, giving up just two earned runs in 23 innings over his last three outings. Hamels owns a 2.55 ERA and 133:39 K:BB ratio in 130 1/3 innings. If he's still with the Phillies through the deadline, he'll face the Nationals Sunday.

Trevor Cahill posts quality start in loss vs. Reds
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:46 pm ET) Diamondbacks pitcher Trevor Cahill recorded a quality start in Tuesday's loss, surrendering three earned runs on seven hits in six innings while striking out three and walking none in his team's 3-0 defeat against the Reds.

Cahill (1-8) is still looking for his first win since rejoining the rotation, but Tuesday's start was just the second time in seven starts he's managed to complete six innings. He owns a 5.59 ERA and 53:27 K:BB ratio in 56 1/3 innings. Cahill is scheduled to face the Pirates Sunday.

Mike Leake shines in win vs. Diamondbacks Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:46 pm ET) Reds pitcher Mike Leake dominated in a win Tuesday, giving up just five hits in 7 2/3 scoreless innings and striking out eight in his team's 3-0 victory over the Diamondbacks.

Leake (8-9) also managed to drive in a run with a second-inning single while recording his first win and quality start in four outings. He owns a 3.53 ERA and 114:29 K:BB ratio in 147 2/3 innings. Leake is on track to face the Marlins Sunday.

Jose Berrios dealing with shoulder tightness
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:39 pm ET) Twins pitching prospect Jose Berrios was removed from Tuesday's start after just 48 pitches due to shoulder tightness, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Berrios had a 3.50 ERA and 13:4 K:BB ratio in three starts with Double-A New Britian entering Tuesday's game. He had previously dominated with high Class A Fort Meyers, posting a 1.96 ERA and 109:23 K:BB ratio in 96 1/3 innings over 16 starts.
