by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(11:42 pm ET) Twins first baseman Joe Mauer went 0 for 3 with a walk in Friday's loss to Seattle.

Mauer's hitless day snapped an 11-game hitting streak. He hit .295 with .726 OPS over the streak.

Marlins' David Phelps allows three runs in no-decision Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:41 pm ET) Marlins pitcher David Phelps had a decent start against the Padres on Friday, but was left with a no-decision in the extra-innings 8-3 loss. Phelps allowed three runs on seven hits over five innings. He walked one and struck out two, and left the game with the score tied 3-3.

Phelps was given an early 2-0 lead in the first, but he allowed a run to score in the third and two more in the fourth to give the Padres the 3-2 advantage. He did not factor in the decision, as the Marlins were able to push across the tying run in the ninth before losing in 11 innings.

Phelps made five appearances--four starts--in July. He went 0-3 with a 3.12 ERA.

To make room, the team optioned shortstop Danny Santana to Triple-A Rochester and shortstop Jorge Polanco to Double-A Chattanooga, per MLB.com.

His status for Saturday's game is currently unknown.

Padres' Ian Kennedy pitches well, takes tough no-decision Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:28 pm ET) Padres right-hander Ian Kennedy posted his third consecutive quality start on Friday, but he did not factor in the final decision. Kennedy allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings. He walked two and struck out five, as the Padres took the 8-3 win over the Marlins in extra innings.

Both runs Kennedy allowed came in the very first inning on a two-run home run by Christian Yelich. But he settled down after that, blanking the Marlins over the next six frames.

Kennedy was left with a no-decision however, as Craig Kimbrel coughed up a game-tying home run in the ninth inning.

Kennedy went 2-2 in six July starts, posting a 3.38 ERA and a 24:7 K:BB ratio.
