Jerry Hairston goes hitless in rehab opener

(12:34 am ET) Dodgers infielder Jerry Hairston (groin, knee) began his minor-league rehab assignment Friday night at Class A Rancho Cucamonga.

Hairston had an uneventful night as he finished 0 for 3 in his first game action since being placed on the disabled list May 6. The Dodgers have not issued a concrete timetable for his return.

Kevin Jepsen throws scoreless inning in rehab appearance

(12:34 am ET) Angels relief pitcher Kevin Jepsen threw a scoreless inning in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Salt Lake Friday. His fastball sat between 92 and 95 miles per hour, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Jepsen is on track to return to the Angels bullpen soon.


Brandon Beachy makes first rehab start

(12:30 am ET) Braves starting pitcher Brandon Beachy (elbow) began his minor-league rehab assignment at Triple-A Gwinnett.

Beachy, who gave up one home run, permitted two runs and two hits over four innings of work. He struck out three and walked three in his first start. Beachy is expected to make 2-4 rehab starts at Triple-A before returning at some point in mid-June.

Ronny Cedeno goes 1 for 3 in return

(12:23 am ET) Astros shortstop Ronny Cedeno went 1 for 3 and scored a run in his return to the lineup Friday against the A's. He was seeing his first game action since May 13 and was scratched from Sunday's lineup with a sinus infection.

Cedeno has hit .283/.323/.400 in 57 at-bats this season.


Cameron Maybin starts rehab stint

(12:21 am ET) Padres outfielder Cameron Maybin began his minor-league rehab assignment Friday at Triple-A Tucson.

Maybin finished 1 for 3 with a strikeout in his first game action since April 15. He will likely need at least 30 rehab at-bats before being called up.

Matt Dominguez homers in return to lineup

(12:20 am ET) Returning to the lineup after taking two days with quad tightness, Astros third baseman Matt Dominguez hit his fifth home run of the season in his team's 6-5 loss to the A's Friday night. He went 1 for 3 with a walk before being removed for a pinch runner in the ninth inning.

Dominguez is 5 for 11 with two home runs over his last three games, raising his batting average to .247 this season.


Clayton Richard nearing return

(12:17 am ET) Padres pitcher Clayton Richard (illness) threw a side session on Friday at Chase Field and is scheduled to return at some point "early next week," barring any setbacks, according to MLB.com.

He went 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA, 12 strikeouts and no walks in 12 innings at Triple-A Tucson.

"We like what we saw," manager Bud Black said. "We were hoping he'd take it and carry it over into competition, which he has. I think that's key."

Chris Young delivers win with three-run home run

(12:16 am ET) Athletics outfielder Chris Young turned a 5-3 deficit in the ninth inning of Friday's game against the Astros into a 6-5 lead by smacking a three-run home run off Houston closer Jose Veras. It was the fifth homer of the season for Young, who went 3 for 5 in the game to boost his batting average to .189 in 106 at-bats.

Adam Eaton to meet with Dr. James Andrews Monday

(12:14 am ET) Diamondbacks outfielder Adam Eaton is expected to visit Dr. James Andrews Tuesday, who will re-evaluate his left elbow.

Eaton's latest MRI showed some fluid around the UCL, but the exams did not show any structural damage. If Andrews confirms the diagnosis, then Eaton will be shut down for 2-3 weeks before re-starting his rehab assignment.

Miguel Tejada hits second home run

(12:12 am ET) Royals third baseman Miguel Tejada hit his second home run of the year Friday against the Angels while drawing a start at third base. He also homered in his last start, which came on Monday against the Astros.

Tejada has hit .323/.364/.548 in 31 at-bats for the Royals. He could start to see more playing time if Mike Moustakas can't turn it around at the plate.
