Rays SP Matt Andriese struggles vs. Orioles Monday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4:48 pm ET) Rays starting pitcher Matt Andriese allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks in three innings while striking out four in his team's 6-6 tie with the Rays Monday.

Andriese had been pitching well coming into Monday's outing, posting a 1.10 ERA in 16 1/3 innings while striking out 10 batters, but he also issued six walks and allowed three unearned runs in his first five appearances. He's in the mix for one of the team's rotation spots with the Rays dealing with several injuries to starting pitchers.

Cubs' Epstein doesn't expect to deal C Welington Castillo this spring
(4:45 pm ET) The Cubs have received inquiries this spring on their backup catcher Welington Castillo but team president Theo Epstein said he does not expect to trade him prior to Opening Day, reports MLB.com.

“We don’t think it’s a high likelihood we’ll make a move outside of this camp,” Epstein said. “We think we have a lot of answers here in camp and as we look forward into the season with what we have at Triple-A, it’s pretty good.”

Along with Castillo, the Cubs are likely to break camp with catchers Miguel Montero and David Ross.

Castillo is hitting .281 this spring with two home runs and seven RBI in 32 at-bats.

Pirates discussing new contract with OF Gregory Polanco
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(4:41 pm ET) The Pirates and outfielder Gregory Polanco have begun negotiating a new contract a week before the season is set to begin, reports CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

The two sides previously discussed a deal in the seven-year, $50 million range before talks stalled. It's uncertain if the Pirates and Polanco will work out a deal before the start of the season.

Polanco hit .235 with seven home runs and 33 RBI in 2014. He turned the initial offer down due to low prices on his option years. The goal for both sides is to work something out so that negotiations don't carry into the season.

Red Sox's Koji Uehara to throw a bullpen, still unlikely for Opening Day
(4:31 pm ET) Red Sox closer Koji Uehara (hamstring) will toss a bullpen session on Monday but manager John Farrell doesn't expect him to ready by Opening Day, according to the Boston Globe

Uehara had felt discomfort in his hamstring during a bullpen session Saturday, possibly reaggravating an injury he sustained while running on March 17.

Uehara has allowed two earned runs on seven hits in three innings of work this spring.

He's no stranger the NL East, as he spent 2013 with the Braves before joining the Marlins for the 2014 season and hitting .235/.266/.348 in 187 at-bats. Johnson was just 8 for 39 this spring before being released.

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(4:30 pm ET) Nationals manager Matt Williams said that right fielder Jayson Werth took some in-game hits in a minor-league game for the first time this spring, according to The Washington Post

Werth had surgery on his shoulder which has kept him out this spring. He's not expected to be ready for Opening Day as Williams previously called him "a stretch" to play by then.

Werth hit .292 with 16 home runs a season ago.

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Pirates name Jeff Locke to rotation, Vance Worley heads to bullpen
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4:26 pm ET) The Pirates named pitcher Jeff Locke as the fifth starter in the rotation Monday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Locke wasn't at his best this spring, giving up 10 earned runs in 13 2/3 innings while posting a 9:5 K:BB ratio, but he is still set to open the season in the rotation. He went 7-6 with a 3.91 ERA and 89:40 K:BB ratio in 131 1/3 innings in 2014.

Vance Worley, who was Locke's primary competition for the role, will head to the bullpen after allowing 10 earned runs in 17 innings while striking out 11 and walking one.
