Giants 1B Brandon Belt smacks sixth home run of season Thursday
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12:54 am ET) Giants first baseman Brandon Belt drove in the only run the Giants would need during a 7-0 win over the Braves on Thursday.

Belt hit a solo home run off Braves starter Shelby Miller in the sixth inning to give the Giants a 1-0 lead, which they would not relinquish. Belt finished the game 2 for 4 with two runs scored and one RBI. He is now batting .305 on the season.

Prior to his two-hit game Thursday, Belt was hitting .347 with five home runs and 13 RBI in his last 12 games.

Mariners' James Paxton suffers finger injury Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:23 am ET) Mariners pitcher James Paxton left Thursday's start against the Indians due to discomfort in his left middle finger, the team announced.

Paxton gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits and one walk in 4 2/3 innings while striking out four before being removed after striking out a batter in the fifth with none on and two outs. He came into the game on a three-start winning streak having allowed two runs or less in six straight starts, but he ran into trouble on Thursday, serving up a solo homer in the second inning before the Indians pushed three runs across in the fourth.

Paxton owns a 3.70 ERA and 45:22 K:BB ratio in 58 1/3 innings. He's slated to face the Yankees on Tuesday if he can make his scheduled start.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(5/28/2015) After undergoing emergency surgery to save his lacerated spleen, Rockies prospect David Dahl will miss the remainder of the season, reports Yahoo Sports.

Dahl suffered a massive lasceration to his spleen after he was involved in an on-field collision Thursday at Double-A.

Angels' Erick Aybar exits Thursday with hamstring tightness
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/28/2015) Angels shortstop Erick Aybar was removed from Thursday's game against the Tigers due to left hamstring tightness, the team announced.

Aybar appeared to suffer the injury on a safety squeeze in the fifth inning while trying to beat out his bunt. He was 1 for 2 with a run and an RBI before being replaced by Taylor Featherston. Aybar has hit .273/.318/.328 with one home run, 15 RBI and three stolen bases in 183 at-bats and has served as the team's regular leadoff hitter as of late.

Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts (forearm) avoids fracture
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/28/2015) X-rays have confirmed that Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts did not suffer a fractured forearm on Thursday, the Boston Globe reports.

Bogaerts was hit by a pitch in the second inning of Thursday's win over the Rangers but initially stayed in the game before being replaced by a pinch-hitter in the fourth inning. With his X-rays coming back negative, the shortstop is day-to-day with the injury.

Red Sox's Hanley Ramirez slugs 11th homer Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/28/2015) Red Sox left fielder Hanley Ramirez went 2 for 4 with a walk, a double and a solo home run in his team's 5-1 win over the Rangers on Thursday.

Ramirez, who was serving as the team's designated hitter on Thursday, was able to extend his team's lead to 2-0 with his sixth-inning home run, his first of May after smacking 10 of them in April. He has hit .257/.311/.479 with 11 home runs and 24 RBI in 167 at-bats.

Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez tosses gem in major-league debut
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/28/2015) Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez earned the win in his major-league debut on Thursday, giving up just three hits and two walks in 7 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out seven in his team's 5-1 victory over the Rangers.

Rodriguez (1-0) was dominant in the outing, needing just 90 pitches to get through seven innings. He was removed with two on in the eighth, but the bullpen was able to snuff out the potential rally, letting the rookie finish his debut with no runs to his credit.

Rodriguez was brought up to make a spot start for the team, but with the Red Sox rotation struggling through most of the year, his excellent performance on Thursday will certainly cause management to think long and hard about keeping him in the rotation.

Rangers' Nick Martinez allows two runs in loss vs. Red Sox
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/28/2015) Rangers pitcher Nick Martinez was stuck with a loss on Thursday, giving up two earned runs on nine hits and two walks in seven innings while striking out five in his team's 5-1 defeat against the Red Sox.

Martinez (4-1) did a fine job limiting the damage in Thursday's start while throwing a career-high 112 pitches, but he surrendered an RBI single in the fifth inning to fall behind and added to his deficit with a solo homer in the sixth. The starter has yet to give up more than three earned runs in an outing after winning a rotation spot in the spring.

Martinez owns a 2.03 ERA and 35:19 K:BB ratio in 62 innings. He's slated to face the White Sox at home on Wednesday.

Wagner has never pitched in the big leagues. He is 5-1 with a 2.01 ERA at Double-A this season.
