C.J. Wilson to simulate workload in bullpen

(10:24 am ET) Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson got through a 50-pitch bullpen sessions Monday, and will take the next step in his recovery from an ankle injury in the coming days.

Wilson will throw another bullpen session Wednesday according to MLB.com, this time simulating a couple of innings of work. He will try to test how the ankle responds to getting up and down between throwing, and could go on a rehab assignment shortly after.  


Steve Tolleson going on paternity leave

(10:19 am ET) Blue Jays infielder Steve Tolleson is expected to be away from the team for the next few days, as he is headed to the paternity leave list Tuesday, reports SportsNet.ca.

According to the report, Tolleson is expected to take a three-day leave from the team, with Ryan Goins being called up to take his place. 


Blue Jays recalling Aaron Sanchez, Ryan Goins

(10:17 am ET) The Blue Jays plan to recall pitching prospect Aaron Sanchez and infielder Ryan Goins Tuesday, according to SportsNet.ca.

Sanchez is expected to pitch out of the bullpen for the Blue Jays, as he was converted to relief at Triple-A Buffalo. Goins' time with the team will likely be shorter, as he is being called up to cover for Steve Tolleson's paternity leave stint. 


Michael Cuddyer cleared to begin working out

(10:03 am ET) Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer's left shoulder is healing as expected, and he has been cleared to begin a strengthening program, MLB.com reported Monday.  

Cuddyer had an MRI taken Monday to determine how the shoulder is healing, and it showed no structural damage as he works his way back from a fractured left shoulder. He will begin working out with an expectation of returning to action in mid-August. 


Chris Young exits late Monday with hamstring issue

(9:53 am ET) Mets outfielder Chris Young was forced to leave Monday's game against the Mariners late, due to an issue with his left calf.

Young's calf began cramping up as he left the batters box on an eighth-inning groundout, and received treatment after the game. He is day to day heading into Tuesday's contest. 


Justin Smoak sent back to Triple-A

(9:45 am ET) The Mariners optioned first baseman Justin Smoak to Triple-A Tacoma Tuesday, in order to free up a spot on the active roster.

Smoak went 4 for 20 during his 11-day run with the Mariners since he was recalled. 


Adam Jones blasts two home runs in win vs. Angels

(1:16 am ET) Orioles outfielder Adam Jones went 2 for 4 with a pair of two-run home runs in his team's 4-2 win over the Angels Monday.

Providing all the offense for the winning side, Jones knocked his first home run in the top of the first inning to give his team a quick lead. He then broke a 2-2 tie with a sixth-inning blast that ended the scoring on the night. Jones has homered three times in the last three games, and he owns a .300/.325/.500 line with 19 home runs, 63 RBI and six stolen bases in 400 at-bats.


Zach Britton delivers 17th save Monday

(1:14 am ET) Orioles closer Zach Britton picked up his 17th save Monday, tossing a 1-2-3 inning to finish off his team's 4-2 win over the Angels.

Britton may have worked a clean frame, but he didn't escape unscathed, as he was hit by a comebacker by the first batter he faced and was seen shaking his arm after recording the out. He remained in to retire the final two batters and finish off the Angels with just seven pitches. Britton owns a 1.81 ERA and 40:14 K:BB ratio in 49 2/3 innings.


Bud Norris strikes out eight in win vs. Angels Monday

(1:13 am ET) Orioles pitcher Bud Norris earned a win Monday, giving up two runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings while striking out eight in his team's 4-2 victory over the Angels.

Norris (8-6) didn't fare well in his start with Double-A Bowie during the All-Star break but was able to keep the game in control Monday, giving up just one extra-base hit in the outing. He owns a 3.78 ERA and 70:31 K:BB ratio in 97 2/3 innings. Norris is lined up to face the Mariners Saturday.


Matt Shoemaker strikes out 10 in loss vs. Orioles

(1:13 am ET) Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker was hung with a loss Monday after giving up four earned runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings while striking out 10 in his team's 4-2 defeat against the Orioles.

Shoemaker (7-3) matched his season high for strikeouts without issuing a walk, but he was doomed by a pair of two-run home runs by Adam Jones. The Angels pitcher owns a 4.54 ERA and 72:15 K:BB ratio in 69 1/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Tigers Saturday.
