Hughes has struggled of late. He is 2-3 on the season but has gone 1-1 in his last two outings with 13 earned runs on 13 hits and four walks over 6 1/3 innings with three strikeouts. 

"I’ve been squaring balls up," Smoak said to MLB.com. "I’ve hit a couple doubles. The homers will come. In the past I’ve got too pull happy trying to be a homer guy. It’s not good for me, as we’ve seen in the past. I’m just trying to get good at-bats, hit the ball where it’s pitched. It’s a long season. Good things will happen."

Manager Eric Wedge feels Smoak's hot streak has staying power.

“I feel like Smoak and [Dustin] Ackley have been getting their hits, but now with Justin he’s starting to create a little more damage," Wedge said. "But he’s been getting on base, he’s had long at-bats. Those have all been good things to see."

New York will pitch CC Sabathia, Phil Hughes and Hiroki Kuroda in the three-game series in Baltimore. 

Sabathia instead will pitch Monday to begin a series in Baltimore opposite Freddy Garcia of the Orioles. 

Sabathia has gone 17-4 with a 3.03 ERA over 26 career starts against the Orioles. He's 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA this season in one outing. 

The 25-year-old Jimenez hit .232 for the Angels over 69 at-bats. He had two RBI. 

Nelson went 8 for 36 (.222) with two doubles in his stint with the Yankees, which designated him for assignment last week. 

"He just came off the plate," Wedge said. "He just released too early. You’ve got to keep your foot planted. You’re not going to turn two on that, so you’ve just got to keep your foot planted on that."

The 23-year-old Montero continues to be more prized for his hitting than his fielding, but he has gone 7 for 34 (.206) in May with a homer and two RBI. He's struck out six times during the month. Montero is batting .206 on the season with three homers and nine RBI over 97 at-bats. 

Harang missed his last start with a stiff back. He's 1-4 with a 7.30 ERA in five starts. He has 23 strikeouts over 24 1/3 innings. 

Part of the trade that sent former Ray James Shields to Kansas City, Odorizzi is 4-0 with a 3.83 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 47 strikeouts in 44 2/3 innings over eight starts with Triple-A Durham this season.
