Twins add Caleb Thielbar to bullpen
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3:21 pm ET) The Twins recalled reliever Caleb Thielbar from Triple-A Rochester Monday after demoting starting pitcher Pedro Hernandez to the minors. Thielbar posted a 3.76 ERA with 34 strikeouts and eight walks in 17 relief outings for Rochester.

Twins have open date in rotation after demoting SP
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3:20 pm ET) The Twins optioned starting pitcher Pedro Hernandez to Triple-A Rochester Monday to clear a spot for reliever Caleb Thielbar. The Twins have an open date for a starting pitcher Friday at Detroit.

Hernandez allowed three earned runs on nine hits and a walk in 4 1/3 innings Sunday against the Red Sox. He is 2-1 with a 5.85 ERA through eight outings (six starts).

Tony Cingrani is worth holding onto
by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3:19 pm ET) With Tony Cingrani being demoted to Triple-A, the Reds' pitcher has seen a big drop in ownership percentage, from 89 to 60 percent ... and counting.

But Cingrani went 2-0 with a 3.27 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 33 innings over six starts, striking out 41. He proved that he could pitch at the major-league level, even though he allowed a relatively high seven home runs. And although there isn't a role for Cingrani in the rotation now, he's going to get another shot this season, whether through injury or implosion.

I'm not going overboard with my holding/adding of Cingrani, but if a roster allows for him to be kept over, say, a bench bat that will never see the light of day, or a John Axford-type fingers-crossed closer gambit -- I'm going with Cingrani. There may come a point where he has to be moved to make room for a necessary addition, but owners should hold on to him for as long as possible, as a return to the majors will mean big things in ERA, WHIP and strikeouts.

Brian McCann gets day off Monday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(3:17 pm ET) Braves catcher Brian McCann is not in the starting lineup Monday.

McCann is starting to get back to regular playing time after coming back from a shoulder injury. McCann will be replaced by Gerald Laird, who will hit fifth against the Twins. McCann should return to face Mike Pelfrey Tuesday.

Dan Straily has a splits problem
by Al Melchior | Data Analyst
(3:12 pm ET) Dan Straily's 7.27 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through five starts have been painful for his Fantasy owners to absorb, but when you take a deeper look at his stats, it seems as if there's hope for a rebound. He's thrown strikes at a decent 63 percent rate and has only allowed three home runs, but Straily has let more than half of his baserunners score.

While Straily is due to strand a higher proportion of runners going forward, there may not be much hope for him to reduce a 4.2 BB/9 rate that has also put a damper on his value. The Athletics rookie has walked 22 batters in 26 career innings against lefties. He uses his changeup much more frequently against lefties, but he hasn't commanded the pitch well.

While Straily can continue to provide strikeouts, he'll be like a right-handed Felix Doubront -- too wild to provide any real benefit from his high K-rate. He's worth stashing in deeper leagues in the event that he resolves this issue, but there aren't signs of Straily turning his season around in the immediate future.

Zack Cozart still out of Reds lineup
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(3:11 pm ET) After being scratched from Sunday's game with an illness, Reds shortstop Zack Cozart is not in the starting lineup Monday.

Cozart is hitting .206/.233/.338 in 160 at-bats. He has been hitting second for the Reds most of the season. With Shin-Soo Choo also out, the Reds will go with a different 1-2 punch at the top of the order. Cesar Izturis will replace Cozart, and hit second.

Adeiny Hechavarria flying under the radar
by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(3:08 pm ET) In 107 at-bats this season, Marlins shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria is sporting a rather unimpressive line: .206 average, two home runs and a .628 OPS. But over his last eight games, Hechavarria is hitting .300, with two triples and three runs scored. He has hit first or second in eight of his last 11 games. He leads the majors in triples (five) and has mentioned that he strategically plays to Miami's large park, expecting more extra-base hits as the season progresses.

Hechavarria has failed to steal a base this season, but he does play every day and seems to be getting more comfortable in the second spot of the batting order. Additionally, he's eligible at shortstop and third base. I wouldn't drop a Rickie Weeks for him in a mixed league, but an NL-only owner may want to look a little deeper at the 24-year-old's recent production and consider Hechavarria for a middle infield spot.

Shin-Soo Choo out of starting lineup Monday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(3:07 pm ET) Reds outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is not in the starting lineup Monday.

Choo has been strong with a .309/.456/.549 line in 162 at-bats. He will be replaced by Shane Robinson, who will hit leadoff. He should return to the lineup Tuesday against Mets' starter Jonathon Niese.

Blue Jays reward Adam Lind for strong play
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2:52 pm ET) Blue Jays DH Adam Lind moved into the cleanup spot Monday against the Rays for the first time this season. Lind is batting .382 (13 for 34) with three home runs, four doubles, five RBI and eight runs in his last 10 games (eight starts).

"He's definitely been one of our hotter hitters," manager John Gibbons said to MLB.com. "We've had him in the five spot when (J.P.) Arencibia's playing, and Arencibia's not playing today."

Time to buy low on Will Middlebrooks
by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer
(2:52 pm ET) Hidden in a disappointing overall stat line for Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks is the hot run he's been on: a .275 average with two home runs, seven doubles and a .910 OPS over his last 10 games. Started in just 64 percent of leagues, Middlebrooks has been a nice Fantasy asset lately, turning in a 20-point performance in Week 7 and finding what looks to be a groove in mid-May.

Middlebrooks strikes out a lot, but he balances it with nice power (eight home runs in 160 at-bats this year) and a shot at a decent average (he hit .288 last year). With plenty of owners having been frustrated at Middlebrooks' lack of production this year, now is the time to hope his recent production has gone unnoticed and sneak in a seemingly-minor deal for the 24-year-old. The upside could be 20-plus home runs the rest of the way, with a .275-ish average.
