Hernandez allowed three earned runs on nine hits and a walk in 4 1/3 innings Sunday against the Red Sox. He is 2-1 with a 5.85 ERA through eight outings (six starts).

But Cingrani went 2-0 with a 3.27 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 33 innings over six starts, striking out 41. He proved that he could pitch at the major-league level, even though he allowed a relatively high seven home runs. And although there isn't a role for Cingrani in the rotation now, he's going to get another shot this season, whether through injury or implosion.
I'm not going overboard with my holding/adding of Cingrani, but if a roster allows for him to be kept over, say, a bench bat that will never see the light of day, or a John Axford-type fingers-crossed closer gambit -- I'm going with Cingrani. There may come a point where he has to be moved to make room for a necessary addition, but owners should hold on to him for as long as possible, as a return to the majors will mean big things in ERA, WHIP and strikeouts.

McCann is starting to get back to regular playing time after coming back from a shoulder injury. McCann will be replaced by Gerald Laird, who will hit fifth against the Twins. McCann should return to face Mike Pelfrey Tuesday.

While Straily is due to strand a higher proportion of runners going forward, there may not be much hope for him to reduce a 4.2 BB/9 rate that has also put a damper on his value. The Athletics rookie has walked 22 batters in 26 career innings against lefties. He uses his changeup much more frequently against lefties, but he hasn't commanded the pitch well.
While Straily can continue to provide strikeouts, he'll be like a right-handed Felix Doubront -- too wild to provide any real benefit from his high K-rate. He's worth stashing in deeper leagues in the event that he resolves this issue, but there aren't signs of Straily turning his season around in the immediate future.

Cozart is hitting .206/.233/.338 in 160 at-bats. He has been hitting second for the Reds most of the season. With Shin-Soo Choo also out, the Reds will go with a different 1-2 punch at the top of the order. Cesar Izturis will replace Cozart, and hit second.

Hechavarria has failed to steal a base this season, but he does play every day and seems to be getting more comfortable in the second spot of the batting order. Additionally, he's eligible at shortstop and third base. I wouldn't drop a Rickie Weeks for him in a mixed league, but an NL-only owner may want to look a little deeper at the 24-year-old's recent production and consider Hechavarria for a middle infield spot.

Choo has been strong with a .309/.456/.549 line in 162 at-bats. He will be replaced by Shane Robinson, who will hit leadoff. He should return to the lineup Tuesday against Mets' starter Jonathon Niese.

"He's definitely been one of our hotter hitters," manager John Gibbons said to MLB.com. "We've had him in the five spot when (J.P.) Arencibia's playing, and Arencibia's not playing today."

Middlebrooks strikes out a lot, but he balances it with nice power (eight home runs in 160 at-bats this year) and a shot at a decent average (he hit .288 last year). With plenty of owners having been frustrated at Middlebrooks' lack of production this year, now is the time to hope his recent production has gone unnoticed and sneak in a seemingly-minor deal for the 24-year-old. The upside could be 20-plus home runs the rest of the way, with a .275-ish average.
