by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5:23 pm ET) Athletics utility man Ben Zobrist is continuing his rehab assignment Friday and will play a full nine innings in left field for Triple-A Nashville. Zobrist will then be the designated hitter on Saturday and play second base on Sunday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle

The team has not revealed any next steps past Sunday, though previous reports indicated that Zobrist, who is coming back from a knee injury, was expected to be activated on Monday, which still remains possible.

No surgery for Athletics OF Coco Crisp; DL still in question
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5:16 pm ET) Surgery has been ruled out for Athletics outfielder Coco Crisp's neck, as that could potentially end his career, manager Bob Melvin told reporters Friday, per the Bay Area News Group. Melvin added that a decision has not been made on whether the club will place Crisp on the disabled list or not.

Crisp initially injured his neck in May of 2014 after colliding into the outfield wall. He aggravated the injury on Aug. 29 following another collision with the wall, before the issue flared up again this season.

Crisp has just two hits in his first 45 at-bats this season.

White Sox P Carlos Rodon will not pitch Monday, manager says

Rodon was scheduled to start next on Monday in Toronto, but that will now go to Hector Noesi, according to ESPN.com. The team has not revealed when Rodon will make his next start.

Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt back in lineup, bats third
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5:01 pm ET) Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, who was rested on Thursday, is back in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs. But, Goldschmidt is not batting in his typical clean-up spot.

Instead, he will bat third for the first time this year, while third baseman Yasmany Tomas hits fourth. Tomas got off to a slow start at the plate following his promotion on April 15. But he's been red-hot lately, going 14 for 32 with three doubles and a home run over his last nine games.

Report: Rangers considered bringing up Josh Hamilton on Friday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:59 pm ET) The Rangers considered promoting Josh Hamilton from the minors after placing Kyle Blanks on the disabled list, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. But they wanted Hamilton to reach 45-50 at-bats before bringing him up. He has just 39 at this point.

The plan to restart his Texas career early next week in Cleveland still appears viable. He's on a seven-game hitting streak at Triple-A Round Rock.
