Report: Twins working on exension with Kurt Suzuki
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12:02 pm ET) Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki has been mentioned in trade rumors leading up to the deadline, but the team has actually been busy working to get him a contract extension, according to FOXSports.com.

Suzuki was an All-Star this season and is hitting .304/.367/.386 while working on one-year deal. According to the report, there is a "reasonable chance" the extension gets done and Suzuki is not traded.

Jedd Gyorko 'pretty comfortable' since return from DL
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:56 am ET) Padres second baseman Jedd Gyorko has five RBI in his last two games since returning from the disabled list. That equals the total he compiled in 21 games before he landed on the DL.

Gyorko homered, doubled and singled with four RBI in a Wednesday night rout of St. Louis. He is 6 for 11 since coming back.

"It's more of a fresh shart than anything," Gyorko told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "What happened at the beginning, you can't go back and change it and you can't say it didn't happen either - it's there. It's not something I like to think about a whole lot, but it's something you can learn from. Obviously, things weren't right, but I think I've gotten to the point where I'm pretty comfortable now."

Gyorko made a splash in 2013 with 23 home runs. He has a long way to go to make his 2014 numbers respectable - he is still saddled with a stat line of .171/.224/.276.

Report: David Price trade becoming more likely
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11:42 am ET) With the first domino falling prior to the trade deadline with the Red Sox moving Jon Lester Thursday morning, the chances of the biggest domino going down have increased. According to FOXSports.com, talks for Rays pitcher David Price have intensified in the hours leading up to the deadline.

According to the report, the chances of the Rays moving Price have increased over the last 12 hours, though it does not appear as if any potential deal is imminent.

Denard Span has improved plate discipline in July
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11:40 am ET) Nationals outfielder Denard Span's on-base percentage has been on the rise in July. It has gone from .312 at the start of the month to .348 through Wednesday's game at Miami, and a large reason for the improvement has been because of the 16 walks Span has drawn in 23 games this month.

"I think it just comes from being in a good position to hit," Span said, per The Washington Post. "Obviously that results in me seeing the ball better. It’s been a good feeling because I haven’t walked like this in a while. I know that this is something I’m capable of doing. My walks have been down the last three or four years. It’s just good that I’ve been able to see a lot of pitches and confident to hit with two strikes and just trusting myself just to get into deeper counts."

Span is also batting .363 (33 for 91) in July, which has helped boost his average from .265 to .288.

"I’m in a pretty good position to hit," Span said. "I think that’s allowing me to see the ball a lot sooner, a lot better and lay off some good pitchers’ pitches, and put the balls in play that are strikes."

Report: Andrew Miller likely to move Thursday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11:29 am ET) The Red Sox are expected to move pitcher Andrew Miller before Thursday's deadline, according to baseball analyst Jim Duquette.

The Red Sox have received heavy interest in Miller's services, and are in sell mode after unloading big pieces earlier in the day. Miller has become a dominant piece out of the bullpen for the Red Sox, posting a 2.34 ERA in 42 1/3 innings. He is a free agent this offseason.

Report: Phillies, Royals talking trade for A.J. Burnett
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11:28 am ET) The Phillies are talking to the Royals about trading starting pitcher A.J. Burnett, sources told FOX Sports. However, there is no indication a deal is close to being completed.

Emilio Bonifacio still sidelined as trade rumors swirl
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:22 am ET) Cubs second baseman Emilio Bonifacio remains out of the lineup Thursday against the visiting Rockies as rumors continue to swirl that he will be dealt before the deadline.

Bonifacio has been linked to San Francisco, Baltimore and Cincinnati. Any suitor would be snagging a hot hitter. Bonifacio is 13 of 35 with five runs scored in his last eight games.

Tommy Millone reports to Triple-A for A's
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11:20 am ET) Newly acquired Twins pitcher Tommy Milone will report to Triple-A Rochester, the team announced Thursday.

Milone was acquired from the Athletics in a deadline-day deal for Sam Fuld. He had a 6.43 ERA in four starts for Triple-A Sacramento prior to the trade, but was 6-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 96 1/3 innings for the A's prior to the trade.

Kennys Vargas gets the call Thursday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11:12 am ET) The Twins have called up first base prospect Kennys Vargas Thursday to replace Sam Fuld on the active roster, as first reported by FOXSports.com.

Vargas, a 23-year-old, has 17 home runs at Double-A New Britain this season, after hitting 19 at Class A a year ago. He is hitting .281/.360/.472 in 356 at-bats overall.

Athletics re-acquire Sam Fuld for Tommy Milone
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11:08 am ET) The Twins have traded outfielder Sam Fuld to the Athletics in exchange for pitcher Tommy Milone Thursday, according to FOXSports.com.

Fuld, who was actually waived by the A's earlier in the season, has been solid when healthy for the Twins. He is hitting .274/.370/.354 in 164 at-bats, with 26 walks to 29 strikeouts.
