Twins' Torii Hunter slugs first home run Sunday

(5:32 pm ET) Twins right fielder Torii Hunter slugged his first home run in his team's 7-2 win over the Indians, finishing the day 1 for 5 with three RBI.

Hunter extended a 4-1 lead by homering with two men on base in the sixth inning. It was just the third extra-base hit of the season for Hunter, who has hit .225/.256/.350 with six RBI in 40 at-bats.


Rays' Matt Andriese knocked out of Sunday's loss

(5:31 pm ET) Matt Andriese made his second start of the season for the Rays and again didn't make it out of the fourth inning. 

Andriese took the loss on Sunday against the Yankees, allowing four runs in three and a third innings. He allowed eight hits and two walks, while striking out one. Andriese threw 39 strikes in 63 pitches. His ERA increased to 6.75. 

Andriese's next start is Friday, against Toronto's R.A. Dickey. 


Twins' Trevor May tosses six one-run innings in win Sunday

(5:28 pm ET) Twins pitcher Trevor May gave up just one earned run on four hits in six innings while striking out four and walking none in his team's 7-2 win over the Indians Sunday.

May (1-1) struggled in his first start of the season but bounced back nicely Sunday, with the only damage coming on three straight two-out singles in the third inning. He owns a 4.76 ERA and 8:1 K:BB ratio in 11 1/3 innings heading into Saturday's matchup with the Mariners.


Andrew Miller saves fourth game of year for Yankees

(5:28 pm ET) Yankees closer Andrew Miller saved his fourth game of the year in Sunday's win. 

Miller pitched a scoreless ninth, allowing one hit and striking out three. He has not allowed a run this season and has given up two hits in six innings pitched. 


Padres reliever Joaquin Benoit notches first save of 2015

(5:28 pm ET) Padres reliever Joaquin Benoit notched his first save of 2015 with a scoreless ninth inning against the Cubs on Sunday.

Benoit retired the first two batters of the frame before allowing two infield hits. He then struck out Jorge Soler to end the game.

Indians' T.J. House allows five runs in loss vs. Twins

(5:26 pm ET) Indians pitcher T.J. House surrendered five earned runs on seven hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings while striking out two to take the loss in his team's 7-2 defeat against the Twins Sunday.

House (0-2) has been knocked around in each of his two starts this season. The Twins were able to score three runs in the second inning, another in the fourth and three more in the sixth, one of which was charged to the starter. He has posted a 14.14 ERA and 4:5 K:BB ratio in seven innings across two starts.

House will be looking to bounce back Saturday against the Tigers.


Yankees' Michael Pineda earns second win of year

(5:22 pm ET) Yankees starter Michael Pineda moved to 2-0 on the season, helping New York finish a three-game sweep of Tampa Bay on Sunday. 

Pineda allowed three runs in five and two thirds innings. He allowed seven hits, including a two-run home run by Steven Souza Jr.

Pineda walked one and struck out five. He threw 58 strikes in 92 pitches and lowered his ERA to 5.00. He next pitches Friday, against the Mets and Jacob deGrom.  


Starter Jon Lester takes loss on Sunday, still winless as a Cub

(5:18 pm ET) Cubs starting pitcher Jon Lester (0-2) gave up three earned runs in six innings to fall to the Padres on Sunday.

The Padres got two of their three runs off Lester in the second inning, courtesy of a two-run homer from Will Middlebrooks.

Lester struck out four and walked two and threw 97 pitches in the loss.

Lester will try for his first win as a Cub on Friday in Cincinnati.

Padres' Andrew Cashner goes five-strong innings for first victory

(5:17 pm ET) Padres starter Andrew Cashner (1-2) allowed two runs, non earned, on five hits in five innings on Sunday to defeat the Cubs for his first win of the season.

Cashner struck out five in the win.

The Cubs scored both of their unearned runs off Cashner in the first inning.

Cashner will try to even up his record Friday against the Dodgers.

Jose Abreu hits RBI triple for White Sox in loss

(5:14 pm ET) Jose Abreu drove in the White Sox's only run of Sunday's loss to Detroit with an RBI triple in the sixth inning. 

Abreu went 1 for 3, raising his average to .256. He hit his first triple of the year and drove in his seventh run.
