Kennys Vargas gets the call Thursday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11:12 am ET) The Twins have called up first base prospect Kennys Vargas Thursday to replace Sam Fuld on the active roster, as first reported by FOXSports.com.

Vargas, a 23-year-old, has 17 home runs at Double-A New Britain this season, after hitting 19 at Class A a year ago. He is hitting .281/.360/.472 in 356 at-bats overall.

Athletics re-acquire Sam Fuld for Tommy Milone
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11:08 am ET) The Twins have traded outfielder Sam Fuld to the Athletics in exchange for pitcher Tommy Milone Thursday, according to FOXSports.com.

Fuld, who was actually waived by the A's earlier in the season, has been solid when healthy for the Twins. He is hitting .274/.370/.354 in 164 at-bats, with 26 walks to 29 strikeouts.

Report: Dallas Keuchel staying with Astros
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11:07 am ET) The Astros have taken starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel off the trade market, sources told FOX Sports. The left-hander is 1-1 with a 0.56 ERA in his last two starts after going 1-3 with a 6.07 ERA in his previous five starts.

Astros not making Chad Qualls available pre-deadline
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11:06 am ET) The Astros have informed inquiring teams that closer Chad Qualls is not available ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

The Astros have received plenty of interest in the 35-year-old, who is under contract for just $3 million next season. He has a 3.19 ERA and 11 saves in 15 chances this season.

Phillies asking for top prospects in exchange for Marlon Byrd
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:05 am ET) It won't be easy for teams to land Phillies slugger Marlon Byrd at the trading deadline. The team is asking for top prospects, according to CBSSports Baseball Insider Jon Heyman, who is further reporting that interested parties are asking the team to lower its price.

The Yankees, Royals and Mariners have all shown an interest in Byrd, who is enjoying one of his finest seasons and is on pace for career-highs in home runs with 31 and RBI with 92.

Astros 'very, very busy' fielding calls about Jarred Cosart
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11:01 am ET) The Astros are "very, very busy" fielding calls about starting pitcher Jarred Cosart, sources told FOX Sports.

If Cosart is traded, it will not be the first time he was dealt on or near the non-waiver trade deadline. Cosart was a key piece in the July 2011 trade that sent Hunter Pence to the Phillies in exchange for Cosart, Jon Singleton, Josh Zeid and a player to be named later, which eventually was Domingo Santana.

Report: Twins acquire Tommy Milone from busy Athletics
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10:58 am ET) The Athletics promise to be very busy ahead of the trade deadline, and they made another move Thursday, agreeing to trade pitcher Tommy Milone to the Twins, according to FOXSports.com.

Milone has been pushed out of the Athletics' crowded rotation, but had a 3.55 ERA in 96 1/3 innings before he was sent to the minors. Details of the return to Oakland are not yet known.

Joe Kelly blames struggles on poor fastball command
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:55 am ET) Cardinals starting pitcher Joe Kelly suffered his first loss in four starts since coming off the disabled list Wednesday at San Diego. However, he's struggled for the most part since his activation despite the one loss.

The right-hander has posted a 7.32 ERA over his last four starts, and Kelly said his struggles have been related to poor command of his fastball, per MLB.com.

"It's running a lot," Kelly said of the pitch. "It's just something that I have to learn how to control here and be better at next time. I've been throwing good offspeed pitches, I feel, in all these games. My curveball was my best pitch (Wednesday). I should have thrown it 100 times. But you can't do that, obviously. It definitely all starts with the fastball."

Alex Rios, Neal Cotts likely on move from Texas
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10:53 am ET) The Rangers are expected to be very active ahead of Thursday's non-waiver trade deadline, FOXSports.com reports.

According to the report, the Rangers were aggressively trying to move outfielder Alex Rios and reliever Neal Cotts Thursday morning. Both players have been linked to trade rumors leading up to the deadline, with the Rangers well out of the race during an injury-plagued season.

Report: Bartolo Colon going nowhere
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:49 am ET) Bartolo Colon appears all but set to remain with the Mets after the trading deadline, according to the New York Post.

The 41-year-old right-hander is owed about $3 million this season and $11 million in 2015. The Mets would vastly prefer any suitor pick up the entirety of that contract. A team insider told the Post that the Mets are hoping not to assume any of that money even if it results in a better prospect coming back.

Colon has performed well since late May after a terrible start to the year. He is 8-3 since May 12 and has lowered his ERA from 5.84 to 3.88 since that time.
