Mets shortstop Juan Lagares post 4 for 4 day in win Saturday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(1:32 am ET) Mets shortstop Juan Lagares went an impressive 4 for 4 at the plate in New York's 8-2 win over the Yankees Saturday. Lagares, who also scored three times, boosted his average to .296 on the year and credits his recent success to staying patient at the plate, according to MLB.com.

"I just try to do too much sometimes," Lagares said. "When I swing at strikes, I get good results. That's it. It's a great feeling. It's one of those days when you feel good out there and make good swings."

Manager Terry Collins has also been impressed with Lagares' recent success and wants to move him up in the order.

"I don't necessarily think Juan is an RBI guy," Collins said. "I think when he starts to have good at-bats, he's a top-of-the-order guy, which we hope to get him back in that spot."

(1:13 am ET) Rockies right fielder Carlos Gonzalez went 1 for 5 at the plate in Colorado's 5-4 loss to the Giants Saturday in 11 innings.

Gonzalez did his only damage in the sixth inning when he ripped a 1-0 pitch from Tim Hudson over the center field wall for a solo home run, his second of the season. Gonzalez boosted his average to .197 with six RBI in 66 at-bats this season.

Twins shortstop Eduardo Escobar cracks first home run of the year
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(1:07 am ET) Twins shortstop Eduardo Escobar went 1 for 5 at the plate in Minnesota's 8-5 win over the Mariners Saturday.

Escobar did his only damage in the fourth inning when he ripped a 3-2 pitch off James Paxton over the left center field wall for a solo home run, his first of the season. Escobar, who also struck out twice, boosted his average to .171 in 35 at-bats this season.

Padres RHP Ian Kennedy mashed in return from injury
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12:57 am ET) Perhaps Padres right-hander Ian Kennedy should get a mulligan for his disastrous start Saturday against the Dodgers. After all, it was his first outing after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Kennedy was clobbered for eight earned runs on eight hits, including three homers, in 4 1/3 innings. He walked one and fanned two.

The Dodgers teed off from the start as Andre Ethier socked a two-run blast and Carl Crawford added a run-scoring double in the first inning. A three-run tater by Adrian Gonzalez in the second gave Los Angeles a 6-3 lead. Kennedy also surrendered a two-run homer to Howie Kendrick in the fifth before his merciful removal.

He will have his first shot at redemption Friday against visiting Colorado.

Mariners outfielder Austin Jackson rips second home run of the year
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(12:56 am ET) Mariners outfielder Austin Jackson went 2 for 5 at the plate in Seattle's 8-5 win over the Twins Saturday.

Jackson found success in the fifth inning when he doubled to left field off of Tim Stauffer, but was left stranded after Seth Smith flied out to end the inning. Then, Jackson ripped an 0-1 pitch off Aaron Thompson over the left center field wall for a two-run home run.

Jackson is now hitting .275 with four RBI in 69 at-bats this season.

Twins closer Glen Perkins notches fourth save of the year
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(12:52 am ET) Twins closer Glen Perkins worked a nearly perfect ninth inning in Minnesota's 8-5 win over the Mariners Saturday, leading to his fourth save of the season.

Perkins allowed one hit on an infield single by Willie Bloomquist, but finished things off by getting Austin Jackson to groundout to third base. Perkins lowered his ERA to 1.29 in seven innings of work with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Rockies closer Adam Ottavino remains perfect Saturday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12:47 am ET) Rockies closer Adam Ottavino did his job Saturday night. If his bat-wielding teammates had done the same, he might have earned a victory against San Francisco.

Ottavino pitched a scoreless tenth inning, allowing a walk and hit before getting Brandon Belt to ground out. The right-hander maintained his perfect 0.00 ERA in the process through 10 appearances. He has given up just three hits in 10 1/3 innings on the year.
