Astros 3B Luis Valbuena unleashes seventh HR of season

(12:41 am ET) Astros third baseman Luis Valbuena was the lone bright spot in his team's 7-1 defeat to Texas on Tuesday.

Valbuena launched a solo home run in the opening frame off starter Wandy Rodriguez for Houston's only run of the night. He finished 1 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, raising his batting average from .209 to .211 on the year. He has seven homers, 11 RBI and owns a .276 on-base percentage in 24 games.


Mets manager Terry Collins committed to Wilmer Flores at shortstop

(12:40 am ET) The Mets are committed to Wilmer Flores at shortstop, despite his seven errors in 27 games, and manager Terry Collins recently told him so, reports the New York Post.

“I told him today, ‘Fresh start, Day 1. Let’s get after it, and be the player we know you can be,'" Collins said.

Flores performed like that player Tuesday night, lashing a key double off the wall in left field as part of the Mets’ three-run fourth inning that led to a 3-2 victory over the Orioles at Citi Field.

Rangers DH Prince Fielder plates two runs in win over Astros

(12:37 am ET) Rangers designated hitter Prince Fielder made his presence felt at the plate during Tuesday's 7-1 victory over Houston.

Fielder doubled in a pair of runs in the opening frame off starter Scott Feldman for his only hit of the evening. He finished 1 for 4 with two RBI, extending his modest hitting streak to five games. He is hitting .350 (36 for 103) with four homers, 13 RBI and a .407 on-base percentage through his first 26 games.


Rangers LF Carlos Peguero cranks first HR of season

(12:34 am ET) Rangers left fielder Carlos Peguero went deep for his first home run of the season Tuesday night against Houston.

Peguero took Scott Feldman deep for a two-run home run in the opening frame. He reached base twice and finished 1 for 3 with a walk, a run scored and two RBI in a 7-1 victory. He is hitting .184 (7 for 38) with seven RBI and a .367 on-base percentage in 19 games.


Rangers' Kyle Blanks collects three hits, including HR vs. Houston

(12:30 am ET) Rangers first baseman Kyle Blanks continued to swing a hot bat, collecting three hits, including a home run in Tuesday's 7-1 win over Houston. 

Blanks took Kevin Chapman deep in the fifth inning for a solo home run. He added a pair of singles and finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Over his last five games, Blanks is hitting .450 (9 for 20) with two walks, a double, three homers and five RBI.


Astros' Springer getting tested for concussion after wall-crashing catch

(12:23 am ET) Astros right fielder George Springer banged his head on the outfield wall while making another phenomenal catch during Tuesday's 7-1 defeat to Texas. The wall-crashing catch occurred in the seventh inning, and was removed for Jonathan Villar to star the eighth inning.

He finished 0 for 3 with a strikeout, and will be evaluated for a concussion, according to the team'f official website.

"That was a scary play. He’s pretty banged up…evaluated for concussion and see how his body feels overnight," manager A.J. Hinch said following the game.


Astros' Scott Feldman gets roughed up in loss to Texas

(12:14 am ET) Astros pitcher Scott Feldman was roughed up and charged with his third loss of the season Tuesday night against Texas.

Feldman (2-3) allowed four runs in the opening frame, including a two-run home run to Carlos Peguero. He coughed up six earned runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out two over three innings of a 7-1 defeat. Of his 77 pitches, 45 were strikes.

Feldman's ERA ballooned from 4.31 to 5.50 after Tuesday's disastrous start. He will look to pick up the pieces Sunday against the Angels in Anaheim.


Rangers' Rodriguez goes eight strong, retires final 19 batters in win

(12:08 am ET) Rangers pitcher Wandy Rodriguez went eight innings strong and retired the final 19 batters he faced in his club's 7-1 win over the Astros on Tuesday.

Rodriguez (1-1), who picked up his first win since May 26, 2013, was charged with one earned run on three hits and one walk while striking out eight over eight innings of work for the win. Of his 104 pitches, 71 were strikes. It was his longest start since May 13, 2012.

Rodriguez has allowed one earned run in two of his first three starts this season. He will look for his second win of the season Sunday in Tampa Bay.


Anthony Rizzo goes 3 for 4 in Cubs' loss

(12:02 am ET) Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo went 3 for 4 in Tuesday's loss to St. Louis. Rizzo extended his hitting streak to six games and lifted his batting average to .333.

Rizzo scored twice and hit his fifth double of the season.  


Twins' Trevor May pegged with tough-luck loss vs. A's

(12:02 am ET) Twins pitcher Trevor May reached 101 pitches for the first time this season, but it wasn't enough as he dropped his second decision of the season Tuesday night against the A's.

May (2-2) allowed a run-scoring single to Billy Butler in the opening frame, and another run-scoring single to Brett Lawrie in the sixth inning for his only damage of the night. He was charged with two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three over 5 2/3 innings of a tough-luck 2-1 defeat.

May has not allowed more than two earned runs over each of his last four starts. He will look to get back in the win column Sunday in Cleveland.
