Tigers SS Jose Iglesias (knee) still can't start on Wednesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(1:03 pm ET) Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday against the A's. Iglesias will miss his fourth straight game while nursing a sore knee. The Tigers maintain he is day-to-day, but they have not indicated when they expect Iglesias to return to the lineup.

Dixon Machado gets the start at shortstop and will bat eighth on Wednesday.

Mets planning to use six-man rotation into August
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12:59 pm ET) Once Dillon Gee joins the Mets rotation after his last rehab start Wednesday for Double-A Binghamton, the team plans to go to a six-man rotation through at least early August, pitching coach Dan Warthen said Wednesday.

Warthen said the goal is to have the starters make roughly 30 starts instead of the usual 33 during the regular season. The team also wants to be conservative with some of the younger arms -- Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard. The other two pitchers in the rotation are veterans Bartolo Colon and Jonathon Niese.

"It is better for the player. It's better for the organization, at least, until we get to where we feel like we have plenty of innings left in September and still have the possibility of innings left in October," Warthen said, per ESPN.

"Our No. 1 concern is our pitchers, and our pitchers staying healthy. We have some other [young] ones -- [prospect Steven] Matz is coming along. We're going to have Syndergaard here, deGrom here, Harvey here. Those are the guys who are the big concerns. As for the other guys, they have to go along with it. It's going to only prolong their careers. From the organization's standpoint, from my standpoint, I think it's a smart thing to do."

Report: Mets trade outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis to Angels
by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer
(12:55 pm ET) The Mets have traded outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis to the Angels, a source told Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com.

Mets assistant general manager John Rico previously made it known that the team was actively shopping Nieuwenhuis. If the team would have failed to find a suitor for Nieuwenhuis, it would have passed him through waivers.

Nieuwenhuis has three hits in 38 at-bats this season.

A's SS Marcus Semien gets day off Wednesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(12:09 pm ET) Athletics shortstop Marcus Semien is getting the day off and is being held out of the lineup Wednesday against the Tigers. Semien is mired in a 7-for-38 slump over his last 10 games, and has played in every game this season.

Eric Sogard will spell Semien at shortstop and bat ninth on Wednesday afternoon.

Royals' Rios to play two more Triple-A games before possible return
by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer
(12:02 pm ET) Royals right fielder Alex Rios will play for the club's Triple-A affiliate for the next two days before the team decides whether to activate him for Friday's game against the Cubs, per The Kansas City Star.

Rios is working his way back into form after fracturing his left hand. Before the injury, he was 9 for 28 with a home run, eight RBI and two stolen bases.

Rangers option 1B/OF Jake Smolinski to Triple-A
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(12:02 pm ET) The Rangers have optioned first baseman/outfielder Jake Smolinski to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday. Smolinski has been up and down with the team this year, and has had limited playing time due to the returns of Mitch Moreland and Josh Hamilton and the emergence of Delino DeShields.

Smolinski is 8 for 53 with a home run and six RBI for the Rangers in 2015. The team recalled pitcher Jon Edwards from Triple-A to take his place on the roster.

Red Sox using six-man rotation to give starters rest
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:58 am ET) Without an off-day on Thursday, Red Sox manager John Farrell wanted to give his starters an extra day's rest heading into the weekend. So, the team will call up prospect Eduardo Rodriguez to start Thursday's game against the Rangers, with the rest of the rotation being pushed back a day.

Steven Wright, who was originally scheduled to go on Thursday, will now pitch Friday. He will be followed by Wade Miley and Joe Kelly. Clay Buchholz will open the three-game set with the Twins at home on Monday.

The Red Sox don't have a scheduled off-day until June 8.

Red Sox manager: Eduardo Rodriguez will start Thursday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:49 am ET) In order to give his pitchers an extra day of rest, Red Sox manager John Farrell said prospect Eduardo Rodriguez will get the start on Thursday against the Rangers.

Rodriguez is being called up from Triple-A to start Thursday, and Farrell said he will get the one start for now, according to the Boston Herald. Though it remains to be seen if the team in fact sends him down after Thursday.

Red Sox OF Rusney Castillo sits Wednesday with sore shoulder
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:41 am ET) Red Sox outfielder Rusney Castillo is out of Wednesday's lineup against the Twins due to a sore right shoulder. Castillo jammed the shoulder while diving to make a catch in Tuesday's game. At this point, there are no talks of a possible trip to the disabled list, but there is no timetable for his return to the lineup.

Castillo is hitting .200 (3 for 15) in four games since being recalled from Triple-A.

Rangers to recall RP Jon Edwards on Wednesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:38 am ET) The Rangers are recalling right-hander Jon Edwards from Triple-A on Wednesday. Edwards had a brief stint with the big club this season, making one relief appearance without recording an out. In 2014, he appeared in nine games for the Rangers, allowing four earned runs in 8 1/3 innings.

He's made 18 relief outings with Round Rock this season, owning a 1.15 ERA in 15 2/3 innings.
