Casey Janssen set to miss two more weeks
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(7:42 pm ET) Blue Jays reliever Casey Janssen is expected to miss at least the next two weeks because of a strained muscle in his abdomen and lower back region, MLB.com reports Friday. Jason Bartlett makes surprise retirement announcement
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(7:34 pm ET) Twins shortstop Jason Bartlett, who began a rehab stint Thursday with Class A Fort Myers, told manager Doug Mientkiewicz an hour before Friday's game he will retire, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. The 34-year-old finished his 10-year career with a .270/.336/.366 slash line, with 31 homers and 286 RBI in 892 games played.

A's maintain status quo with closer situation
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(7:25 pm ET) Athletics manager Bob Melvin re-iterated that his closer situation remains "status quo," meaning he'll continue his closer-by-committee approach, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area reports.

Jim Johnson started the season as the closer, but lost the job on April 10. Since losing his role as the ninth inning man, he has since allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out five over five scoreless frames.

Since Johnson lost his role, Luke Gregerson is 2 for 3 in save chances with a 1.93 ERA over 4 2/3 innings pitched. Sean Doolittle is 1 for 2 in save opportunities, and has allowed two runs over 3 1/3 innings since April 10.

Carlos Quentin will move to extended spring next
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(7:19 pm ET) Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin is not yet ready to begin a minor-league rehab assignment, but he is making progress in his recovery from a knee injury otherwise. According to MLB.com, Quentin will head to the team's facility in Arizona for extended spring training work, the final step before he moves on to playing in minor-league games.

Mets receive Zack Thornton, PTBNL for Ike Davis
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6:57 pm ET) The Pirates have agreed to send minor-league pitcher Zack Thornton and a player to be named later back to the Mets in exchange for first baseman Ike Davis, the team announced Friday.

Thornton has yet to appear in the majors, but has seen success as a reliever in the minors. He has a 3.31 ERA at Triple-A, and has struck out 285 batters to just 63 walks in 252 1/3 career innings in the minors.

Jimmy Paredes gets the call
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Mets, Pirates agree to Ike Davis trade
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6:50 pm ET) The Mets and Pirates have agreed to a trade that will send first baseman Ike Davis to Pittsburgh, reports CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. The Mets received minor-league reliever Zack Thornton and a player to be named later in exchange for Davis.

The Mets waited until right before first pitch Friday to get the deal agreed to, and it appears likely that Davis' roster spot will be filled by the activation of Chris Young from the disabled list.

Craig Kimbrel good to go Friday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6:47 pm ET) Braves reliever Craig Kimbrel is healthy enough to pitch Friday against the Mets, after missing the team's previous four games with shoulder soreness. He told a local sports radio station he is good to go Friday, and will pitch in the event of a save situation.

Kimbrel has been effective when healthy this season, allowing just one run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings, with five saves and 12 strikeouts.

David Robertson on track to pitch in simulated game Saturday
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(6:40 pm ET) Yankees closer David Robertson made it through his fielding drills Friday without any issues, and he's scheduled to play in an extended spring training game in Tampa on Saturday, The Journal News reports.

Robertson was placed on the disabled list on April 7 due to a groin strain and remains on track to return from the disabled list, when eligible, Tuesday against the Red Sox

Chris Young back from DL, in the lineup Friday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6:34 pm ET) Mets outfielder Chris Young is in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Braves, his first game back from a quad injury that landed him on the disabled list.

Young appeared in just one game before suffering the injury, logging one inning of action in the field. He will likely be part of the outfielder rotation moving forward, after hitting .667/.714/1.333 in three minor-league rehab games at Triple-A Las Vegas.
