Diamondbacks CF A.J. Pollock collects four hits Friday

(1:35 am ET) Diamondbacks center fielder A.J. Pollock had his first four-hit game of the season to lead the Diamondbacks to a 9-0 win over the Giants on Friday.

Pollock went 4 for 5 with one walk and a strikeout. His lone RBI came in the top of the ninth inning when he drove in pitcher Josh Collmenter on a double. Pollock was able to raise his batting average from .265 to .333.


Red Sox's Pablo Sandoval not sorry about slide that lead to beaning

(1:33 am ET) Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez was ejected Friday for hitting Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval with a pitch as suspected payback for a hard slide by Sandoval earlier in the game, according to BostonHerald.com.

"It’s the game ... I do clean slides," Sandoval said. "I slide through the base. There’s nothing wrong with that.”

First baseman Mike Napoli added that Sandoval’s slide was in line with the way the Red Sox like to play.

Giants P Jake Peavy fails to get past fourth inning Friday

(1:30 am ET) Giants pitcher Jake Peavy was able to get through the first two innings of Friday's loss to the Diamondbacks without any trouble, but he began to unravel in the third.

Peavy surrendered four hits and three runs during the third inning. He returned for the fourth, but was only able to record two outs before he was taken out of the game.

Over the 3 2/3 innings of work, Peavy gave up four runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out two.

Peavy has yet to get past the fourth inning in each of his two starts this season. He is now 0-2 with a 9.39 ERA.

His next scheduled start is expected to be Thursday against the Dodgers


Royals SS Alcides Escobar suffers knee injury Friday

(1:25 am ET) Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar sustained a mild strain and contusion to his left knee during Friday's win over the Athletics, reports MLB.com.

Escobar was hurt when A's third baseman Brett Lawrie slid into him at second base while attempting to break up a double play in the seventh inning. The incident led to both benches clearing. Escobar immediately left the game.

After the game, Lawrie insisted he wasn't trying to injure Escobar.

"I would never try to cleat anybody," Lawrie said. "It wasn't like I overextended myself to go get him. He was right on top of the bag. That's just baseball right there."


Indians LF Michael Brantley (back) returns Friday with two hits

(1:24 am ET) Indians left fielder Michael Brantley (back) returned to the lineup on Friday after missing four games with a bad back, going 2 for 5 as the designated hitter.

Brantley had been out since April 10 with a back injury.

Mariners starter J.A. Happ handed first defeat on Friday

(1:20 am ET) Mariners starter J.A. Happ (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings against the Rangers.

Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos touched Happ for a home run.

Happ will look to even his record in his next start Wednesday against the Astros.


Rangers starter Yovani Gallardo goes six strong to earn win on Friday

(1:16 am ET) Rangers starter Yovani Gallardo (2-1) did not allow a run in six innings against the Mariners on Friday to pick up the win.

Gallardo struck out three and walked two.

Gallardo's next start is scheduled for Wedneday in Arizona.

Yankees reliever Dellin Betances off to strong start in 2015

(12:55 am ET) After a shaky spring training, Yankees reliever Dellin Betances has begun 2015 strongly as the 6-8 righty notched the win for the Yankees on Friday in Tampa.

In five appearances this season, Betances is 2-0 with six strike outs and has not allowed an earned run in 5 1/3 innings.

Twins SS Eduardo Escobar leave Friday's game with foot injury

(12:54 am ET) Twins shortstop Eduardo Escobar was hit by a pitch on his foot, which forced him to leave Friday's win over Indians, reports MLB.com.

Escobar was hit by Corey Kluber during the eight inning of the game and he was replaced by pinch-runner Shane Robinson.


Yankees INF Stephen Drew joins 100-HR club on Friday

(12:46 am ET) Yankees infielder Stephen Drew also joined the 100-home run club on Friday, connecting for the milestone against Tampa.

Drew is in his 10th MLB season and is a career .256 hitter.

His highest single-season home run total is 21 (2006 for the Diamondbacks).
