Indians catcher Brett Hayes back in the starting lineup Wednesday

(3:33 pm ET) Indians catcher Brett Hayes is back in the starting lineup Wednesday against the Royals, the team announced. 

Hayes got the day off Tuesday and has been alternating with Roberto Perez behind the plate since Yan Gomes went down with an injury. Hayes is hitting .111 with four RBI in 18 at-bats this season.


Cubs' Jorge Soler batting fifth Wednesday vs. Cardinals

(3:29 pm ET) Cubs right fielder Jorge Soler has been dropped to fifth in the order for Wednesday's matchup with the Cardinals.

It's the third straight game in which Soler has been moved down in the order, as he saw his first action leading off Friday before resuming his familiar role in the second slot Saturday. After a day off, he batted cleanup in the team's matchup with a lefty Tuesday.

Soler had hit in one of the top four spots of the lineup in all of his starts this season before batting fifth Wednesday. The move down isn't due to production, as the right fielder is 6 for 17 over the last seven days.

The Cubs are underdogs (+109) against the Cardinals Wednesday.


Braves' Johnson moves to cleanup spot with Pierzynski resting

(3:28 pm ET) With A.J. Pierzynski given a breather, the Braves moved Kelly Johnson to the cleanup for Thursday's contest against the Phillies. It's the fourth time this season and the first time since
Sunday the Braves have Johnson batting fourth.

Johnson is hitting .266 (17 for 64) with two doubles, six homers and 17 RBI in 22 games. Pierzynski is hitting .344 (21 for 61) with three doubles, three homers and 14 RBI in 16 games. 

Atlanta is favored (-132) at home against Philadelphia.


Astros prospect Carlos Correa could reach majors in a few weeks

(3:20 pm ET) Astros shortstop prospect Carlos Correa may get the call to the majors very soon, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

Correa, who is currently playing in Double-A, may be called up in the next couple of weeks to Houston, according to Heyman. Correa is considered Houston's top prospect and is hitting a blistering .398 with six home runs and 28 RBI in 98 at-bats for Double-A Corpus Christi.


Rockies' Weiss on Rex Brothers: 'Control is still an issue'

(3:19 pm ET) Rockies manager Walt Weiss said Wednesday that pitcher Rex Brothers has been up and down in his stint with Triple-A Albuquerque and that "control is still an issue" with the pitcher, the Denver Post reports.

Brothers walked 6.2 batters per nine innings last season while posting a 5.59 ERA in 56 1/3 innings. He was surprisingly optioned to Triple-A before the start of this season and has given up seven earned runs on 11 hits and 11 walks in nine innings while striking out 14.


Royals CF Lorezno Cain back from suspension, starts Wednesday

(3:15 pm ET) Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain returned from his two-game suspension on Wednesday. He was in the starting lineup, batting third for manager Ned Yost. Cain was suspended for participating in the bench-clearing brawl with the White Sox that occured on April 24. 

Cain is batting .333 on the season with three home runs and 13 RBI. With Cain's return, Jarrod Dyson slides over to right field and Paulo Orlando was out of the lineup. 


Brewers' Scooter Gennett batting second Wednesday

(2:48 pm ET) Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett has been moved to the No. 2 spot in the batting order for Wednesday's matchup with the Dodgers.

Gennett returned from the disabled list Tuesday and went 1 for 3 while batting sixth, but with Tuesday's No. 2 hitter Gerardo Parra on the bench in favor of Khris Davis, Gennett is making his first start in the top third of the lineup this season. He has hit .219/.306/.219 in 32 at-bats.

The Brewers are home underdogs (+108) against the Dodgers Wednesday, per VegasInsider.com.


Cubs activate Grimm, DFA Varvaro; option Lake, Szczur to Triple-A

(2:45 pm ET) The Cubs announced several roster moves prior to Wednesday's game in St. Louis, per the team's official website. The club activated right-hander Justin Grimm off the 15-day disabled list and recalled outfielder Matt Szczur from Triple-A Iowa. Outfielder Junior Lake has been optioned to Triple-A and right-hander Anthony Varvaro has been designated for assignment.

White Sox activate, DFA reliever Javy Guerra Wednesday

(2:42 pm ET) The White Sox activated reliever Javy Guerra from the 15-day disabled list and designated him for assignment on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. 

Guerra had been rehabbing in Triple-A after recovering from a shoulder injury. He made three appearances for the White Sox before suffering the injury. He did not allow a run over his 1 2/3 innings pitched.

Last season, Guerra appeared in 42 games for the Sox, recording a 2.91 ERA with a 7.4 K/9 ratio.


Braves recall Williams Perez, option Michael Kohn

(2:41 pm ET) The Braves recalled pitcher Williams Perez from Triple-A Gwinnett and optioned pitcher Michael Kohn to the same team.

Perez has made five starts with Gwinnett, going 2-0 with a 1.33 ERA and 21:9 K:BB ratio in 27 innings. He has yet to pitch in a major-league game in the regular season.

Kohn has made six appearances with the Braves without giving up a run or a hit, but he has walked six batters while striking out four.
