Rays' Desmond Jennings leaves game Saturday with knee soreness

(10:16 pm ET) Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings was forced to leave Saturday's game against the Blue Jays with knee soreness, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Jennings left in the eighth inning after going 1 for 3 with two strikeouts. He is considered day to day with the injury. He's hitting .222 with two RBI in 63 at-bats this season.


Red Sox 1B Mike Napoli hits first homer of season

(10:14 pm ET) Mike Napoli got off the schneid on Saturday, hitting his first home run of the season on his 57th at-bat in the Red Sox loss to the Orioles.

Napoli went 3 for 4 in the game to raise his average to .143.

Orioles closer Zach Britton blows one-run lead in ninth

(10:12 pm ET) Orioles closer Zach Britton failed to hold a one-run lead in the top of the ninth inning to the Red Sox Saturday and blew his first save of the season.

Britton walked Dustin Pedroia to leadoff of the top of the ninth inning and then allowed two infield singles before third baseman Manny Machado's throwing error allowed the tying run to score.

O's starter Wei-Yin Chen goes eight strong innings but gets no-decision

(10:10 pm ET) Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen allowed two runs on four hits in eight solid innings against the Red Sox on Saturday but had to settle for a no-decision.

Mike Napoli connected off Chen for his first homer of the season.

Chen's eight innings tied his career-high for the third time.

Chen's next start is scheduled for Friday against the Rays.

Red Sox SP Justin Masterson takes no-decision on Saturday

(10:08 pm ET) Red Sox starting pitcher Justin Masterson gave up three runs on seven hits in seven innings of work on Saturday to take a no-decision against the Orioles.

Masterson gave up a solo homer to designated hitter Jimmy Paredes.

Masterson is scheduled to return to the mound Friday against the Yankees.

Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons cracks first homer of the year

(10:05 pm ET) Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons went 1 for 5 at the plate in Atlanta's 5-2 win over the Phillies Saturday. Simmons got things started in the seventh inning, ripping a David Buchanan pitch over the left center field fence for a solo shot, his first of the year.

Simmons is now hitting .270 with 11 RBI in 63 at-bats this season.


Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard smacks second homer Saturday

(10:02 pm ET) Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard went 1 for 3 at the plate Saturday in Philadelphia's 5-2 win over the Braves.

Howard did his damage in the fourth inning when he ripped an 0-1 pitch from Shelby Miller over the center field wall, scoring Jeff Francoeur, his second of the season. Howard is now hitting .189 with six RBI in 53 at-bats this season.


Report: Phillies to promote Severino Gonzalez for Tuesday start

(9:59 pm ET) Phillies pitching prospect Severino Gonzalez has been tabbed to make his major league debut Tuesday in St. Louis, the Philadelphia Inquirer has reported.

The 22-year-old Gonzalez is 1-1 with a 3.57 ERA in three starts with Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season. He has yielded 20 hits and just two walks in 17 innings with nine strikeouts.

He peaked at the Class A and Double-A levels in 2013, but struggled last season at Double-A Reno with a 9-13 mark and 4.59 ERA.


Braves pitcher Jason Grilli adds seventh save Saturday

(9:58 pm ET) Braves pitcher Jason Grilli worked a perfect ninth inning in Atlanta's 5-2 win over the Phillies Saturday, leading to his seventh save of the season. 

Grilli needed just 13 pitches to dispose of Philadelphia's hitters in the inning, including a strikeout of Ryan Howard. Grilli now boasts a 1.29 ERA with 11 strikeouts in seven innings of work.


Phillies pitcher Daivd Buchanan drops to 0-4 on the year Saturday

(9:53 pm ET) Phillies pitcher David Buchanan continued his woeful start to the 2015 season in Philadelphia's 5-2 loss to the Braves Saturday.

Buchanan allowed three runs on two hits in six 2/3 innings of work. Things were looking up for Buchanan early, when he went six scoreless to start the game. Then in the seventh, he allowed a lead off home run to Andrelton Simmons. After getting two outs, Buchanan walked the final two hitters he faced before getting the hook.

Buchanan, now 0-4 on the year, boasts a 7.52 ERA in 20 1/3 innings this season. He will look for win No. 1 Thursday against the Cardinals.
