by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Used sparingly in recent games, Brignac finished his latest stint with Philadelphia on a 0-for-14 slide.

Wei-Yin Chen to spend brief time in minors
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(3:21 pm ET) Left=hander Wei-Yin Chen has been demoted temporarily to the Gulf Coast League by the Orioles. He will not miss a major league outing, however, as he is expected to return after the rosters are expanded. Chen is scheduled to start next week against Minnesota.

Chen has struggled of late to the tune of 10 runs allowed in his last 24 innings pitched following a five-game winning streak.

Neither has played since Sunday.

David Ortiz returns to Red Sox lineup on Wednesday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(3:09 pm ET) As John Farrell indicated earlier in the day, Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is set to start Wednesday in Toronto. He had been sidelined since hurting his foot Sunday.

Ortiz is seeking to pick up where he left off - on a 17-for-33 tear in which he slugged four home runs and drove in nine.

Adam LaRoche ready to roll against Phillies
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2:59 pm ET) Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche has returned to the lineup Wednesday in Philadelphia after missing one game with a back problem.

LaRoche hopes to emerge from a slump that has limited him to just five hits in his last 33 at-bats.

Erasmo Ramirez has chance to stay in M's rotation
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

James Paxton's demotion to minors is temporary
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2:19 pm ET) The Mariners announced Wednesday they optioned starting pitcher James Paxton to Triple-A Tacoma to clear a roster spot for Erasmo Ramirez, who was recalled from the minors. However, Paxton will be recalled when rosters expand Sept. 1, and he will make his next start Tuesday against the A's.

Anthony Rizzo a no-go Wednesday with back problem
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2:19 pm ET) Cubs slugger Anthony Rizzo has been sidelined for the Wednesday night game against Cincinnati with a back ailment.

His absence is a blow to the team. Rizzo has been on a power surge with five home runs since Aug. 12. He has 10 hits in his last eight games to sweeten his stat line to .278/.375/.514.
