Jed Lowrie goes deep

(10:30 am ET) Athletics shortstop Jed Lowrie cracked his fifth homer in Wednesday's 9-7 win over the Astros. Lowrie's second-inning solo shot gave him 39 RBI this season. He's hitting .238/.318/.351 in 353 at-bats.

Mitch Moreland shifted to 60-day DL

(10:29 am ET) The Rangers cleared up a spot on the 40-man roster Thursday by moving designated hitter Mitch Moreland to the 60-day disabled list. Moreland is out for the season after undergoing ankle reconstruction surgery in June.  

Nate Adcock added to Rangers' 'pen

(10:23 am ET) The Rangers purchased the contract of pitcher Nate Adcock and added him to the bullpen Thursday, the team announced.

Adcock got off to a late start this season while recovering from surgery, but had a 2.76 ERA in 16 1/3 innings at Triple-A Round Rock prior to his call-up.  


Josh Thole on base four times

(10:22 am ET) Blue Jays catcher Josh Thole did not make an out in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Red Sox. He went 2 for 2 with a ground rule RBI double and a run scored and walked twice.

Thole, who's hitting .282 with six RBI in 85 at-bats, will continue to start whenever knuckleballer R.A. Dickey pitches.


Marwin Gonzalez dealing with hamstring issue

(10:18 am ET) Astros shortstop Marwin Gonzalez was pulled from Wednesday's game against the Athletics late, due to soreness in his right hamstring.

Despite being forced to leave, the injury is not expected to cost Gonzalez much time. He has been dealing with the injury over the last few games, and is expected back in the lineup Thursday, as manager Bo Porter told the Houston Chronicle


Desmond Jennings bangs out three hits

(10:15 am ET) Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings went 3 for 5 with a double and two runs scored in Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Cardinals, upping his average to .248/.336/.390. The leadoff batter is up to 52 runs scored and 25 doubles this season.

Neftali Feliz returning to former role as Rangers' closer

(10:08 am ET) The trade of Joakim Soria has created an opening at closer for the Rangers, and the team has decided to return Neftali Feliz to his former role.

The 26-year-old reliever, whose career was derailed in 2012 due to Tommy John surgery, has 74 career saves, including a career-high 40 in 2010.

"We'll give him a shot, he is the only one with experience," Rangers manager Ron Washington said, per MLB.com. "It will show if he can or he can't."


CC Sabathia's surgery goes 'as planned'

(10:07 am ET) The Yankees announced that pitcher CC Sabathia's knee surgery Wednesday went "as planned," reports the New York Daily News. The 34-year-old lefty aims to be back for the start of spring training.

Sean Doolittle tosses perfect inning in 15th save

(1:42 am ET) Athletics closer Sean Doolittle earned his 15th save Wednesday, striking out one in a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish off his team's 9-7 win over the Astros.

Doolittle picked up his first save of the second half, though was pitching for the third time in a four-day span. Another clean sheet gives the breakout performer a 2.70 ERA, 0.64 WHIP and 67:3 K:BB ratio in 46 2/3 innings.
