Jorge Soler slugs two more homers in third game

(12:20 pm ET) Cubs outfielder Jorge Soler put together his third multi-hit game in a row to start his career Friday, in a 7-2 win over the Cardinals.

Soler went 3 for 3 with a walk, while clubbing two home runs and driving in three runs total. He has seven hits in his first three major-league games, including three home runs, while driving in six runs.  


Jake Lamb's grand slam wins it

(12:09 pm ET) The Diamondbacks received a rare boost from infielder Jake Lamb Friday, in a 5-2 win over the Rockies.

Lamb put the Diamondbacks up for good in the eighth inning with a grand slam, his second home run of the season. It was his lone hit in the game, as he went 1 for 4 with two strikeouts and four RBI.

Lamb has appeared in 16 games for the Diamondbacks, hitting .218/.279/.345 in 55 at-bats.  


Joe Panik racks up four hits in blowout win

(11:56 am ET) Giants shortstop Joe Panik snapped out of a slump Friday, with a four-hit game in a 13-2 win over the Brewers.

Panik, who had just three hits in his previous five games, went 4 for 6 Friday. He had one double and three singles, while scoring two runs in the win. He raised his season average to .312 with the performance. 


Jose Bautista goes deep in third straight

(11:41 am ET) Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista homered for the third straight game Friday, in a 6-3 loss to the Yankees.

Bautista had just one hit in the game, his solo home run to open the scoring in the fourth quarter. He went 1 for 3 with one RBI and one run scored for the third game in a row, as each of his homers in this streak has been of the solo variety.

Bautista now has 27 home runs and 80 RBI in 459 at-bats on the season, while hitting .283/.399/.512 overall.


Chris Davis drives in four in win

(11:29 am ET) Orioles first baseman Chris Davis has found his power stroke recently, as he slugged his third home run in five games in a 9-1 win over the Twins Friday.

Weber broke the game open with his fourth inning home run, a grand slam that put the Orioles up fro good. He finished the game 1 for 3 with a walk, two runs scored and four driven in.

Davis' batting average continues to tumble, as he has just three hits over his last five games, but all have gone over the fence, helping his cause. He now has 24 home runs and 67 RBI in 407 at-bats on the season. 


Anthony Rizzo out for first half of doubleheader

(11:22 am ET) Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo will miss at least the first half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, as he is not in the lineup for the first game.

Rizzo has not played since Tuesday due to a back injury, which has now cost him four games. Whether he will be active for the second half of the doubleheader is not yet clear. 


Jose Abreu serving as DH due to leg soreness

(11:17 am ET) White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu is staying off his feet for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, as he is in the lineup as the designated hitter to start the day. Abreu is dealing with some leg soreness, but it is not expected to keep him out of the lineup at any point. 

Kevin Correia loses in first bullpen appearance

(11:10 am ET) Dodgers pitcher Kevin Correia struggled in his first appearance out of the bullpen Friday, in a 3-2 loss to the Padres.

Correia entered the game with the score tied in the 12th inning, and proceeded to blow the game. He allowed two walks and two hits while recording just two outs before the Padres walked off with the win.

Correia was moved to the bullpen after allowing 10 runs in 14 innings in three starts with the Dodgers, and should remain there for the remainder of the season. He has a 5.13 ERA in 144 innings of work for the season.  


Tim Stauffer picks up win in extras

(11:06 am ET) Padres pitcher Tim Stauffer picked up his fifth win of the season Friday, as he pitched a scoreless 12th inning to help down the Dodgers, 3-2.

Stauffer closed out the game by allowing one hit in an otherwise nondescript 12th inning, during which he also struck out one batter. He picked up the win as the offense went on to score in the bottom half of the inning, pushing his record to 5-2 for the season.

Stauffer has a 3.61 ERA in 52 1/3 innings on the season. 


Justin Miller designated for assignment Saturday

(11:01 am ET) The Tigers designated pitcher Justin Miller for assignment Saturday to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.

 Miller has been with the Tigers a few times this season, but has struggled, allowing seven runs in 12 1/3 innings of work.
