Brewers recall OF Shane Peterson from Triple-A
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(9:44 am ET) The Brewers have recalled outfielder Shane Peterson from Triple-A, the team announced on Wednesday. Peterson has not played in the Major Leagues since grabbing seven at-bats with the A's in 2013.

But he was hitting well with Colorado Springs this season, slashing .320/.387/.523 with seven home runs and 27 RBI in 47 games at Triple-A. Peterson will provide manager Craig Counsell with another outfield option, now that Khris Davis has undergone knee surgery.

Peterson, who was claimed off waivers from the Cubs in December, will take the roster spot of Tyler Cravy, who started Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.

Orioles trade outfielder Alejandro De Aza to Red Sox
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9:40 am ET) The Orioles traded outfielder Alejandro De Aza to the Red Sox on Wednesday, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. De Aza was designated for assignment last week.

The 31-year-old De Aza hit just .214 in 30 games with the Orioles after batting .293 in 20 games with Baltimore in 2014.

In eight MLB seasons, De Aza has played for the White Sox, Marlins and Orioles. He has a career .265/.328/.401/.728 slash line.

Giants SS Brandon Crawford goes yard in loss on Tuesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(9:38 am ET) Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford keeps on hitting. On Tuesday, Crawford belted his eighth home run of the season in the 7-4 loss to the Pirates.

His third-inning blast brought his team to within two, but it just wasn't enough. Over his last 10 games, Crawford is batting .275 (11 for 40) with two home runs and five RBI.

Rockies C Nick Hundley collects two doubles in Game 2 of DH
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(9:32 am ET) After sitting out the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader, Rockies catcher Nick Hundley was back in there for the nightcap against the Dodgers. And Hundley brought his power stick to the contest, as he ripped two doubles in the 9-8 loss.

Hundley also drove in two runs and scored three, raising his season average up to .307 with the two-hit effort. He's been productive at the plate for the Rockies and has 12 hits in 36 at-bats, including two home runs, over his last 10 games.

Orioles CF Adam Jones enjoying improved strikeout rate in 2015
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9:30 am ET) Orioles center fielder Adam Jones has been able to reduce his strikeout rate significantly through the first two months of the 2015 season. Jones has a career strikeout rate of 19.1 percent, but through 49 games this season it stands at 13.1 percent, according to FanGraphs.com.

"I'm just trying to not make it easy on them," Jones said, per MASNsports.com. "If they get two strikes, and they think they got me, I'm just trying to make them make a good pitch. Don't want to give away anything.

"I understand there are three strikes. If I go up there and hack at two of them, OK, back away and maintain a strong at-bat."

Jones had a pretty strong April offensively before struggling in May. Despite the rough month, he continues to work hard at the plate and in the field.

"I saw this from a Baseball America magazine in 2003. Derek Jeter said, 'The day I hit 1.000 and have zero errors is the day I'll stop working.' That quote resonates with me," Jones said. "He worked tirelessly. He also said, 'It doesn't take talent to work hard.' I am not just here to grab a check.

"I love what I do and I want to be good at what I do. We take pride in our craft. For me to have a good at-bat for my team, that always is good for the team."

Dodgers INF/OF Enrique Hernandez belts home run on Tuesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(9:25 am ET) Starting at second base for the Dodgers' second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Rockies, Enrique Hernandez had two hits including his second home run of the season. The solo shot came with one out in the top of the first inning to give the Dodgers the early lead. They would need it, as they wound up winning by a score of 9-8.

Hernandez also started the first game and managed one hit in three at-bats. The 23-year-old utility player has now started each of the last three games as manager Don Mattingly tries to get him into the lineup as best as possible.

In those three contests, while playing left field, shortstop and second base, Hernandez has four hits in 11 at-bats

Diamondbacks' A.J. Pollock hits game-winning home run Tuesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(9:17 am ET) Diamondbacks center fielder A.J. Pollock played hero in Tuesday night's 7-6 victory over the Braves. With his team down 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh, Pollock launched a two-run home run to put the Diamondbacks up for good. The longball, which splashed into the pool at Chase Field, was his sixth of the season.

"He's got quick hands and that bat is through the zone so quick, he's able to hit it into the pool," manager Chip Hale said, per MLB.com. "He's still putting it together, he's still a work in progress and working on his game. If he stays healthy, he's an All Star-type player."

Overall on Tuesday, Pollock was 2 for 5 with three RBI. He has been hitting well over his last 10 games, batting .310 (13 for 42) with two home runs and six RBI in that span. He has hit safely in eight of those 10 contests.

"I'm just trying to be consistent with how I'm showing up, how I'm preparing for the game," Pollock said. "I've had some good helpers along the way, with the mindset [that] we've got good guys in-house here that help with the mental part of the game."

Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez goes yard in Game 2 of doubleheader
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(9:12 am ET) After being held hitless in Game 1, Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez rebounded in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rockies. Gonzalez wound up with just one hit in Game 2, but it was a two-run home run in the top of the third to put the Dodgers up 4-0 in the eventual 9-8 victory.

The home run was his 11th of the season. In his last 10 games, Gonzalez is hitting .270 (10 for 37) with a pair of home runs and six RBI.

Pirates CF Andrew McCutchen collects four hits in Tuesday's win
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(1:59 am ET) Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen 4 for 5 at the plate to help lead the Pirates to a 7-4 win over the Giants on Tuesday.

McCutchen drove in two runs when he singled off Chris Heston in the third inning. He also had a triple during the game and scored two runs.

Over his last 13 games, McCutchen is 23 for 47 with three home runs and 12 RBI.

Mariners closer Fernando Rodney coughs up another save
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(1:57 am ET) Mariners closer Fernando Rodney was charged with a blown save Tuesday night against the Yankees.

Rodney permitted a run-scoring single to Stephen Drew with two outs in the ninth to send the game to extras. He was charged with one earned run on two hits and a walk while striking out one over one inning of work. Of his 23 pitches, 13 were strikes.

Rodney has blown two of the last three save chances. He owns a 6.85 ERA, a 1.79 WHIP and 20:12 K:BB ratio over 22 1/3 innings.
