Struggling Dustin Pedroia back Wednesday for Red Sox
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(3:09 pm ET) John Farrell has told WEEI that Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia has overcome a left wrist injury enough to return to the Wednesday lineup. Pedroia will bat leadoff against the White Sox after missing the last two games.

Pedroia has struggled throughout the season. He has not achieved a multi-hit game since April 3, after which he has just seven hits in 45 at-bats. He has no home runs and just one RBI on the season. Pedroia has also yet to draw a walk.

Pirates getting Chris Stewart ready for return from DL
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3:07 pm ET) Pirates catcher Chris Stewart (knee) will catch Jeff Locke's start for Triple-A Indianapolis Wednesday, but manager Clint Hurdle said a "plan is in place" for him to rejoin the major-league roster, per MLB.com.

"There's a couple of steps we still need to accomplish to get him ready to return," Hurdle said.

Manager says Starling Marte's swing 'doesn't look right'
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3:04 pm ET) Pirates outfielder Starling Marte began Wednesday's game at Cincinnati on the bench before he had to replace Jose Tabata, who left the game after crashing into the outfield wall.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle wanted to give Marte a break after his second straight three-strikeout performance.

"I don't know if he's trying too hard, or if the swing is disconnected," Hurdle said of Marte, per MLB.com. "But the swing doesn't look right to me. I just think he needs a day off to rest himself mentally. So we'll back him away from the flame. We've been too soft at the top of the order."

Manager: Mike Napoli out on Wednesday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(3:02 pm ET) John Farrell has revealed to WEEI that first baseman Mike Napoli will not be in the lineup for the Wednesday game against the White Sox. Napoli is day-to-day with a left finger injury sustained on a head-first slide into second base Tuesday night. He is waiting for the swelling to dissipate.

Napoli boasts an impressive stat line of .302/.393/.509.

Joe Kelly diagnosed with hamstring tightness
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2:57 pm ET) The Cardinals announced starting pitcher Joe Kelly left Wednesday's start at Milwaukee due to tightness in his left hamstring. Kelly was hurt trying to beat out a bunt in the fifth inning.

Jose Tabata diagnosed with mild concussion-like symptoms
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2:55 pm ET) Pirates outfielder Jose Tabata was diagnosed with mild concussion-like symptoms after slamming into the left-field wall during Wednesday's game at Cincinnati, according to MLB.com.

Although Tabata crashed into the wall with his left shoulder, Pirates head athletic trainer Todd Tomczyk appeared to be looking at Tabata's jaw during an on-field examination. Tabata was able to walk off the field with limited assistance from Tomczyk and manager Clint Hurdle.

Joe Kelly leaves start after four innings due to injury
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2:46 pm ET) Cardinals starting pitcher Joe Kelly left his start Wednesday at Milwaukee with an apparent hamstring injury.

Kelly called for the trainer after trying to beat out a bunt single in the top of the fifth inning. Kelly would not take the hill in the bottom of the fifth inning, as he was replaced by Seth Maness.

Kelly left trailing the game 1-0, but he pitched well before getting hurt. The right-handed hurler allowed one unearned run on three hits and no walks, while striking out two in four innings. He lowered his ERA to 0.59.

The only run Milwaukee scored off Kelly came on Carlos Gomez's RBI double in the third inning. However, he was charged with an unearned run as Logan Schafer, who scored the run on Gomez's double, reached base on a Matt Adams' fielding error.

Kelly's next scheduled start is for Monday against the Mets, but his status is up in the air following Wednesday's injury.

Strikeouts mar strong start for Tyler Flowers
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2:44 pm ET) White Sox new starting catcher Tyler Flowers has not only fallen into a 2-for-15 slide since slamming 11 hits in his first 23 at-bats to start the season, but he is on an absurd strikeout pace. He has fanned 17 times in 38-bats.

Flowers, however, still boasts productive numbers with a stat line of .347/.375/.442. and has improved dramatically behind the plate over last year.

Marcus Semien scuffling after fine start to season
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2:32 pm ET) White Sox second baseman Marcus Semien has not fallen into a deep slump, but he has certainly struggled after a strong start.

Semien has just two hits in his last 16 at-bats to lower his batting average from .250 to .216. He has also fanned 16 times in 56 at-bats, but has shown a bit of the power that marked his minor league career with two doubles and two home runs.

R.A. Dickey, Dustin McGowan to pitch in doubleheader
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2:00 pm ET) The Blue Jays will start R.A. Dickey in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Twins after Wednesday's game was postponed due to inclement weather. Dickey was scheduled to start Wednesday.

Dustin McGowan will start the second game of the doubleheader, per Sportsnet.ca.
