D-Backs' Yasmany Tomas asked to use more caution at third base
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(10:17 pm ET) Though Diamondbacks third baseman Yasmany Tomas made a great play at third base on Sunday, manager Chip Hale saked him to use more caution defensively.

Tomas put his knee in front of Howie Kendrick while sliding, causing a minor injury. Tomas "tweaked" his knee, Hale said, and Hale is hoping Tomas will exercise more caution on those kind of plays moving forward.

"It's just kind of a natural thing that he does," Hale said, via the Arizona Republic. "We just want him to stay away from injury. We'll try to get him to just make a tag and get out of there."

Nationals' Anthony Rendon diagnosed with oblique strain
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:17 pm ET) Nationals manager Matt Williams said Monday that infielder Anthony Rendon has been diagnosed with an oblique strain.

Rendon had been working his way back from a knee injury suffered in spring training before being sidelined last week with tightness in his side. He was sent back to Washington, D.C. to visit with the team doctor about his new injury.

With the new oblique issue, Rendon will have the timetable for his return set. He doesn't figure to return to action until the last half of May at the earliest.

(10:14 pm ET) Marlins first baseman Justin Bour went 1 for 3 at the plate in Miami's 6-4 loss to the Nationals on Monday. Bour did his damage in the seventh inning when he ripped a Jordan Zimmermann pitch over the left field wall for a solo shot, his first of the season.

Bour is now hitting .583 on the year in 12 at-bats.

Nationals second baseman Ian Desmond launches home run
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(10:11 pm ET) Nationals second baseman Ian Desmond went 1 for 4 at the plate in Washington's 6-4 win over the Marlins on Monday.

Desmond did his damage in the eighth inning when he ripped a Bryan Morris pitch over the center field wall for a two-run shot, his second of the year. Desmond is now hitting .236 with seven RBI in 106 at-bats this season.

Nationals 3B Yunel Escobar posts perfect day at the plate
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(10:08 pm ET) Nationals third baseman Yunel Escobar went a perfect 5 for 5 at the plate in Washington's 6-4 win over the Marlins on Monday.

Escobar collected five singles, including the go-ahead two RBI in the eighth inning off of Bryan Morris, scoring Tyler Moore and Denard Span. Escobar boosted his average to .311 with seven RBI in 90 at-bats this season.

Athletics' Nate Freiman picks up RBI in rehab debut
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:06 pm ET) Athletics first baseman Nate Freiman made his rehab debut with Triple-A Nashville Monday, going 0 for 2 with an RBI sacrifice fly.

Freiman played seven innings at first base before being removed from the game. He's recovering from a lumbar muscle strain in his back and could be ready to return to action soon, provided he doesn't suffer a setback during his rehab assignment.

Rangers OF Leonys Martin leaves with left wrist sprain Monday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(10:00 pm ET) Rangers outfielder Leonys Martin left Monday's game against the Astros with a left wrist sprain, according to MLB.com.

Martin attempted to make a diving catch in center, but his wrist bent awkwardly. He tried to stay in the game but was eventually pulled. He will undergo X-rays after the game. Martin went 0 for 1 before leaving the game.

Nationals reliever Tanner Roark picks up first save of the year
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(9:56 pm ET) Nationals relief pitcher Tanner Roark worked a nearly perfect ninth inning in Washington's 6-4 win over the Marlins on Monday, picking up his first save of the year.

Roark struck out two of the four batters he faced and left Dee Gordon stranded at first base after a single. Roark lowered his ERA to 3.21 three strikeouts in 14 innings of work this season.

Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmermann earns no decision Monday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(9:53 pm ET) Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmermann allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits in seven innings of work in Washington's 6-4 win over the Marlins on Monday, but did not factor into the decision.

Zimmermann had trouble early on when he allowed Martin Prado and Giancarlo Stanton to reach base safely. Then, Marcell Ozuna singled to center to drive home a run. He found his groove after that, working through the sixth without allowing a run. Then in the seventh, Zimmermann surrendered a lead off home run to Justin Bour.

Zimmermann, who remains 2-2, moved his ERA to 4.15 in 34 2/3 innings of work. He will look to bounce back Sunday against the Braves.

Blue Jays reliever Brett Cecil slams door in ninth for save
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(9:49 pm ET) Blue Jays reliever Brett Cecil pitched a perfect ninth inning Monday to earn the save against the Yankees.

The Blue Jays trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning but rallied for three runs to hand Cecil the ninth to close out.

Cecil has struggled during the early part of the season and had lost the closers role at one point to rookie Miguel Castro.

Cecil has now posted saves in his last two opportunities.
