Red-hot Christian Yelich plays catalyst in Marlins' win Wednesday

(3:35 pm ET) Marlins left fielder Christian Yelich continue his recent unworldly hitting on Wednesday, as he went 4 for 5 with two runs scored in the 7-3 win over the Braves. Yelich doubled twice and was a real offensive force on Wednesday.

Yelich has been on fire recently, batting .486 (16 for 37) with six doubles over his last 10 games.


Struggles for Braves' Williams Perez continue in loss Wednesday

(3:30 pm ET) Braves starter Williams Perez had a rough outing against the Marlins on Wednesday. The young right-hander allowed six runs (four earned) on nine hits over five innings. He walked one and did not strike anyone out, en route to the 7-3 loss.

Perez (4-6, 5.65 ERA) allowed two runs in the second inning, but the Braves rallied back with three in the third to give Perez a lead. He gave that lead right back however, as the Marlins scored one in the fourth and three more in the fifth, including a two-run home run by Marcell Ozuna.

Perez has had some difficulties lately. He hasn't won a start since June 20 and has lost six of his last seven starts. He has given up four earned runs or more in four consecutive outings.


Marlins SP Adam Conley goes five, gets win on Wednesday

(3:26 pm ET) Marlins rookie pitcher Adam Conley had a decent effort against the Braves on Wednesday. The young left-hander went five innings, allowing three, three walks and four hits while striking out four. Conley labored, throwing 95 pitches in his five innings, but he was handed his third win of the season.

Conley (3-1, 5.02 ERA) was given a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but he allowed three runs to cross in the bottom of the third. The Marlins rallied back with a run in the fourth and three in the fifth, and were able to hang on for the 7-3 final.


Astros recall OF Preston Tucker from Triple-A on Wednesday

(3:19 pm ET) The Astros have recalled outfielder Preston Tucker from Triple-A Fresno. Tucker was sent down back on Aug. 22 after struggling at the plate for much of August. 

But he went 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBI on Sunday for Fresno, and hit .303 in the eight games since his demotion.


Mariners demote Jesus Montero to Triple-A

(2:58 pm ET) The Mariners sent first baseman Jesus Montero down to Triple-A on Wednesday, reports The News Tribune. Montero is hitting .200 with two home runs and nine RBI in 75 at-bats.

Diamondbacks recall RP Keith Hessler from Triple-A

(2:54 pm ET) The Diamondbacks have recalled left-hander Keith Hessler from Triple-A Reno. Hessler has appeared in eight games in relief for the D-Backs in 2015, and he carries a hefty 15.19 ERA in 5 1/3 innings.


A's RP Evan Scribner has torn lat muscle, will miss rest of season

(2:13 pm ET) Athletics reliever Evan Scribner will miss more than a few games. The right-hander has been diagnosed with a torn lat muscle and will be out for the rest of the 2015 season.

Scribner left the game Monday with what was described as shoulder soreness. It is unclear whether the two injuries are related.

In his fourth season with the A's, Scribner went 2-2 with a 4.35 ERA in 54 relief appearances. 


Cubs' Kyle Schwarber scratched Wednesday with rib soreness

(1:48 pm ET) Cubs rookie Kyle Schwarber was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Reds due to right rib soreness. Schwarber had been slated to start in left field and bat second, but he'll sit this one out, with Chris Coghlan taking over in left.

Schwarber said he experienced pain while taking swings in the batting cage. He will he a precautionary MRI.

Schwarber homered in Tuesday's ballgame, but he's hitting just .189 with 14 strikeouts and four walks over his last 10 games.


Angels recall 1B/OF Efren Navarro from Triple-A

(1:42 pm ET) The Angels have recalled outfielder/first baseman Efren Navarro prior to Wednesday's game against the A's. Navarro will be with the Angels for the fifth time this season, as he has been going back-and-forth to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Overall, Navarro has played 37 games for the Angels in 2015. He has hit .260 with four doubles and five RBI.


A's option pitcher Cody Martin to Triple-A

(1:19 pm ET) The Athletics sent pitcher Cody Martin down to Triple-A on Wednesday, the team announced.

Martin only lasted three innings after surrendering five runs on six hits in Tuesday's start. He is 2-4 with a 6.57 ERA over 24 2/3 innings.
