by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:38 pm ET) Diamondbacks outfielder Ender Inciarte went 2 for 4 with a two-run home run in his team's 3-2 loss to the Nationals Wednesday.

Arizona couldn't get any offense going through seven innings and entered the eighth down 2-0, but Inciarte came through with his first home run since Aug. 1. He owns a .265/.301/.338 line with three home runs, 16 RBI and nine stolen bases in 275 at-bats.

Rafael Soriano picks up win vs. Diamondbacks
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:35 pm ET) Nationals closer Rafael Soriano earned a win Wednesday, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning and striking out one in his team's 3-2 victory over the Diamondbacks.

Soriano (3-1) induced two fly balls for outs before striking out the last batter in the top of the ninth. He then watched the offense score a walkoff win with three singles in the bottom half of the inning. Soriano owns a 2.54 ERA and 46:15 K:BB ratio in 49 2/3 innings.

Evan Marshall takes loss vs. Nationals
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:33 pm ET) Diamondbacks pitcher Evan Marshall was stuck with a loss Wednesday, giving up one earned run on three hits and striking out one in a 3-2, walkoff Nationals win.

Marshall (4-3) surrendered a single to open up the bottom of the ninth but managed to strike out the next batter. That would be his only out recorded, as each of the next two batters also singled to push the winning run across the plate. Marshall owns a 3.16 ERA and 41:13 K:BB ratio in 37 innings.

Tanner Roark tosses seven scoreless innings Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:25 pm ET) Nationals pitcher Tanner Roark didn't factor into the decision Wednesday despite giving up just five hits and one walk in seven scoreless innings while striking out two in his team's 3-2 victory over the Diamondbacks.

Roark watched his lead evaporate in the eighth inning, when the Diamondbacks clubbed a two-run home run to even the game. He owns a 2.80 ERA and 118:36 K:BB ratio in 160 2/3 innings. Roark's next test will come Monday against the Phillies.

Trevor Cahill gives up two runs in no-decision vs. Nationals
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:25 pm ET) Diamondbacks pitcher Trevor Cahill didn't factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two earned runs on six hits and four walks in 6 1/3 innings and striking out five in his team's 3-2 loss to the Nationals.

Cahill was on the hook for the loss before the Diamondbacks offense scored two runs on an eighth-inning home run. He's now turned in five straight quality starts and owns a 4.54 ERA and 75:37 K:BB ratio in 83 1/3 innings. Cahill is scheduled to face the Dodgers Tuesday.

Mark Melancon picks up win vs. Braves
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:08 pm ET) Pirates closer Mark Melancon earned a win Wednesday, striking out one in a 1-2-3 ninth inning in his team's 3-2 victory over the Braves.

Melancon (2-3) surrendered a run and took a blown save in his previous outing, but he was back on form Wednesday, securing his first win since taking over the closing role in early May. He owns a 2.24 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 50:8 K:BB ratio in 52 1/3 innings.

David Carpenter allows unearned run in loss vs. Pirates
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:05 pm ET) Braves pitcher David Carpenter took the loss Wednesday, giving up one unearned run on one hit in two-thirds of an inning in his team's 3-2 defeat against the Pirates.

Carpenter (4-3) surrendered a leadoff single but retired the next batter before an error put runners on second and third with only one out. A sacrifice fly by the next man up ended the game in walkoff fashion. Carpenter owns a 3.69 ERA and 57:11 K:BB ratio in 46 1/3 innings.

Rick Porcello tosses complete game shutout
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10:00 pm ET) Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello tossed a complete game shutout against the Rays Wednesday.

Porcello allowed just three hits during the outing. He struck out four and did not issue any walks. Porcello threw 104 pitches. Porcello gave up a double in the second inning, but was able to work around it. He did not allow a hit or walk over the next five innings. Porcello allowed a leadoff single in the eighth, but again managed to work his way out of trouble. The third hit came in the ninth inning. Desmond Jennings reached second on defensive indifference, but Porcello was able to get Matt Joyce to pop out and end the game.

With the win, Porcello improved to 14-8. He'll take on the Yankees in his next start.

Alex Wood surrenders two runs in no-decision Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:59 pm ET) Braves pitcher Alex Wood wasn't a factor in the decision Wednesday, allowing two earned runs on four hits and one walk in seven-plus innings and striking out four in his team's 3-2 loss to the Pirates.

Wood delivered seven scoreless innings before giving up a walk and a ground rule double to open the eighth and end his night. Both runners would come around to score to deny Wood a win. He owns a 3.05 ERA and 124:37 K:BB ratio in 130 innings after surrendering two earned runs or less in each of his last five starts. Wood is slated to face the Mets Tuesday.

Gerrit Cole strikes out six in return Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:59 pm ET) Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole didn't factor into the decision in his return to the rotation Wednesday, allowing two earned runs on five hits and four walks in seven innings and striking out six in his team's 3-2 win over the Braves.

Cole was making his first start since July 4 after being activated from the disabled list earlier in the day. He surrendered RBI singles in the first and sixth innings, and his offense was able to get both runs back in the eighth. Cole owns a 3.69 ERA and 84:33 K:BB ratio in 92 2/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Cardinals Tuesday.
