Yadier Molina resting Saturday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:31 am ET) Cardinals sizzling catcher Yadier Molina won't get a chance to extend his 10-game hitting streak Saturday unless he pinch-hits. He has been given the day off as Tony Cruz takes over the position for the game against Washington.

Molina has 16 hits in his last 37 at-bats and owns .344/.373/.547 stat line on the season.

Denard Span back Saturday with Nationals
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:22 am ET) Nationals center fielder Denard Span has returned to the lineup for the Saturday game against St. Louis after recovering from a concussion that has kept him out since April 11.

Span, who told MASN that he felt like he never sustained the head injury, is hoping to hit better than he had been before leaving for a minor league rehab. He had just three hits in his previous 24 at-bats to drop his average to .222.

Jose Reyes returns to action Saturday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10:19 am ET) Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes returned to the starting lineup Saturday against the Indians.

Reyes was activated from the disabled list Friday, and was expected to return Saturday. He missed a couple weeks due to a hamstring injury. Reyes will hit leadoff against Cleveland in his return.

Michael Bourn sitting out Saturday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10:12 am ET) Indians outfielder Michael Bourn is not in the team's lineup Saturday against the Blue Jays.

Bourn returned to the lineup this week after missing time with a hamstring injury. It's assumed that Saturday is just a routine day off for Bourn. He should return to the lineup in a few days.

Adam LaRoche boasts fine numbers despite mini-slump
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:10 am ET) Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche has cooled off after a torrid start, but still boasts strong numbers heading into late April.

LaRoche has just one RBI in the last nine games and 4 for 21 in the last five, but he does own a three-game hitting streak and a fine .412 on-base percentage this season. His 11 runs and 10 RBI this year also show far greater productivity than what he managed in a highly disappointing 2013.

David Ortiz back in the lineup Saturday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9:59 am ET) Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is back in the team's starting lineup Saturday.

Ortiz sat out Friday's game, but it was not injury-related. Ortiz is set to hit third against the Orioles.

Alex Avila sitting Saturday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9:52 am ET) Tigers catcher Alex Avila is not in the lineup Saturday against the Angels.

Avila will be replaced by Bryan Holaday behind the plate. Avila is receiving a normal day of rest. He should return to the lineup Sunday.

Drew Stubbs achieves first multi-hit game with Rockies
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9:27 am ET) Rockies outfielder and occasional starter Drew Stubbs finally made an impact with his new team Friday night.

Stubbs scored after each of his three singles - in the first, fourth and sixth innings. He elevated his batting average from .136 to .222 in the process.

Brad Boxberger sent down to the minors
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9:27 am ET) Rays pitcher Brad Boxberger has been sent down to Triple-A.

Boxberger appeared in three games with the club, not allowing a run in any of his appearances. He'll likely appear in the majors again at some point in the season.

Johan Santana's velocity improving
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9:24 am ET) Orioles pitcher Johan Santana has seen his velocity slowly improve as he attempts to make it back to the big leagues, according to Peter Gammons.

Santana has seen his velocity creep up to 85 mph recently. It's a far cry from Santana's vintage velocity, but represents an upgrade after his shoulder issues. There's a sense Santana isn't that far away from a possible return.
