Andrelton Simmons playing through shoulder issue

(12:59 am ET) Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons aggravated a right shoulder injury Wednesday, but is expected to play through the pain, MLB.com reports. He is hitting .254 with five homers and 36 RBI in 386 at-bats.

"It's not that bad, but it's definitely a nagging thing," Simmons said. "But it's not to where I can't play. If I need to put a little extra on my throws, I'll feel it a little bit."

David Buchanan likely to take rotation spot of injured Cliff Lee

(12:55 am ET) Phillies pitcher David Buchanan will likely replace the spot of injured pitcher Cliff Lee in the rotation, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Lee was scheduled to start Wednesday at home against Houston, but Buchanan will likely be called up before the game. The right-hander is 5-5 with a 4.40 ERA in 10 starts this season for the Phillies.

Phillies recall Cesar Jimenez from Triple-A

(12:51 am ET) The Phillies have recalled reliever Cesar Jimenez from Triple-A Lehigh Valley following Thursday's win over Washington. Jimenez will take over the roster spot of Cliff Lee, who landed on the disabled list with an elbow issue. 

Report: Jason Hammel to beat out Jesse Chavez for final rotation spot

(12:48 am ET) After an interview with Athletics general manager Billy Beane, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area reports that Jason Hammel will likely stick as the fifth starter over Jesse Chavez.

Chavez owns a 3.44 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 119:41 K:BB ratio in 125 2/3 innings. Hammel has lost his first four decisions with his new club. He owns a 3.87 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP over 21 starts (125 2/3 innings).

Michael Bourn starts light running Thursday

(12:42 am ET) Indians outfielder Michael Bourn did some running prior to Thursday's game against the Mariners, per MLB.com. The next step in his recovery is to start running the bases. Bourn has been out since July 5 while recovering from a strained hamstring. He remains without a timetable for return.

Marlins part ways with Miguel Tejada

(12:33 am ET) The Giants sent second baseman Tony Abreu outright to Triple-A Fresno. Abreu appeared in three games with the Giants last season before he was designated for assignment. He was hitting .281/.329/.434 in 64 games at Fresno.

Bud Norris pitches seven strong in no-decision

(12:29 am ET) Orioles pitcher Bud Norris twirled a gem Thursday night in a no-decision against the Angels. The right-hander allowed eight hits and one walk while striking out four over seven innings of a 1-0 defeat in extras.

Over his last three starts covering 18 2/3 innings, Norris has allowed five earned runs. He owns a 3.69 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP over 18 starts (109 2/3 innings). He will make his next start Tuesday in Toronto.

Huston Street converts 28th save in extras

(12:25 am ET) Angels closer Huston Street struck out one and needed 18 pitches to retire the side in order Thursday night against the Orioles in 13 innings. He has converted 28 of 29 save attempts, with a 0.95 ERA and a 0.74 WHIP over 38 innings of relief. He has not allowed an earned run over his first five innings of work with his new club.
