Logan Darnell getting the call for Saturday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4:40 pm ET) The Twins will recall pitcher Logan Darnell from Triple-A Rochester to start Saturday against the White Sox, the team announced.

Darnell will start in Kyle Gibson's place, as a back injury is keeping him off the mound. Darnell previously appeared in one game for the Twins, tossing three scoreless innings in early May. He has a 3.43 ERA in 94 1/3 innings at Rochester.

Kyle Gibson scratched from Saturday's start
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4:36 pm ET) Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson's back injury will keep him out yet again Saturday, as the team announced he will not make his scheduled start against the White Sox.

Gibson has not pitched since July 18 due to this injury, as he was scratched from his previously scheduled outing Wednesday. Logan Darnell will be recalled from Triple-A to make the start, and it is not clear at this point if Gibson will be placed on the disabled list to clear the roster spot.

Trevor Plouffe not in Friday lineup for Twins
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:36 pm ET) Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe is catching a break Friday against the visiting White Sox. Eduardo Nunez is set to man the position instead.

Plouffe has been steady but far from spectacular lately. He has one hit in six of his last seven games and owns a .243/.314/.409 stat line on the year.

Ruben Tejada returns to lineup Friday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4:30 pm ET) Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada is in the starting lineup Friday against the Brewers, as expected Friday.

Tejada sat out Thursday's game when he was hit in the head by a pitch. He felt well enough to play Thursday, but manager Terry Collins said he was held out as a precaution.

Astros make moves involving two right-handers
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:24 pm ET) The Astros have optioned reliever Anthony Bass to Triple-A Oklahoma City to make room for promoted infielder Gregorio Petit. They have also transferred fellow right-hander Matt Albers to the 60-day disabled list.

David Ortiz in lineup Friday against David Price
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:21 pm ET) Red Sox slugger David Ortiz told John Farrell he could play Friday - and the manager figured that was good enough for him. Ortiz is in the lineup for the game against Tampa Bay starter and personal villain David Price.

Ortiz had been dealing with a sore back.

Jon Singleton taking a seat Friday against left-hander
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:16 pm ET) The Friday lineup for the Astros against Miami is sans first baseman Jon Singleton, who is set to sit against fellow lefty Brad Hand. Jesus Guzman is starting instead.

Singleton has just three hits in his last 35 at-bats, but is batting .295 against southpaws, which is far superior to his .179 mark overall this season.

Jacob Realmuto gets the call Friday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4:14 pm ET) The Marlins recalled catcher Jacob Realmuto from Double-A Jacksonville Friday, after sending Anthony DeSclafani down.

Realmuto appeared in seven games earlier in the season for the Marlins, driving in five runs while hitting just .200 in 20 at-bats. He was hitting .301/.368/.474 at Jacksonville.

Marlins send Anthony DeSclafani back down
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4:11 pm ET) The Marlins optioned pitcher Anthony DeSclafani to Triple-A New Orleans Friday, to open up a spot on the active roster.

DeSclafani was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans last week, but did not appear in any games. He was simply called up to provide a fresh arm in the bullpen, and will likely return to New Orleans' rotation.

DeSclafani has a 2.82 ERA in 38 1/3 innings at Triple-A, but allowed 20 runs in 24 1/3 innings over five starts with the Marlins.

Shane Greene start knocked back to Sunday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:07 pm ET) The Saturday start of Yankees right-hander Shane Greene has been pushed back to Sunday as Chris Capuano has taken his place.

Greene is coming off the worst of his three outings this season. He gave up four earned runs to Texas in 5 1/3 innings after strong performances against Cleveland and Baltimore.
