Not starting Mookie Betts Saturday no reflection of recent slump
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(3:33 pm ET) Mookie Betts' recent 0-for-7 slide isn't the reason Red Sox manager John Farrell didn't start him Saturday against the Orioles, reports WEEI.com.

With the O's starting right-hander Chris Tillman, who's considered tough with a heavy sinker, Farrell wants to get utility-man Brock Holt some at-bats.

"A way to get Brock in the lineup," Farrell said. "He has swung the bat well in limited looks against Tillman and our goal, and my personal goal, is to get Brock [in the lineup] and keep him in the mix as much as possible."

Rays 2B Nick Franklin, 1B James Loney still need rehab games
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(3:25 pm ET) Rays second baseman Nick Franklin and first baseman James Loney both fielded ground balls prior to Saturday's game against the Yankees. Franklin and Loney, who are both dealing with an oblique issue, will still require minor-league rehab games before they're activated form the disabled list.

Victorino (ribs) scratched by Red Sox Saturday, Nava starts in RF
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(3:10 pm ET) The Red Sox have scratched right fielder Shane Victorino from Saturday's lineup against the Orioles due to sore ribs and will instead play Daniel Nava, according to NESN.

Victorino injured the ribs Friday crashing into the outfield wall going after a fly ball.

He was originally hitting seventh in the order on Saturday.

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(2:51 pm ET) Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday left the Cardinals game in the top of the second inning on Saturday with tightness in his middle back, the team announced

The move was a precautionary measure, the team said.

Twins GM not overly concerned with Alex Meyer's slow start
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(2:46 pm ET) Despites the recent struggles of Twins pitching prospect Alex Meyer , general manager Terry Ryan is not overly concerned, reports TwinCities.com.

"He’s just not throwing it over the plate," Ryan said. "It’s a little bit of what was going on in spring training. We’ve got to clean that up. We’ve got to get him to throw it over and trust his stuff is all."

Through two starts and 8 2/3 innings, Meyer has walked 11 and posted an 8.31 earned run average for Triple-A Rochester.

Meyer lost a battle in spring training for the Twins' final rotation spot.

Marlins' Steve Cishek still waiting for first save
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(2:44 pm ET) Marlins closer Steve Cishek pitched a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday, but he's still looking for his first save of the year.

The Marlins have won just three games, and two have been by leads too big to give Cishek a save situation. The third was a tenth-inning walk-off win.

Cishek blew a save in his only opportunity. His ERA is currently 19.29, down from 108.00 after his first appearance and 33.75 after his second.

Pirates OF Jaff Decker off DL, optioned to Triple-A
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(2:23 pm ET) Pirates outfielder Jaff Decker (calf) has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and optioned to Triple-A, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Decker began the season on the DL with a strained calf injury.

He had five at-bats for the Pirates last season and did not have a hit.

Twins general manager expects pitcher Mike Pelfrey to be better
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(2:12 pm ET) Twins starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey is off to a slow start in 2015 and general manager Terry Ryan said he expects better from his right hander, reports the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

"He can do better. We expect him to do better," Ryan said. "I wasn't worried about his pace. I was worried about him putting away hitters."

In two starts this season, Pelrey has allowed five earned runs in 10 innings (4.50 ERA) with four strike outs and five walks.

Report: Marlins claim LHP Matt Tracy from Yankees
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(2:10 pm ET) The Marlins claimed left-hander Matt Tracy off waivers from the Yankees on Saturday, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Tracy, 26, pitched two innings for the Yankees this season before he was designated for assignment on Sunday.

Phillies' Ben Revere hitting ball hard, still struggling
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(2:09 pm ET) Over his career, Phillies outfielder Ben Revere has hit nearly 70 points lower in April than from May onward. This season, Revere is off to an even slower start, with a .135 average. He's 1 for 13 on the current road trip and was not in Saturday's starting lineup.

"I can't find nothing right now," Revere said of his struggles, per MLB.com. "But you have to keep your head up. It's a long season. Hopefully I've got a lot more at-bats and a lot more games to play. If I can do that, I'll be alright. I've started slow before. As soon as the ball starts falling, the sky's the limit."

Interestingly, Revere thinks he's swinging the bat better than usual, even though the hits aren't falling. "I think this is the first time in April that I've hit the ball as hard as I have," he said. "I don't know how many times I've lined out to guys, but that's the game of baseball."
