Robinson Cano tweaks wrist after homering

(8:49 pm ET) Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano dove after a Danny Valencia grounder up the middle in the second inning in Baltimore Monday and came up flexing his right hand or wrist, YES reported.

Cano remained in the game and grounded out to first base in the top of the third inning. Earlier in the game, Cano hit his 13th home run of the season on an opposite-field shot.

David Freese a late scratch

(8:47 pm ET) Cardinals third baseman David Freese was scratched from the lineup Monday against San Diego, MLB.com reports.

Freese has inflammation near his right thumb and is day to day. He was spiked during Sunday's game.

Freese is available off the bench and hopes to return Tuesday.

Jayson Werth needs more time

(8:43 pm ET) Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth will not be ready to return Friday as previously expected, the Washington Times reports.

Manager Davey Johnson said he got an "alarming" report on him Monday. He could miss as much as two more weeks.

Jerry Hairston didn't have MRI

(8:37 pm ET) The Los Angeles Times amended an update to Dodgers utility player Jerry Hairston's status Monday. Hairston did not undergo an MRI exam.

He has been diagnosed with tendinitis in his knee, however.

Aroldis Chapman available to close

(8:15 pm ET) Reds reliever Aroldis Chapman is coming off blowing a dramatic save against the Phillies Sunday. He gave up back-to-back homers to lose it for Cincinnati.

Chapman blew his second straight save, but manager Dusty Baker said he's available to close Monday against the Mets, MLB.com reports

"He's good to go," Baker said of Chapman on Monday. "You know, this is a funny game. We're extremely happy when it happens to the other guy. Everybody was super-happy when it happened to Kimbrel. When it happened to us, everybody wants to know what's wrong and are looking for answers. Sometimes there are no answers."

Orioles ink Ronny Paulino

(8:01 pm ET) The Orioles signed catcher Ronny Paulino to a minor-league contract Monday.

Paulino was released by the Mariners before the beginning of the season. He was with the Orioles for 20 games last year at the beginning of the season.

The 32-year-old is expected to join Triple-A Norfolk and serve as catching depth for the organization.

Brandon Phillips with over 600 RBI for Reds

(7:58 pm ET) Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips picked up two first-inning RBI in New York Monday and now has 601 career RBI with Cincinnati, MLB.com reports.

Only Joe Morgan (612) has more RBI by a Reds second baseman. Phillips' two-run single gives him 38 RBI on the year and a .285 batting average.

Jurickson Profar, Leury Garcia to split time at 2B

(7:41 pm ET) Rangers manager Ron Washington said infielders Jurickson Profar and Leury Garcia will split time at second base with Ian Kinsler on the shelf, ESPN reports Monday.

Profar started Monday against Oakland. While the fans want to see Profar, a top prospect, every day, Washington wants to keep Garcia active.

"Leury's going to get some time there," Washington said. "So when you see Profar sitting, don't be surprised."

David Adams swats first career home run

(7:29 pm ET) Yankees third baseman David Adams hit his first major-league home run in the second inning of Monday's game in Baltimore.

Adams took Freddy Garcia deep and it put the Yankees up 2-0 at the time.

Adams entered Monday's game having gone 4 for 14 to start his big-league career.

Jordan Walden feeling better

(7:17 pm ET) Braves reliever Jordan Walden said his injured shoulder is feeling "pretty good" after playing catch Monday, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

Walden hopes to return off the DL when eligible Monday in Toronto.

“That’s what we’re shooting for, but it’s got to be feeling good,” Walden said. “…I just need to make sure I’m fully healthy when I come back because we already have great guys down there still. I just want to be part of it down there. I want to be able to help out Craig (Kimbrel) a little bit.”
