Report: Blue Jays targeting Asdrubal Cabrera
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:52 am ET) Indians veteran shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera is on the radar of the Blue Jays as the trading deadline approaches, per Fox Sports. He would play second base, a spot with which he became familiar early in his career, as Jose Reyes is locked in at shortstop.

Cleveland has shown no inclination to sign Cabrera with prized prospect Francisco Lindor on the way. Lindor has been raking at Triple-A Columbus after his recent promotion. Cabrera has raised his trade value by hitting well lately, but he is tied for the American League lead in errors with 14 and has limited range.

Jedd Gyorko back in lineup Monday after activation from DL
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:42 am ET) Padres second baseman Jedd Gyorko has returned to the starting lineup after missing eight weeks with a foot injury. He is set to bat seventh Monday in Atlanta.

Gyorko was a mess at the plate early this season after a strong rookie year. He is hoping to quickly improve on a miserable stat line of .162/.213/.270.

Report: Baseball execs anticipating trade of Jon Lester
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:36 am ET) Rival executives are expecting the Red Sox to trade ace Jon Lester before the deadline, according to ESPN, which is further reporting that the most likely destination is the Dodgers.

The defending World Series champions have all but fallen out of playoff contention. The value of Lester has arguably never been higher. He not only owns a 10-7 record and career-best 2.52 ERA, but he has also won his last four decisions and allowed a mere seven runs in his last 58 2/3 innings.

Tommy La Stella getting afternoon off Monday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:17 am ET) Braves second baseman Tommy La Stella has emerged from a mini-slump, but he will not get a chance to pick up his momentum Monday against the Padres. He is out of the lineup in favor of rookie Phil Gosselin.

La Stella has four hits in his last six at-bats after a 2-for-20 slide.

B.J. Upton absent from Monday lineup
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:10 am ET) Braves leadoff hitter and center fielder B.J. Upton is grabbing some pine for the Monday afternoon game against visiting San Diego. Jordan Schafer is set to start in both spots instead.

Upton has been solid and consistent since moving to the top of the order. He has been particularly productive lately with seven hits and seven runs scored in the last six games.

Ryan Howard clubs 16th home run Sunday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12:52 am ET) Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard belted his 16th home run Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

In his first at-bat, Howard homered on the first pitch he saw from Vidal Nuno. He crushed a 90 mph to left center for a two-run shot. He finished 1 for 3, with two runs scored and two RBI.

Jon Singleton hits his seventh home run Sunday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12:32 am ET) Astros first baseman Jon Singleton hit his seventh home run Sunday against the Marlins.

Singleton waited until the ninth inning to strike. With the bases empty in the ninth inning, Singleton hit a 92 mph fastball out to left for a solo shot. He also walked twice earlier in the contest. Singleton finished 1 for 2, with one run scored and one RBI.

Jose Altuve hits fourth home run
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12:26 am ET) Astros second baseman Jose Altuve hit his fourth home run Sunday against the Marlins.

In his first at-bat Altuve took a 91 mph fastball out to left for a left field for a solo shot. The play was reviewed, but the ruling was ultimately upheld. Altuve would also single twice later in the contest. Altuve finished 3 for 4, with one run scored and one RBI.

Gregory Polanco hits fifth home run Sunday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12:13 am ET) Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco hit his fifth home run Sunday against the Rockies.

In the top of the eighth inning, Polanco took an 84 mph slider out to right for the solo shot. He finished 1 for 4, with one run scored and two RBI.

Kenley Jansen picks up his 30th save
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(7/27/2014) Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen locked down his 30th save Sunday against the Giants.

Jansen entered the ninth with a one-run lead. He responded to the pressure, tossing a perfect inning of work and striking out all three batters he faced. Jansen lowered his ERA to 3.24 with the appearance.
