Report: Angels, Josh Hamilton in talks to resolve dispute
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12:43 pm ET) The Angels and embattled slugger Josh Hamilton are in talks to resolve their dispute. A number of scenarios are being explored, including a trade or a buyout, although no agreement is close at this time, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports. The report comes a day after CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman mentioned the possibility of a buyout for Hamilton.

Prior to the start of the 2015 season, Hamilton admitted to Major League Baseball that he relapsed. Hamilton has battled drug and alcohol addiction for the majority of his professional career.

Hamilton, who signed a five-year, $125 million deal with the Angels back in 2012, is not comfortable with the Los Angeles/Orange County lifestyle, Heyman added. The Angeles currently owe him $83 million. At this point, there appears to be no rush to get a deal done since yearly salaries become guaranteed on Opening Day. There is also language in Hamilton's contract protecting the Angels should Hamilton not be in playing shape following his relapse. For now, Hamilton remains on the 15-day disabled list recovering from shoulder surgery.

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter feels like an MVP again
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(11:38 am ET) Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter is off to a fast start, and he thinks he's back to his MVP form of two years ago.

"I feel as close to if not better than I felt in 2013," Carpenter said, per MLB.com. "Everything is kind of clicking right now."

Carpenter is hitting .378 with a home run, six doubles and seven RBI. His OPS is 1.061.

Cardinals' Jaime Garcia faces hitters, still six weeks away
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(11:31 am ET) Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia faced live hitters on Friday for the first time since March 24. Garcia, who has battled shoulder inflammation, pitched batting practice.

Garcia said he "felt good" after the session, per MLB.com, but GM John Mozeliak said he's likely six weeks away from rejoining the team. Mozeliak compared the session to one a pitcher would throw in the second week of spring training.

Mozeliak said the Cardinals are still looking at Garcia as a starter, once he returns to the team.

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
