Reds' Devin Mesoraco (hip) likely to get surgery at some point
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4:22 pm ET) Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco acknowledged Tuesday that his hip injury will likely require surgery to correct, but he's trying all possible treatments first, MLB.com reports.

Mesoraco would be on the shelf for four months if he undergoes surgery, and it appears he's resigned to eventually having the procedure, though he'll continue to see limited action while playing through the issue for now. He could return to the starting lineup this weekend as the team's designated hitter for a series in an American League park.

Mets move Cesar Puello to 60-day disabled list
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(4:21 pm ET) The Mets moved outfielder Cesar Puello to the 60-day disabled list, per ESPN.

Puello was on the 15-day disabled list with a back injury. He hasn't played yet this season. The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for Johnny Monell, called up by the team on Tuesday.

Cubs RF Jorge Soler returns to lineup Tuesday, hits cleanup
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(4:21 pm ET) Cubs right fielder Jorge Soler returned to the starting lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Cardinals. Soler was hitting in the cleanup spot for the first time this season, as manager Joe Maddon did some juggling in his batting order.

Third baseman Kris Bryant was batting third on Tuesday, after hitting cleanup in each of his first 16 games of the year.

Rangers make multiple adjustments to starting lineup
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(4:21 pm ET) The Rangers reshuffled their lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros, slotting Carlos Corporan at catcher, Carlos Peguero in left field, Delino DeShields in center and Rougned Odor at second base, according to MLB.com.

All four were out of the lineup Monday. DeShields replaces Leonys Martin in center after Martin suffered a sprained left wrist trying to make a diving catch. The Rangers are currently the underdogs (+145) against Houston.

A's 3B Brett Lawrie getting close to double-digit hitting streak
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4:15 pm ET) Athletics third baseman Brett Lawrie carries an eight-game hitting streak into Tuesday's game at Minnesota. Lawrie has also had multiple hits in three straight games.

Lawrie has never faced Twins rookie Trevor May in his career, but he is batting .263 with two double, two home runs and 12 RBI in 21 games against right-handed starters in 2015.

Lawrie is batting .367 (11 for 30) with one home run, two doubles, five runs and nine RBI during his hitting streak.

Astros looking for consistency from prospect Mark Appel
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(4:15 pm ET) Astros pitcher Mark Appel is undefeated (2-0) at Double-A this season, but the team isn't satisfied with what they've seen from the 2013 first-round draft pick.

"I'd like to see some consistently dominant outings," Astros GM Jeff Luhnow said, per the Houston Chronicle. "We all know he’s capable of doing that up here, but a little bit more of a track record would be (good)."

Appel started the season looking like he was ready for a promotion. In his first three starts, he had a 1.92 ERA, with 11 strikeouts and two walks in 14 innings.

He's come back to earth since, with a 9.39 ERA, six walks and seven strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.

Cardinals C Yadier Molina back in lineup Tuesday vs. Cubs
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(4:14 pm ET) Cardinals All-Star catcher Yadier Molina was back in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Cubs. Molina was rested on Monday after starting seven straight behind the dish. He is also dealing with slight knee soreness, but appears healthy enough to play Tuesday. He was batting seventh in manager Mike Matheny's lineup.

Molina is still trying to find his way with the bat. He's hitting just .179 with three RBI over his last 10 games.

Mets' Bobby Parnell to throw side session in New York
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4:14 pm ET) Mets pitcher Bobby Parnell is heading to New York to throw a side session for pitching coach Dan Warthen, The Star-Ledger reports.

Warthen will check that Parnell's mechanics are sound before he's used in game situations. The reliever is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and may be able to pitch in a major-league game by the end of May.

Collins: Mets 3B David Wright seeking weekend return
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:12 pm ET) The absence of Mets third baseman David Wright from the lineup might be nearing an end. Terry Collins has stated that Wright is hoping to be back in action this weekend, per the Wall Street Journal.

Wright has been sidelined since April 15 with a hamstring injury. He is expected to run the bases by Thursday as part of his comeback preparation.

Cardinals' 1B Matt Adams returns to starting lineup Tuesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(4:10 pm ET) Matt Adams was back in the Cardinals' starting lineup for Tuesday's matchup with the Cubs. With lefty Travis Wood on the mound Monday, manager Mike Matheny opted to rest the slugging first baseman.

Now, with the Cardinals facing right-hander Kyle Kendricks on Tuesday, Adams returned to the cleanup spot in the lineup, playing first base. Adams has been heating up lately, going 12 for his last 25 with a home run and seven RBI in that stretch.
