Joel Hanrahan unlikely to play this season

(7:43 pm ET) Tigers pitcher Joel Hanrahan is "still a longshot" to play this season, the Detroit News reports.

Hanrahan has been able to throw bullpen sessions over the last few weeks as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery, but he remains without a timetable to return to action and has yet to face live hitters.


Casey McGehee drawing interest on the market

(7:34 pm ET) Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee is drawing interest on the trade market, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. 

McGehee is in the middle of a resurgent season. After spending 2013 in Japan, McGehee signed with the Marlins during the offseason. He's returned with a vengeance, hitting .322/.389/.399 over 376 at-bats. 

The Mariners are rumored to be one of the teams in on McGehee. The club is in the middle of a wild card race, and is looking to upgrade their bats. It's unclear what other clubs have shown interest in McGehee. 


Jesus Guzman back in lineup Tuesday

(7:28 pm ET) Astros first baseman Jesus Guzman is in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the A's.

Guzman was held out of action Sunday with mild back pain. He has hit just .209/.284/.284 with two home runs and seven RBI in 134 at-bats.


Yonder Alonso could return later this week

(7:26 pm ET) Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso could return later this week, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune

Alonso has been rehabbing from a hamstring injury. He moved his rehab assignment to Triple-A Monday, and is getting closer to a return. There's a chance he'll join the team later this week in Atlanta. Alonso hit .210/.250/.341 over 229 at-bats prior to the injury.


George Springer remains out of lineup Tuesday

(7:25 pm ET) Astros outfielder George Springer is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the A;s.

Springer hasn't played since Saturday due to right quad soreness as well as a knee issue, the latter of which he had checked out with an MRI. He has hit .231/.336/.468 with 20 home runs, 51 RBI and five stolen bases in 295 at-bats.


Stephen Vogt dealing with minor foot injury

(7:19 pm ET) Athletics catcher/outfielder/first baseman Stephen Vogt has been dealing with a minor foot injury that has kept him from seeing time behind the plate in recent weeks, Comcast SportsNet California reports.

Vogt has made seven appearances at first base in his last eight games since last seeing brief action at catcher on July 7. His last start behind the plate came back on July 3. Despite the foot issue, Vogt has been producing with the bat, hitting .392/.436/.608 with two home runs and six RBI in 51 at-bats during July.


Curtis Granderson sitting out due to illness

(7:14 pm ET) Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson was not in the team's starting lineup Tuesday due to an illness, according to ESPN.

Granderson is dealing with a stomach bug, and will not play Tuesday. He will likely be considered day-to-day for now. 


Troy Tulowitzki could need more than 15 days

(7:08 pm ET) Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki could need more than 15 days on the disabled list, according to the Denver Post

Rockies trainer Keith Dugger said there's no guarantee Tulowitzki will be ready after 15 days. He's dealing with a hip flexor injury, but the team has not yet announced a timetable for his recovery. Tulo is hitting .340/.432/.603 over 315 at-bats.


Angel Pagan able to hit off a tee

(6:45 pm ET) Giants outfielder Angel Pagan was able to hit off a tee Monday, according to ESPN.

Pagan was able to take swings from both sides of the plate. He's attempting to come back from a back injury. Pagan has been out since June 14 due to the issue. He's hitting .307/.356/.411 over 241 at-bats. 


Taijuan Walker to return to rotation Wednesday

(6:36 pm ET) The Mariners will recall Triple-A pitcher Taijuan Walker before Wednesday's game to start Wednesday against the Mets, the team announced Tuesday.

Walker gave up four earned runs in 10 innings over two starts in late June and early July while striking out nine and walking seven, but he was sent back to Tacoma. In two starts after being optioned, the rookie gave up three earned runs in 10 innings but only struck out two while walking four. The highly-regarded prospect has the chance to remain in the rotation for the rest of the season if he can hold his own.
