"He's close," manager Mike Scioscia told MLB.com

Scioscia also said Jepsen will make another rehab appearance this week. The reliever has allowed four earned runs in 3 2/3 innings this season.

Freddy Galvis taking over hot corner
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9:34 pm ET) With Chase Utley on the disabled list with an oblique strain, the Phillies will use Freddy Galvis as the everyday third baseman.

"He's going to be an everyday guy in the big leagues," manager Charlie Manuel told The Inquirer. "It's just a matter of time."

Galvis is hitting .226 with three home runs and 24 RBI in 69 at-bats. He has gone 4 for 16 with a home run and two RBI in his last four games as a starter.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:33 pm ET) Twins shortstop Pedro Florimon was removed from Thursday's game against the Tigers before the bottom of the third inning with a sprained right index finger, the team announced. He was 1 for 1 with a run before exiting.

Florimon has made nine-straight starts at shortstop. He was replaced by Eduardo Escobar.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9:23 pm ET) Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks was forced out of Thursday's game against the Indians with lower back spasms.

Middlebrooks struck out looking twice and was replaced by Pedro Ciriaco. He has been held without a hit in his last 12 at-bats.

Aaron Miller moves from mound to outfield
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(9:18 pm ET) Dodgers prospect Aaron Miller has been moved from the mound to the outfield, according to MLB.com.

Miller, who was an outfielder in college, was 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA in his first season as a reliever at Double-A Chattanooga. He went 20-19 with a 4.03 ERA in his minor-league career as a pitcher.

"He was a two-way player coming out of Baylor when we drafted him, and we liked what we saw in his bat when he pitched." vice president for player development De Jon Watson said. "We felt this was the right time to make the switch, given his age and his desire to continue pursuing his big-league dream and help this organization."

Chase Utley lands on DL
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8:52 pm ET) The Phillies placed second baseman Chase Utley on the 15-day disabled list with a mild, Grade 1 strained right oblique.

“We do believe and hope that Chase will be ready to play in Philadelphia within 15 days,” general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said.

Utley received a MRI exam Thursday, which led to the team's decision. The Phillies have not publicly released the results of his exam. Utley hit .272 with seven home runs and 25 RBI in 44 games before landing on the DL.

Tommy Hanson's return 'could be weeks away'
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8:34 pm ET) Angels starting pitcher Tommy Hanson has spent significant time on the bereavement list in May, with his last start coming on May 4. His return "could be weeks away," the Orange County Register reports.

The timetable may be speculation by the reporter but is notable, as the door was slightly open for Hanson to return this weekend. He is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 17 strikeouts in 28 innings over five starts this season.

Neil Walker in 1-for-16 slump
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8:25 pm ET) Pirates second baseman Neil Walker went hitless for the fourth time in his last five games Thursday against the Cubs, making him 1 for 16 over his last five games. Walker, however, walked four times in 12 plate appearances against the Cubs over the three-game series.

Walker has watched his line slip to .228/.338/.298 during the slump. He'll try to turn things around when the Pirates face the Brewers this weekend.

Trevor Plouffe feeling 'a lot better' Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8:18 pm ET) Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe, who is on the seven-day disabled list with a concussion, felt "a lot better" Thursday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

"No headaches or anything," Plouffe told the Pioneer Press. "I pretty much feel normal. As far as any timelines, it's still one step at a time."

Plouffe was scheduled to undergo a full-impact test Thursday to determine whether his injury was a concussion.

Anthony Rizzo hitless in last four games
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(8:11 pm ET) Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is hitless in his last four games after going 0 for 4 in a 4-2 loss to the Pirates Thursday. Rizzo has made 17 plate appearances during his four-game skid and hasn't reached base safely once.

Rizzo's line has fallen to .256/.320/.489 with the slump, but he does have 10 home runs on the year. He'll try to stop his skid this weekend against the Reds.
