Gerardo Parra among those struggling for Arizona
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12:08 pm ET) Diamondbacks outfielder Gerardo Parra has been hitting a bit like many of his teammates recently - and that's not good.

Parra has just 12 hits in his last 58 at-bats and has been inconsistent as well. He has been held hitless in six of the last 13 games and is 1 for 11 in his last three.

He does, however, rank second on the team with 11 runs on the season.

Report: Manny Machado could play in a rehab game soon
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12:07 pm ET) Orioles third baseman Manny Machado could be nearing rehab games, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Machado was able to run the bases without any issues Wednesday. It's one of the final steps before he's able to play in a game. As long as Machado is able to get through the next couple days without any setbacks, he could be in line for an extended spring training game next week. Once he joins a minor-league affiliate, Machado would have 20 days before the team has to activate him.

Lyle Overbay on paternity leave as Elian Herrera promoted
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:57 am ET) The Brewers have placed first baseman Lyle Overbay on paternity leave and called up versatile Elian Herrera from Double-A Nashville.

Overbay is off to a miserable start with just two hits in 20 at-bats.

Mark Reynolds back to old ways with Brewers
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:53 am ET) The slump and spate of strikeouts that began plaguing Mark Reynolds around June last season with Cleveland have arrived earlier in 2014.

Reynolds has just one hit - a home run - in his last 16 at-bats with eight strikeouts. His batting average has dipped during that stretch from .286 to .189.

His inability to make consistent contact and propensity for long slumps is what motivated the Indians to dump him last season. It remains to be seen if he recovers enough to prevent the Brewers from doing the same. He has fanned 17 times in 37 at-bats on the year.

Eduardo Nunez to be called up Thursday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:51 am ET) Twins infielder Eduardo Nunez will be called up for Thursday's double header, according to FSN.

Nunez will be the team's 26th man for both games. He'll likely be sent down to the minors following the two games. Nunez was brought over from New York in mid-April.

Casey Janssen's injury not 'a lot worse'
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:48 am ET) Blue Jays reliever Casey Janssen's latest injury is not that bad, according to the Toronto Star.

Manager John Gibbons told reporters that Janssen's injury isn't "a lot worse." He added that Janssen "doesn't feel comfortable enough yet to start cutting it loose." He's expected to be shut down for a few days before he throws again.

Anthony Rendon justifying faith of manager with hot start
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:42 am ET) Matt Williams certainly can't regret using Anthony Rendon as a full-time starter this season. Rendon has justified that decision - at least so far.

Rendon has hit safely in 13 of 15 games for the Nationals and owns an encouraging stat line of .339/.381/.593. He is the surprising team leader with 12 RBI and is tied for the top with five doubles. His .974 OPS is the best among all starters not named Ryan Zimmerman.

He has also shown a decent eye at the plate and an ability to make consistent contact with 10 strikeouts in 59 at-bats.

Bryce Harper expected back in lineup Thursday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:25 am ET) The quad muscle that prevented Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper from playing Wednesday should not keep him out Thursday against St. Louis, according to the Washington Post.

Harper has been dealing with tightness since Friday, but remained in the lineup. "He's been running a lot," Matt Williams said. "He's been doing a lot of things. Give him a day to calm it down a little bit."

Harper certainly hasn't been negatively affected at the plate. He owns an eight-game hitting streak during which he has 14 hits in 29 at-bats with five RBI. His power numbers have been slow to come around, however. He has just one home run in 50 at-bats this season.

Raul Valdes coming back up
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:25 am ET) Astros reliever Raul Valdes is on his way back to the majors Thursday, according to MLB.com.

Valdes will replace Kevin Chapman on the roster. He was sent down following Wednesday's game. Valdes has a 4.94 career ERA in 136 2/3 innings in the majors.

Jose Reyes return to Blue Jays moved back to Saturday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:12 am ET) The return of Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes from a hamstring injury has been pushed back from Friday to Saturday. His team is in chilly Cleveland this weekend and is trying to avoid him playing three games there.

Reyes has not found his timing at the plate in a minor league stint, during which he has yet to hit safely in six at-bats.
