Kelly Johnson expected to return Aug. 7

(6:14 pm ET) Yankees infielder Kelly Johnson is expected to be activated from the disabled list when first eligible on Aug. 7, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Manager Joe Girardi said that Johnson may play more second base when he returns from the DL. He has made 41 appearances at third base this year, but the team has acquired Chase Headley to man the hot corner.


Rockies send three to Triple-A Tuesday

(6:11 pm ET) The Rockies optioned first baseman Ben Paulsen and pitchers Brooks Brown and Chad Bettis to Triple-A Colorado Springs Tuesday. The moves clear the way for two DL activations and the addition of middle-infield help.

Rockies summon Cristhian Adames

(6:08 pm ET) The Rockies recalled infielder Cristhian Adames from Triple-A Colorado Springs Tuesday.

Adames is needed with Josh Rutledge out due to an upper-respiratory infection. He has hit .276/.332/.351 with two home runs, 40 RBI and seven stolen bases in 348 at-bats between Double-A and Triple-A.


Boone Logan returns from disabled list

(6:05 pm ET) The Rockies activated pitcher Boone Logan from the disabled list prior to Tuesday's game.

Logan was on the disabled list due to diverticulitis, but he tossed a perfect inning in a rehab appearance Monday. He returns to a 6.11 ERA and 25:8 K:BB ratio in 17 2/3 innings.


Drew Stubbs not in lineup Tuesday

(6:02 pm ET) Rockies outfielder Drew Stubbs remained out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cubs.

Stubbs had to leave Saturday's game after suffering an ankle injury, and he hasn't played since. He has hit .302/.338/.517 with 11 home runs, 29 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 242 at-bats.


Matt Guerrier chooses free agency over Triple-A gig

(6:00 pm ET) What was speculated has now been confirmed - veteran reliever Matt Guerrier has refused a Triple-A assignment by the Twins in favor of free agency after clearing waivers, per the St. Paul Pioneer-Press.

Gurrier was let go after a terrible stretch in July.


Birth of son has Oswaldo Arcia sidelined Tuesday

(5:44 pm ET) Twins outfielder Oswaldo Arcia is not with the team Tuesday in Kansas City. He stayed back for the birth of his son and will rejoin the his teammates Wednesday, per the St. Paul Pioneer-Press.

Neil Ramirez headed to disabled list with sore triceps

(5:42 pm ET) Cubs pitcher Neil Ramirez, who was sent down to the minors last week to rest his arm, is going on the disabled list with a sore triceps, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The injury is not believed to be serious and could be related to fatigue. Ramirez has been excellent in his rookie season, which is also his first year in relief work. He owns a 0.96 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 36:10 K:BB ratio in 28 innings.


Michael Saunders set to take BP Tuesday

(5:41 pm ET) Mariners right fielder Michael Saunders is closing in on a rehab assignment after missing nearly three weeks with a strained left oblique, per MLB.com.

Saunders was scheduled to take batting practice with the team Tuesday. If all goes well, he will head out on a minor league rehab assignment. Though he is already eligible to be activated off the disabled list, he is unlikely to play for Seattle until at least the second week of August.


Jayson Werth should be available off bench Tuesday

(5:32 pm ET) Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth should be available off the bench Tuesday and could return to the lineup Wednesday, masnsports.com reports.

Werth is dealing with an ankle injury, but it's not considered serious. He has hit .284/.376/.445 with 12 home runs and 58 RBI in 380 at-bats.
