Phillies bring up Michael Martinez

(11:02 pm ET) The Phillies have purchased the contract of infielder Michael Martinez from Triple-A Lehigh Valley Thursday. Martinez hit .226 with 12 RBI and three stolen bases in 31 games at Triple-A.

Zach McAllister picks up fourth win

(10:59 pm ET) Indians starting pitcher Zach McAllister rode a wave of run support to his fourth win Thursday night, holding the Red Sox to three earned runs on five hits and three walks in five innings, striking out five in his team's 12-3 win. All three runs scored on a David Ortiz home run in the third inning.

McAllister hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any start this season while racking up a 2.89 ERA in 56 innings over nine starts. He'll take on the Reds in Cincinnati Tuesday.


Manny Machado records three doubles

(10:57 pm ET) Orioles third baseman Manny Machado enjoyed his 10th multi-hit game of May during Thursday's 12-6 defeat to the Blue Jays.

Machado recorded three doubles, including a two-run double in the third that gave the Orioles an early lead. He finished 3 for 4 with two RBI and became the only player since 1916 to have multiple three-double games before his 21st birthday.

Machado has a .345/.368/.560 line with three home runs and 12 RBI in 20 May games. He is hitting .330 in 203 at-bats.

Nick Markakis extends hitting streak with home run

(10:51 pm ET) Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis hit his fifth home run Thursday against the Blue Jays.

Markakis' solo homer came in the eighth off Brandon Morrow. He finished 1 for 3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI in a 12-6 loss.

Markakis has an eight-game hitting streak. He is hitting .343 (12 for 35) with two homers and six RBI over that span.

Adam Jones homers vs. Blue Jays

(10:46 pm ET) Orioles outfielder Adam Jones hit his seventh homer -- a solo shot off Brandon Morrow in the eighth -- for his only hit. He was 1 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI in Thursday's 12-6 loss to the Blue Jays.

Jones is hitting .301 with three home runs and eight RBI in his last 12 games. He has a .315/.348/.497 line with seven homers and 31 RBI in 197 at-bats.

P.J. Walters to start for Twins this weekend

(10:43 pm ET) Twins pitcher P.J. Walters said he will be promoted to start this weekend, DemocratandChronicle.com reports. Walters will presumably fill the Twins' open rotation spot Friday.

Walters is 4-2 with a 3.31 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 46:16 K:BB ratio in 54 1/3 innings at Triple-A this season.


Chris Davis hits sixth home run of May

(10:41 pm ET) Orioles first baseman Chris Davis hit his 15th home run in Thursday against the Blue Jays.

Davis had a solo home run in the fourth inning off starter Brandon Morrow. He finished 1 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI in a 12-6 loss.

Davis has four homers in the last six games and is hitting .391 (9 for 23), with five RBI over that span.

J.P. Arencibia has four RBI vs. O's

(10:36 pm ET) Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia drove in four runs in Thursday's 12-6 victory over the Orioles.

Arencibia doubled in a run in the fourth, had a two-run home run in the fifth and scored his fourth run of the night on a ground out in the eighth inning. He finished 2 for 5 with two runs scored.

Arencibia has three homers in his last 13 games. He is hitting .230/.244/.479 with 11 home runs and 24 RBI in 165 at-bats.

A grand day for Edwin Encarnacion

(10:26 pm ET) Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion hit his 13th home run of the season -- a grand slam in the sixth inning of a 12-6 victory Thursday against the Orioles. It was his fifth career grand slam. 

Encarnacion finished 1 for 4 with a walk, two runs scored and four RBI. He is hitting .382 with three home runs and 13 RBI in his last nine games. He has a .250/.333/.500 line in 176 at-bats.


Kevin Gausman has debut spoiled by Blue Jays

(10:19 pm ET) Orioles rookie Kevin Gausman made his major-league debut Thursday night at Toronto.

Gausman, the fourth overall pick in the 2012 draft, struck out three through his first two innings and did not surrender a run until the fourth.

He allowed an RBI double to J.P. Arencibia and a sacrifice fly in the fourth. He then gave up a two-run home run to Arencibia in the fifth. The right-hander was charged with four runs and seven hits over five innings as he took the loss. He struck out five and walked two on 89 pitches.

Gausman, who went 2-4 with a 3.11 ERA at Double-A, is scheduled to start Tuesday at Washington.
