Alex Avila still out of lineup Saturday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:55 am ET) Tigers catcher Alex Avila remains out of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals.

Avila reportedly felt "disoriented" after taking some swings in the batting cages recently, and his post-concussion symptoms may end up keeping him sidelined for the rest of the regular season. The Tigers are concerned about the catcher, ESPN reports.

Kennys Vargas blasts ninth home run Friday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:51 am ET) Twins desginated hitter Kennys Vargas went 2 for 5 with a solo home run in his team's 5-4 win over the Indians Friday.

Vargas has homered twice in his last three games while delivering six hits in 14 at-bats. On the negative side, he added three strikeouts to his two hits Friday. Vargas owns a .295/.310/.495 with nine home runs and 37 RBI in 190 at-bats.

Oswaldo Arcia swats 19th home run Friday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:49 am ET) Twins outfielder Oswaldo Arcia excelled in his return to action Friday, going 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBI in his team's 5-4, 10-inning victory over the Indians.

Arcia put the first run of the game on the board in the third inning, slugging a solo home run to right field. He then added an RBI single in the seventh inning to bring his team within one before the Twins plated a runner in the ninth and another in the 10th to pick up a walkoff win. Arcia has hit .237/.308/.469 with 19 home runs and 54 RBI in 337 at-bats.

Michael Brantley slugs 20th home run Friday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:45 am ET) Indians outfielder Michael Brantley went 2 for 5 with a solo home run in his team's 5-4 loss to the Twins Friday.

Brantley also added a double while extending his hitting streak to 10 games. He's also collected at least one hit in 22 of his last 23 games. Setting career highs virtually across the board in 2014, Brantley has delivered his first 20-20 campaign this year, hitting .322/.380/.502 with 20 home runs, 95 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 584 at-bats.

Logan Forsythe slugs sixth home run Friday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:41 am ET) Rays second baseman Logan Forsythe went 2 for 3 with a double, a home run and three RBI in his team's 4-3 defeat against the White Sox.

Forsythe hadn't collected an extra-base hit since homering on Aug. 14, but he was swung a hot bat Friday, driving in two runs with a first-inning double before smacking a solo home run in the fourth inning to put his team up 3-0. Unfortunately, that was all the offense they'd find, leading to a loss after the White Sox scored four times in the fifth inning. Forsythe has hit .231/.296/.343 with six home runs, 26 RBI and two stolen bases in 286 at-bats.

Daniel Murphy racks up four hits in win Friday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:37 am ET) Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy went 4 for 5 and scored a run in his team's 5-0 win over the Braves Friday.

Murphy has been filling in at third base for David Wright, making eight starts at the position in the last 10 days. He has hit .299/.341/.416 with nine home runs, 54 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 565 at-bats.

Rafael Ynoa drives in three runs in four-hit night Friday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:33 am ET) Rockies third baseman Rafael Ynoa went 4 for 5 with two doubles, one triple and three RBI in his team's 15-3 win over the Diamondbacks Friday.

Ynoa has done well since being brought up at the beginning of September, entering the game 11 for 31 in 10 appearances. However, all 11 of his previous hits had been singles before he came through with three extra-base hits Friday. He has now hit .417/.417/.528 in 35 at-bats.

Royals recall Tim Collins
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:17 am ET) The Royals recalled pitcher Tim Collins from Triple-A Omaha Friday.

Collins worked the final inning of a blowout loss in his return to major-league action Friday, needing just five pitches to complete a 1-2-3 inning and make him the most effective Royals pitcher in the 10-1 defeat. Including his time with the team over the first half of the season, he owns a 3.93 ERA and 10:10 K:BB ratio in 18 1/3 innings.

Michael Morse strikes out twice in return to action Friday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:12 am ET) Giants outfielder Michael Morse returned to action Friday, going 0 for 2 with a pair of strikeouts in his team's 5-0 loss to the Padres.

Morse didn't start Friday's game but appeared as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning. He played two innings in the field before coming out on a double switch. Morse has hit .279/.336/.475 with 16 home runs and 61 RBI in 438 at-bats.

Lisalverto Bonilla shows control issues Friday
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(1:24 am ET) Rangers pitcher Lisalverto Bonilla had some control issues Friday against the Angels.

Bonilla allowed two runs on two hits over five innings. He struck out four and walked four during the outing. Bonilla was strong to start things off, going four scoreless frames to open the game. He gave up his only runs in the fifth inning. After a leadoff double, Bonilla allowed a two-run shot to Brennan Boesch. He was able to get out of the inning, but was pulled prior to the start of the sixth.

With the win, Bonilla improved to 2-0. He’ll take on the Astros if he gets another start.
