Matt Garza happy to return
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(1:09 pm ET) Cubs starting pitcher Matt Garza is set to make his first start of the season Tuesday against the Pirates, and he is understandably excited to be over his lat injury.

"I'm happy I don't have to rehab again," he told the Chicago Sun-Times Saturday. "I just had to refresh some stuff from spring training, got the rust off. I feel great, ready to go Tuesday and can't wait."

Garza has not pitched in a major-league game since July 28, when he was shut down with a stress reaction in his right elbow. He admitted to being a bit worried when he first took the mound in Double-A Tennessee, his first competitive action in eight months.

"The only time I was nervous was when I made my first rehab in Tennessee," he said. "The first couple pitches I was a little worried, but then it was fine. Ever since then, there's been no doubt in my mind."

Garza threw six strong innings in his last rehab start, and he needed just 75 pitches to do so. The team expects him to be ready for a full workload quickly.

Brian Roberts moved to 60-day DL
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(1:09 pm ET) The Orioles pushed second baseman Brian Roberts (hamstring) to the 60-day disabled list, MLB.com reports Saturday.

Roberts' move creates roster space for Jair Jurrjens to be added to the 40-man roster. Jurrjens is starting Saturday against Tampa Bay.

Nolan Reimold lands on shelf
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(1:06 pm ET) The Orioles placed outfielder Nolan Reimold on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday. Reimold has a right hamstring strain, MLB.com reports.

Reimold's DL stint will be backdated to May 11, when he last appeared in a game in Minnesota. He's batting .188 with four homers and nine RBI.

Chris Dickerson will continue to see more playing time in Reimold's absence.

Orioles bring back Jake Arrieta
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(1:03 pm ET) The Orioles recalled Jake Arrieta from Triple-A Norfolk. Arrieta will presumably be used out of the bullpen, MLB.com reports.

Arrieta was optioned to the minors due to poor performance and command for the Orioles this season.

He worked on things with Norfolk and went 2-1 with a 2.75 ERA over three starts with 17 Ks over 19 2/3 innings. He only walked three batters.

Alex Burnett optioned to Norfolk
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(1:01 pm ET) The Orioles optioned reliever Alex Burnett to Triple-A Norfolk to recall Jair Jurrjens to start Saturday against the Rays, MLB.com reports.

Burnett gave up three runs on three hits and two walks over 1/3 of an inning behind Jason Hammel Friday in a 12-10 loss to the Rays. Burnett struck out one and heads to the minors with a 3.79 ERA.

Burnett will be available for the Tides Sunday in Durham.

Josh Johnson has rehab start set
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(12:58 pm ET) Blue Jays starter Josh Johnson will make his first rehab start with Class A Dunedin Monday, Sportsnet.ca reports.

The Blue Jays expect him to make two or three rehab starts before they think about putting him back in the Toronto rotation.

Yankees DFA Alberto Gonzalez
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(12:52 pm ET) The Yankees designated Alberto Gonzalez for assignment to make room on the roster for the addition of Reid Brignac, MLB.com reports.

Kelly Johnson with 17 RBI over 15-game span
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(12:47 pm ET) Rays outfielder Kelly Johnson, with four RBI, led Tampa Bay to a 12-10 win in Baltimore Friday.

Batting seventh, Johnson went 3 for 5 with his sixth home run. He went deep off Jason Hammel for a three-run blast in the third inning. He added a RBI single in the fifth and also doubled in the game as he fell just a triple shy of the cycle.

Johnson has gone 21 for 59 (.356) over his last 15 games with 10 runs scored, four doubles, three homers and 17 RBI.

Jason Kipnis provides heroics
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(12:41 pm ET) Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis is now batting .244 on the season after going 2 for 4 on Friday against the Mariners.

Kipnis hit his seventh home run in the game. He went deep for a three-run blast in the 10th inning to win the game for the Tribe.

Kipnis' heroics Friday only added to the incredible May he's having. He's raised his average from .189 to .244 during the month as he's gone 18 for 61 (.295) with five doubles, six homers and 19 RBI.

Raul Ibanez hot as can be in May
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(12:36 pm ET) Mariners outfielder Raul Ibanez still is only batting .235 on the season -- that's how cold he was in April.

The veteran slugger has been ridiculously hot in May, however, and he kept that up on Friday in Cleveland. Ibanez went 3 for 5 in the game with his seventh home run.

He went deep in the sixth inning for a two-run blast. The two RBI gives him 19 on the year.

Ibanez has gone 11 for 28 (.393) in May with a double, triple, five homers and 14 RBI.
