Jim Henderson will work on strengthening shoulder in Arizona

(7:33 pm ET) Brewers manager Ron Roenicke told reporters that reliever Jim Henderson will end his minor-league rehab assignment, but instead of being reinstated, he'll head back to the team's spring training facility in Arizona to work on strengthening his shoulder, per MLB.com.

Henderson has been sidelined since May due to a shoulder injury and remains without a timetable to return.

Jesse Chavez demoted back to the 'pen

(6:53 pm ET) A day after a blockbuster deal that sent Jon Lester to the Athletics, manager Bob Melvin has demoted pitcher Jesse Chavez back to the bullpen, according to the Bay Area News group on Friday. Chavez owns a 3.44 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 119:41 K:BB ratio in 125 2/3 innings.

Scooter Gennett sent for further tests

(6:50 pm ET) Brewers infielder Scooter Gennett was hit on the tip of his left index finger while bunting in early batting practice on Friday. He was sent for further tests to determine the extent of the injury, according to MLB.com. he is hitting .302 over 301 at-bats.

Coco Crisp receives injections to deal with neck pain

(6:46 pm ET) Athletics outfielder Coco Crisp received some treatment, which included injections to deal with his neck injury, the Bay Area News Group reports. Crisp is not available to play Friday against the Royals and is listed as day to day moving forward.

Cubs make several moves Friday

(6:16 pm ET) The Cubs announced several roster moves prior to Friday's game against the Dodgers, per MLB.com. The team added newly-acquired pitcher Felix Doubront to the actove roster and immediately placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a calf strain.

The team also recalled reliever Blake Parker and Chris Valaika from Triple-A Iowa. Valaika batted .278 with 10 homers, 21 doubles and 50 RBI at Iowa. 


Jon Jay nursing a wrist injury

(6:08 pm ET) Cardinals outfielder Jon Jay was held out of the starting lineup Friday night against Brewers because of a wrist injury, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Jay is batting .289 with one home run and 24 RBI in 253 at-bats. His status remains uncertain for Saturday against Milwaukee.

Adam Lind expected to start rehab assignment next week

(6:03 pm ET) Blue Jays designated hitter Adam Lind is expected to start a minor-league rehab assignment at some point next week, manager John Gibbons told Sportsnet.ca reports. Lind suffered a seback earlier in the week while running. He has been sidelined since July 7 because of a foot injury.

Alex Rios still wary of trade despite deadline passed

(6:00 pm ET) The trade deadline has come and gone, but Rangers left fielder Alex Rios still believes he could be dealt away in a waiver deal. Such a swap has happened to him twice already in his career.

"I'm not off the hook yet," he told the Dallas Morning News. "But as of right now, I'm content to just focus on baseball. My duty is to come out and play the game."

Rios has played the game quite well this season, but with far less power than he had exhibited in the past. He has just four home runs nearly two-thirds into the season.


Kennys Vargas gets tall order in major league debut

(5:52 pm ET) The Twins have wasted no time throwing first base prospect Kennys Vargas into the fire. He is in the lineup Friday night against White Sox stud left-hander Chris Sale a day after his promotion.

Vargas skipped the Triple-A level in getting called up. He compiled a .281/.360/.472 stat line for Double-A New Britain this season with 17 home runs.


Hector Santiago likely to rejoin rotation

(5:50 pm ET) The Angels are expected to bring pitcher Hector Santiago back into the rotation to replace the spot of injured pitcher Tyler Skaggs, the Orange County Register reports.

Santiago pitched two innings of relief in extras and picked up the win Thursday night against the Orioles. He is not available to pitch Friday and could likely be ready to make his next start Tuesday in Los Angeles against the Dodgers.
