Geovany Soto has good series vs. Detroit
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:28 am ET) Rangers catcher Geovany Soto, who has taken over as the starting catcher with A.J. Pierzynski on the disabled list, collected a season-high three hits and one double in five at-bats Sunday against the Tigers. This coming after Soto homered Thursday and Friday against the Tigers.

Soto is batting .250 (10 for 40) with two doubles, two home runs and five RBI in 11 May games. Unfortunately, Pierzynski is expected to come off the disabled list this week, which would send Soto back to a bench role.

Mitch Moreland on MVP-like run
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:21 am ET) Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland managed multiple RBI for the fourth time in 11 games Sunday against the Tigers. Moreland is batting .328 (22 for 67) with one triple, four doubles, seven home runs, 13 runs and 14 RBI in 18 May games.

Moreland has been on a roll offensively since late April. He's batting .363 with a .405 on-base percentage, .716 slugging percentage and 1.121 OPS in his last 27 games. He also has one triple, eight home runs, 10 doubles and 20 RBI in that span.

Adrian Beltre returns to form in May
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:16 am ET) Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre tallied a season-high four hits for the third time in May Sunday against the Tigers. He had two doubles and two RBI.

After batting .222 in 26 April games, Beltre is batting .382 (29 for 76) in 18 May games, raising his season average to .291. Beltre also has a .420 on-base percentage, .618 slugging percentage, 1.038 OPS, four home runs, five walks, six doubles, 14 runs and 17 RBI in May.

Everth Cabrera striking out less
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10:15 am ET) Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera is striking out less this year.

Strikeouts have been a significant issue for Cabrera over his career. His 22 percent strikeout rate has depressed his batting average the past four years, preventing him from being a viable Fantasy option in shallow leagues.

Cabrera has managed to drop his strikeout rate to 19.7 percent this season. He's hitting .257/.342/.351 in 171 at-bats. He's also added 18 steals already this year.

Stats piling up for Lance Berkman
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:09 am ET) Rangers DH Lance Berkman tied a season-high with three hits Sunday against the Tigers. It was the third time he had three hits this season.

Berkman has managed multiple hits in three straight games and five times in his last nine games. He also has two RBI in four of his last eight games. Berkman is batting .351 (13 for 37) with one triple, one home run, two doubles, five walks, five runs and 10 RBI in his last nine games.

Jhonny Peralta filling up the stat sheet in May
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:04 am ET) Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta had his second two-double game in May Sunday against the Rangers. It was also his seventh multi-hit game this month.

Peralta is batting .370 (20 for 54) in 15 May games, sending his average from .292 to .320. He also has two home runs, five doubles, six RBI, nine walks and 12 runs in May.

Contact rates driving Kelly Johnson's success
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9:57 am ET) Rays infielder Kelly Johnson has been making more contact this season.

One of Johnson's biggest issues the last two years was his declining contact rate. Johnson only made contact with about 71 percent of pitches over the last two years. He's managed to increase his rate to 79.6 percent to begin this season.

Johnson has always shown decent power and speed numbers, even during his down years. With an increased contact rate, Johnson has been able to add a strong slash line to that production. Johnson is hitting .274/.348/.492 in 124 at-bats. Fantasy owners should take note. As long as Johnson is making better contact, his resurgence should continue.

Blue Jays send Mickey Storey back to minors
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9:51 am ET) The Blue Jays optioned pitcher Mickey Storey to Triple-A Buffalo Monday to clear a roster spot for outfielder Anthony Gose, who was promoted from Buffalo. Storey posted a 7.36 ERA and 1.91 WHIP in two relief outings.

Blue Jays add Anthony Gose to roster
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(9:41 am ET) The Blue Jays recalled outfielder Anthony Gose from Triple-A Buffalo Monday and cleared a roster spot by demoting pitcher Mickey Storey to Buffalo. Gose appeared in 56 games for Toronto in 2012, batting .223 and stealing 15 bases.

Gose is having a quiet season at Buffalo, batting .227 with .343 on-base percentage through 40 games. He has only five stolen bases.

Oscar Taveras to return this week
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9:11 am ET) Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras is planning to return by midweek, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Taveras has missed time with an ankle injury, and was supposed to play some games in Triple-A this past weekend. Taveras could not make that start, and will hope to return by midweek. He has been taking batting practice and shagging fly balls.
