Wily Peralta twirls six-plus innings in win over Cardinals

(12:35 am ET) Brewers pitcher Wily Peralta put together a quality start for the win Friday night against the Cardinals in St. Louis, improving to 13-6 on the year. The right-hander permitted two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out three over 6 2/3 innings of a 7-4 victory.

Over his last four starts covering 26 1/3 innings, Peralta has allowed five earned runs. He owns a 3.52 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP over 22 starts (138 innings). He will make his next start Thursday at home against San Francisco.

Chad Qualls fans two in scoreless ninth for the save

(12:30 am ET) Astros closer Chad Qualls struck out two and worked his way around a hit in a scoreless ninth inning to close out a 3-1 win over the Blue Jays Friday. Qualls has converted 12 of 15 save attempts, with a 3.26 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP over 38 2/3 innings of relief.

Collin McHugh looks sharp in no-decision

(12:28 am ET) Astros starter Collin McHugh pitched well enough for the win, but was unable to factor into the decision Friday night against the Blue Jays. The right-hander permitted one run on five hits and one walk while striking out five over 6 1/3 innings of a 3-1 victory.

McHugh has not won a decision since June 3. He owns a 3.32 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP over 16 starts (95 innings). He will make his next start Thursday in Philadelphia.

J.A. Happ settles for no-decision in sharp outing

(12:23 am ET) Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ wasn't a factor into the decision Friday night against the Astros in Houston. The right-hander permitted one run on three hits and two walks while striking out six over seven innings of a 3-1 defeat.

Happ owns a 4.34 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP over 95 1/3 innings of work. He will look to stay sharp in his next start at home on Thursday against Baltimore.

Chris Sale fails to factor into the decision

(12:12 am ET) White Sox pitcher Chris Sale didn't factor into the decision Friday night at home against the Twins. The right-hander yielded five runs -- four earned on eight hits and one walk while striking out seven over six innings of a 10-8 defeat.

Sale allowed four-plus runs for the first time since June 7. He owns a 2.09 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP over 17 starts (116 innings). Sale will make his next start Wednesday at home against Texas.

Logan Darnell gets hit hard vs. White Sox

(12:07 am ET) Twins pitcher Logan Darnell continued to struggle on Friday against the White Sox in a no-decision. He was charged with four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out four over four innings of a 10-8 defeat.

Over his last two starts covering nine innings, Darnell has allowed 11 earned runs. He owns a 8.25 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP over three starts. If he remains in the rotation, his next start would come Thursday in Oakland.

Jeremy Hellickson gets roughed up in loss to Angels

(8/1/2014) Rays pitcher Jeremy Hellickson was roughed up Friday night at home in a loss to the Angels, dropping to 0-1 on the year. The right-hander coughed up four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four over 4 2/3 innings.

Over his firs three starts covering 13 2/3 innings, Hellickson has allowed five earned runs. He will make his next start Wednesday at Oakland.

Huston Street picks up another save Friday night

(8/1/2014) Angels closer Huston Street escaped a shaky outing for the save Friday night against the Rays in Tampa. Street allowed two hits and one walk while striking out two over a scoreless inning of work, closing out a 5-3 victory. He has converted 29 of 30 save attempts, with a 0.92 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP over 39 innings of relief. 

Matt Shoemaker wins second straight decision

(8/1/2014) Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker was not at his best but picked up the win Friday night against the Rays in Tampa, improving to 9-3 on the year. The right-hander permitted three runs -- two earned -- on eight hits and no walks while striking out one over five innings of a 5-3 win.

Shoemaker owns a 4.09 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP over 81 1/3 innings of work this season. He will look for his third straight win Wednesday at home against the Dodgers.

Ryan Hanigan not expected to return this weekend

(8/1/2014) Rays catcher Ryan Hanigan (oblique) is not expected to rejoin the team this weekend, the Tampa Bay Times reports. He will resume a minor-league rehab assignment with Class A Charlotte at the start of the week, which will run through at least until Wednesday.
