Report: D-Backs wanted Blue Jays' Norris in trade for Wade Miley
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11:08 am ET) Before the Red Sox ended up acquiring starting pitcher Wade Miley in the offseason, one other team thought the left-hander might be a good fit for the AL East, according to WEEI.com. The Blue Jays also had siginificant interest in trading for Miley, a major-league source said.

However, the Blue Jays opted not to make the deal when the Diamondbacks asked for starting pitcher Daniel Norris -- who is considered the team's top prospect by Baseball America and MLB.com -- in return.

The Diamondbacks traded Miley to the Red Sox on Dec. 12 for Rubby De La Rosa, Allen Webster and Raymel Flores. Miley is 1-3 with a 7.15 ERA in his first five starts with Boston.

White Sox RF Avisail Garcia extends hit streak to nine on Sunday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:02 am ET) White Sox right fielder Avisail Garcia extended his hitting streak to nine games in Sunday's loss to the Twins. Garcia went 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, as his season batting average now sits at a comfortable .342.

During the nine-game streak, Garcia is batting a robust .417 with a double and three RBI. Unfortunately for the Sox, they are getting little-to-no contribution from anyone else, as the team has lost five in a row following Sunday's blowout defeat.

Padres' Joaquin Benoit pitches scoreless inning in return
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(10:57 am ET) After not appearing in a game since last Monday, Padres reliever Joaquin Benoit returned and threw a scoreless inning in Sunday's win over the Rockies.

Benoit had been dealing with a dead arm, but he did not surrender a hit or walk in his first appearance since sustaining the arm issue. He is now 3-1 with a 3.75 ERA.

Royals DH Kendrys Morales has 10 RBI in last six games
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:56 am ET) Royals DH Kendrys Morales had an RBI single during Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Tigers. He also had one walk and one run.

Morales has at least one RBI in five of his last six games. He has 10 total in that span.

The 31-year-old Morales has a hit in 22 of 25 games. He has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games. He is batting .293 with one home run, three doubles and 12 RBI in that span.

Rangers SS Andrus continues offensive, defensive woes Sunday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:47 am ET) Like much of the Rangers offense, the struggles for shortstop Elvis Andrus continued in Sunday's 7-1 loss to the A's. Despite drawing a couple of walks on the afternoon, Andrus went hitless and has seen his season batting average drop to .224.

Andrus' defense is suffering just as much as his offense is, as he committed his seventh error of the season on Sunday, which is the second-most in the American League. He has been at shortstop for every inning of every game for the Rangers so far. One might wonder if manager Jeff Bannister would consider giving the former two-time All-Star a rest in the coming days.

Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal hopes he's over recent slump
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(10:33 am ET) After hitting a walk-off home run to defeat the Diamondbacks on Sunday, Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal said he hopes recent changes to his approach are starting to pay off, reports the Los Angeles Times.

"I've been trying to be more aggressively lately," he said.

Along with a shoulder issue, Grandal said his approach at the plate also led to his batting average dropping to .179 before raising it to .230.

"You have to look behind and who's hitting behind you," he said. "If you just get on first and you let the guy do his job, we're going to be good."

Indians 1B Carlos Santana goes 2 for 2, walks three times Sunday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:28 am ET) Indians first baseman Carlos Santana enjoyed a productive day at the plate during Sunday's victory over the Blue Jays. Santana, who has played every inning of every game for the Tribe in 2015, reached base in all five plate appearances Sunday. He went 2 for 2 with and RBI, a run scored and three walks.

Santana is hitting .265 (9 for 34) with five RBI over his last 10 games. He's also drawn 14 walks with just three strikeouts over that strech. He currently leads the American League with 22 base-on-balls.

Blue Jays OF Kevin Pillar batting .314 in last 13 games
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:27 am ET) Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar saw his hitting streak end at six games Sunday against the Indians following a 0-for-4 performance. He did get on base after getting hit by a pitch in the fourth inning and finished with one run.

Since April 21, Pillar is batting .314 (16 for 51) with one triple, six doubles, seven runs and 10 RBI. He also has two walks, eight strikeouts and three stolen bases in his last 13 games.

Indians OF Michael Brantley batting .381 since return from injury
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:15 am ET) Indians outfielder Michael Brantley had a two-RBI single and double during a 10-7 win Sunday vs. Toronto. He also had two runs and two walks.

Brantley has hit safely in four straight games and has at least one RBI in four straight games as well.

Since returning from a back injury April 17 -- which kept him out six of seven games from April 8-15 -- Brantley is batting .381 (24 for 63) with one home run, seven doubles, nine runs, 11 RBI, seven walks and three stolen bases in 16 games.

Royals 3B Mike Moustakas struggles in series against Tigers
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(9:59 am ET) Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas has had a terrific start to the 2015 season. But, he did struggle in the recent three-game series against the Tigers.

"Moose" had just one hit in 12 at-bats, none for extra bases. He neither scored nor drove in a run for the Royals, as they lost two of the three games against their division rivals. On a positive note, Moustakas struck out only once in the series.

Despite the rough three games, Moustakas is still sporting a nifty .349/.378/.419 slash line over his last 10 games as he continues to rebound from a disappointing 2014 campaign.
