Riefenhauser has performed well in 7 2/3 innings in the minors. It's the first time he's been in the majors, so his first appearance will be his major-league debut. 


Travis Ishikawa designated by Pirates

The 30-year-old Ishikawa has slumped after a strong start. He has just three hits in his last 17 at-bats.


Eric O'Flaherty tosses another bullpen session Saturday

(3:43 pm ET) Athletics reliever Eric O'Flaherty tossed a bullpen sesssion Saturday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle

Flaherty is nearing a return, and could face live hitters once the team finishes their next road trip. Once the current homestand ends, the A's will be on the road until May 5.


Ike Davis in lineup and batting sixth for Pirates

(3:35 pm ET) The Pirates have wasted no time getting newly acquired first baseman Ike Davis into their lineup. He is set to bat sixth Saturday night against the visiting Brewers.

Davis has arrived in a huge slump in which he has just one hit in his last 16 at-bats.


Rafael Soriano fine after Friday scare

(3:14 pm ET) Nationals closer Rafael Soriano took a ground ball off his leg during Friday's appearance against the Cardinals, but told MLB.com he did not suffer an injury as a result. He was able to stay in the game, and is expected to be available moving forward. 

Jeff Baker in, Garrett Jones out of Saturday lineup

(3:13 pm ET) The presence of left-hander Reonis Elias on the mound for the Mariners has kept Marlins first baseman Garrett Jones off the lineup card Saturday.

Jones has received a decent shot to prove he can hit southpaws this season. He is 4 for 19 against them, but will sit against Elias in favor of Jeff Baker, who owns a .103 batting average this season.


Bryce Harper removed from Saturday game in seventh

(3:05 pm ET) Nationals left fielder Bryce Harper was removed from the game before the top of the seventh Saturday against St. Louis and replaced by Kevin Frandsen.

Harper has been dealing with tightness in his quad, but there has been no announcement as to why he left the game. He made an awkward running catch in the sixth before grounding out to the pitcher in the bottom of the inning.


Pirates activate Chris Stewart, demote Tony Sanchez

(2:19 pm ET) The Pirates have activated Chris Stewart off the disabled list and optioned fellow catcher Tony Sanchez back to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Stewart has missed the entire regular season after undergoing knee surgery in March.


Athletics still being careful with Coco Crisp

The club is still trying to take it easy with Crisp when he has to hit right-handed. He's dealing with a hamstring injury, but is available off the bench for Saturday's game. 


Jake Arrieta awaits what he hopes is last rehab start

(12:58 pm ET) Right-hander Jake Arrieta is slated for another rehab start Monday for Class-A Daytona, which he hopes will be his final tuneup before joining the Cubs.

Arrieta made three rehab starts with Double-A Tennessee, but the team has "demoted" him so he can pitch in warmer weather. He is planning on throwing about 100 pitches in his upcoming outing.
